E-commerce Optimization
-
If you're optimizing an e-commerce site where you sell a certain brand of product, can you re-use the product descriptions from that brand's store?
For example, if I'm selling Nike's, can I use the product descriptions and info from the Nike product pages? (This is not what I'm selling). Or should you write your own descriptions. I understand that original content is best, but in an online store situation, how do you write up a product description that's different from the original? It is what it is, right?

I would take the desription and rewrite it as muchg as you can. Maybe in the beginning just past it so there is already som thing there but over time rewrite and place keywords choosen by you in it.

Do not just copy the content. It is okay to copy the manufacture's specifications for the products. I have done this many times in the past and never had an issue. But if you are copying all the content, it will look like spam.

Optimization expert suggesting we add Canonical tag to every page on site
Hi guys, We're currently launching a new page, and we have an optimization and technical SEO expert (highly rated on Upwork, very intelligent, has solved complicated issues in the past and improved our Core Web Vitals greatly) suggesting we put canonical tags on every page of site, pointing to itself (other than the case of where canonicals should point to other page, we have those listed separately. Do you guys see a benefit to this? Could it harm us? He says large retailers do this, couldn't quite glean the benefit from it though. Current site ranks well and isn't set up like this. Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Is there value in optimizing stock images on site?
We have a whole bunch of websites that all use stock imagery. Some of the images have alt tags on them but some of them do not. To add alt tags to all of them would be a pretty lengthy process. So, would there actually be any value in adding these tags to stock images across the board?

"Search Box Optimization"
A client of ours recently received en email from a random SEO "company" claiming they could increase website traffic using a technique known as "search box optimization". Essentially, they are claiming they can insert a company name into the autocomplete results on Google. Clearly, this isn't a legitimate service - however, is it a well known technique? Despite our recommendation to not move forward with it, the client is still very intrigued. Here is a video of a similar service:

Staging & Development areas should be not indexable (i.e. no followed/no index in meta robots etc)
Hi I take it if theres a staging or development area on a subdomain for a site, who's content is hence usually duplicate then this should not be indexable i.e. (no-indexed & nofollowed in metarobots) ? In order to prevent dupe content probs as well as non project related people seeing work in progress or finding accidentally in search engine listings ? Also if theres no such info in meta robots is there any other way it may have been made non-indexable, or at least dupe content prob removed by canonicalising the page to the equivalent page on the live site ? In the case in question i am finding it listed in serps when i search for the staging/dev area url, so i presume this needs urgent attention ? Cheers Dan

Canonicalization Issue | E-commerce
Hey everyone! How are you doing? I spent this week trying to solve some technical issues on my website. However i am having trouble with Duplicate Content. I came to the conclusion that canonicalization is a great solution to this problem, however, i am having trouble implementing it. The duplicate problem arises from the fact that for each product i have several colors or different attributes. For example. I have the category "Construction Clips" and then links to "Color" in which the user can choose White or Sandstone. The content is almost identical for both of them, the only thing that changes is the color. This scenarios repeats many times throughout my webcommerce site. And is throwing me off many Duplicate Content errors. I cannot use the canonicalization in the White or Sandstone page, because is a product page, it doesnt let me add or change anything on the header. http://aceromart.com/Clip-Glamet-Blanco.aspx I dont intend to rank well on most product pages, my priority is that i dont want duplicate errors on my website. What is the best solution for this conundrum? Regards!!! In advance, i thank you for your opinions!

I haven't done any black hat linking or anything and my site had disappeared passed page 76 on Google United States... Did I over optimize things? I get an A for the onpage reports from SEOMOZ. site: www.yakangler.com Keyword: Kayak Fishing
