Serps rank different from each login location
-
I prepared a report yesterday morning and I had a variety of keywords ranking at #5. Today when checked from another location they are all over the place.
kitchen mats has been 11-15 for months, and then when checking from a school computer that starts a new session upon each login
Yesterday it was #5 as was anti fatigue mats - it has been 27-32.
Is google pulling in local hits and shifting the serp rankings?
the site is www.wellnessmats.com
any there suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I know we have had duplicate content issues, and now reading some of the posts - perhaps "key word cannibalization"?
thanks

do you mean clearing the cache and history, each and every time you check?
obviously, i love the seomoz toolkit, but with numbers run only wed - they are usually not even close.
i did have some friends check it, and it closer the to numbers i had yesterday (on the front page - which of course is every clients battle cry - they don't want to hear about conversions).
thanks -

I like that approach!

Pretty accurate response by Ressler. I use SEOmoz PRO Campaign Rank check, SEOBook's Rank Checker, and Market Samurai's rank checker. I then load the data into 3 sheets on a Spreadsheet and get the averages dynamically calculated onto a 4th spreadsheet so the client can see an estimated position ranking from 3 data sources.

I check my rankings three different ways.
- Dedicated browser that I only use to search. I reset all the data every time I use it, and I never click on anything. If things seem out of sort I will reinstall it.
- SEOmoz. I use their ranking checker in the Pro tools
- SEOBooks Rank Checker.
By using three different options I'm able to see exactly where I'm linking. In the off chance that I still think its off I will ask a couple of friends to search it.
That being said, location does have an affect on rankings. Google wants to find the most relevant item for you, and location can be a determining point if everything else is equal.

Domain Change, Lost ranking on 1 keyword
Hey guys, Long time follower of the Q&A forum, but don't post too often. I'm having an issue I never came across. We changed a domain from mpbuilderscincy.com to mpcincinnati.com. We did the 301 redirect and all the SEO flowed through pretty well. Most pages didn't even change in file structure so we didn't need to do page redirects for the most part. Anyway, long story short, we are seeing the same rankings as we had before now (it's been about 2 months) except for 1 and only 1 keyword. It's "Home Remodeling Cincinnati". We dropped from page 2, to page 11 on Google and it won't budge. Now on Yahoo and Bing, we are right back where we were before already with that keyword. But Google just refuses to bump us back to where we were before the change. The Home Remodeling page: http://www.mpcincinnati.com/Residential-Services/Home-Remodeling.aspx has an on page grade of A for that keyword and we have it as one of our main keywords on the home page of the site (title, h1, alt tags, etc). No errors on the page. I mean it looks pretty clean for this page as far as SEO except for 1 notice that mentions the 301 canonical redirect. We uploaded the new sitemap right away. I just can't put a thumb on it and wondering if you guys had any tips. Thanks, Chris

Should my Google rank be different to actual SERP results?
In my reports this week I was delighted to see "emergency power" at #8 for http://apexgenerators.co.uk/emergency-power/ but then today seems to have jumped to page 4 in SERPS? Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks, Laura

My Houzz Photo is Beating My Website in the SERPS
We were #3 for a keyword and now we are #4, oddly now Houzz.com is #2 and #3. The #3 slot is our photo on Houzz I optimized for our keyword. Should I dump the photo on Houzz? Since it is beating me on that keyword? The #2 slot is query for my keywords but we don't appear on that page. Thoughts?:) Thanks.

How reliable is GWT's keyword data & what is the most accurate way of determining keywords you currently rank for?
I have been monitoring the query data (keywords, average position, CTR, etc.) in GWT, but sometimes the ranking data seems off. I filter the dates for the past week, so it is the most recent. I manually check some of the rankings and they are way off. Does anyone have feedback on this? If you have access to multiple domain data, that would be great. What is the most accurate way of determining keywords you currently rank for? I have also used keywordspy, and that is off too!

What is the relationship/difference between categories and keywords in terms of google local seo?
I know that they are very similar as search signals, but I would like to understand the exact relationship. My company is in the process of adding local seo services to our seo offerings, and we are trying to hammer out a process for determining optimal categories for businesses based on keywords we are already using for optimizing their sites. Any insights or suggestions on how best to do this would be much appreciated.
