Where does link authority get passed to a stand alone landing page
-
Hi All,
We are currently building a landing page that contains a bunch of funny top 10's, some that aren’t suitable for all customers, it can only be accessed from a PR source or recipient of one of our emails.
The question I have is; where will the authority gained from people linking to this page go? Would it be passed to the home page, if there’s a link to it? Or would you recommend a way to control it?
Any insight welcome.
Cheers
Neal

Hi Neal
All going well thank you, busy times as always!
Yep, that's right, to avoid having a page (from a search engine's perspective) that is for search and not for all users (a hidden page), place a NoIndex on the page, or link to it from another 'normal' page so that it can be navigated to.
The tag for a NoIndex would be: so answering your other question, with that Follow attribute the links to other pages within your site would be followed and any page authority shared, even though the page is tagged as NoIndex.
All the best,
Simon

Hi Simon, thanks for your reply. I hope things at Towergate are well, i know the company well.
To make sure that I have your comments correct, you suggest having an internal page, in our site, link to it or mark it as no index? Otherwise we risk crawlers seeing this as a link building exercise, which is potentially damaging?
Classing the page as no index and adding links to relevant page - does that still pass on any authority you may be getting from external links?
Thanks again

That's a good answer from Yannick. I have another perspective for you to consider also: (always good to have options)
I'd like to add that if this landing page does not have any internal links pointing to it from other pages within your website, you'll effectively be saying that this page is not important, as it's rather hidden away.
That's a big enough factor to push the strength of that page down, even with some good inbound links to it, so may not much matter about linking to other pages from it to pass-on some of that page strength.
In my view, it's best to have this page as a NoIndex page as it's clearly not there for all users. You'll otherwise risk this page being classed as a doorway page purely there for link building and not for users, could risk a penalty in the worst case scenario. You could still link out to other Relevant pages from it then.
Regards
Simon

I would suggest linking to a page that is relevant to the landing page you are creating. Your home page is usually receiving more than enough links from various sources. The underlying pages are often the problem. So try linking to a page that is relevant to the top 10 you created and is in a competitive space.

Irrelevant Landing Pages are Ranking on Google SERP
Hi, I have noticed that Google likes to rank random pages on my site higher in the SERPs than the actual relevant content page for that service. Please let me know why it is happening?

980 links from 75 domains and Graded "A" on Moz Page Grader-- still not ranking for our term. Thoughts?
A few additional interesting details: A blog post we wrote with the same keyword ranks 8, but this page does not crack the top 20. Crazy competitive term-- top SERP are from HBR, Entrepreneur and Inc. We use Instapage as landing page builder-- could this effect our rankings? URL is not a subdomain Pretty stumped over here. Thanks y'all!

Will Using Attributes For Landing Pages In Magento Dilute Page Rank?
Hello Mozzers! We have an ecommerce site built on Magento. We would like to use attribute filters in our layered navigation for landing page purposes. Each page will have a unique URL, Meta Title and Meta Description. For example: URL: domain.com/art/abstract (category is Art, attribute is Abstract) Title: Abstract Art For Sale Meta: Blah Blah Blah Currently these attribute pages are not being indexed by google as they are set in google parameters. We would like to edit google parameters to start indexing some of the attribute filters that users search for, so they can be used as landing pages. Does anyone have experience with this? Is this a good idea? What are the consequences? Will this dilute Page Rank? Could this destroy the world? Cheers! MozAddict

Number of Links for Internal E-commerce Search Pages (and Anchor Text)
Hello! We have an internal search engine for different email, postal, and phone data products on our website (75,000 product pages... calling all direct marketers!), I've noindexed all our dynamic search pages, but I'm wondering how else I can improve these pages. Should I reduce the amount of links on each page?

Currently there are 20 search results per page. " <variable>Mailing List" has been a pretty good source of traffic for our product pages.
Should I change the anchor text for all the product pages listed to include the added long-tail keyword, or would that be extremely spammy, having the word "Mailing List" 20+ times on my page? We have both static and dynamic search pages - here is one of static ones: http://www.consumerbase.com/direct-marketing-mailing-lists.html
My main problem with adding the long tail KWs to the anchor text is that we still want our static search pages indexed.</variable> Thanks!0 -
I get warnings for overly dynamic urls, but have canonical links in place.
Hi, Seomoz gives me warnings for overly dynamic urls. This is mostly caused by a crumbtrail system. I have a canonical link in the header for all the urls I receive warnings on, should I still worry about this? Thanks!

100 + links on a scrolling page
Can you add more than 100 links on your webpage If you have a webpage that adds more content from a database as a visitor scrolls down the page. If you look at the page source the 100 + links do not show up, only the first 20 links. As you scroll down it adds more content and links to the bottom of the page so its a continuos flowing page if you keep scrolling down. Just wanted to know how the 100 links maximum fits into this scenario ?

Whats the point of a landing page?
I thought it is best to use your current site and build a new page targeting 2-3 key phrases max. Lets say I have a current site that is ranking for a few keywords, why would I build a landing page when I can just add a page to my site and target those same exact keywords?
