Capitalisation of campaign keywords - why does this affect traffic but not rankings?
-
Having accidentaly entered keywords into my campaign with both upper-case initial letters ("Product Design") and lower-case initial letters ("product design") I find that the rankings are, as expected, identical.
However, the traffic generated by the keywords is markedly different.
Does this mean that the two versions of the keyword should be treated like totally seperate keywords in future?
Indeed, should I be entering all variants of capitalisation into future keyword campaigns (such as "product Design" and "Product design") if I wish to get the full picture in future?
Any answers would be welcome.

Sorry for the very late response, but wanted to let you know that I took a look into this and it appears that there is a bug in the ranking overview which makes it so we only shows the visit data for the first of two duplicates (differing only by capitalization) that is added. The first will show the number of visits and the second will display a value of "pending".
As for the data itself, if you go to the ranking history for the 2 keywords, it should show the same historical visit data (and has in our tests), so this is consistent with how we should be displaying this.
There is certainly no need to be tracking different capitalizations separately, as our GA data collection is not case sensitive.
If you are still seeing something odd aside from the pending on the overview, please let me know.
Thanks for catching this and bringing it to our attention!

Hi Alan, saw this question in the queue and realized it was never answered. Are you still having difficulty? I can try pinging one of the engineers again.

Hi Alan, it's an odd response. The traffic numbers are pulled from Google Analytics. My belief was that GA is capitalization agnostic - meaning it doesn't matter if the keyword is capitalized or not. Let's see if we can get an SEOmoz engineer to weigh in.

Hey David,
sorry but I don't understand - where are you seeing the difference in traffic. Its been one of those days. I'll catch on in sec!
cheers

Search traffic steady, Landing pages receiving traffic had massive drop
Following the week of Google's major algorithm update in January, we saw this graph in our Moz dashboard. (green bars are # of landing pages receiving traffic from search, blue line is traffic from search) Traffic from SEO grew slightly, but number of landing pages receiving traffic fell by more than 50%. We didn't make any changes to sitemap, rel=canonical, number of pages being published, etc. Traffic from top keywords held consistent. Number of pages/images google crawled and indexed grew per webmaster tools. Big spike in Nov/Dec is because we are in retail, seasonal not technical issues. Is anyone else experience the same thing? An algo change? Or something more specific to our site? Quality traffic is what we care about, so number of pages traffic is going to could be a positive thing (easier to optimize). But jury is out. Duplicated content generated by keywords
Hello! I am kind of new to SEO and MOZ, so I really need your help to understand why some of my keywords generate duplicated content. Meaning, in my blog posts I use various SEO keywords. It shows up that in my MOZ crawl analysis, I have these keywords listed as duplicates: so two/three different keywords are pointing to the same articles and are considered duplicates? I really don't understand how it is possible. Did it also happen to you? I highly appreciate it. Thank you

Is there something wrong with the software? It says the next rankings update is April 7th. When was the last rank update?

Rankings Feature Changes
Hi guys, Is there a way that the Rankings tool within the campaigns could show a monthly comparison rather than weekly? Possibly a drop down just to choose weekly or monthly. At the moment, when someone outside of the team involved looks at the results, it looks as though the website is in a downward sprial, where as we could be lower than ever, just with one bad week. Thanks for your help! 🙂

"Rank Tracker Tool" is not agreeing with "Keyword Difficulty Tool"
I usually don't sweat a lot for ranks and such but last couple of days, our rankings have been moving drastically. 'Rank Tracker' shows 1st position for many keywords and the "keyword difficulty tool" shows 2nd and 3rd positions. Is is just me or this is a common thing?
