Ping Services for Wordpress
-
I have been trying to research adding ping services to the default list in wordpress, which only includes http://rpc.pingomatic.com/
A lot of the articles that I have come across seem to be quite old, can anyone tell me if this is still relevant and if so, which services do you find to be worthwhile using?
Thanks

Yes, thank you.
I have the Yoast plugin installed but must have missed the option when settings up.

I currently use the All In One SEO Pack plugin for Wordpress. It has a setting to automatically ping the search engines of your choice when you write a new article or add new pages.
Yoast SEO plugin is also a good one that has the same capabilities.

Changing title tag in wordpress media pages
Hello! I have a problem of duplicate title on 59 pages in Worpress. I Guess it happened after a recent WP update, because, suddenly, I got a peak of 59 from zero in a day. The SeoMoz crawl report states that there are 59 duplicate title. As you may see in the picture those are all media pages, whose title is written really badly with the formula postname/filename/blogTitle, ending up with trunkated, too long, title tags, that result in duplicate page title. How can I simply hide these mediapages or sculpting the title tag the way I want? I am using all-in-one-seo WP plugin, which doesn't seem to provide a solution. Thank you all! Wordpress New Category URL's
Were just about to redesign our site and put all the blogs over to the new site. Previously most blogs have been added to the uncategorised section of the blog and I'm now weighing up the benefit of sifting through all the blogs and changing them to relevant categories. From an SEO perspective would it be better to Leave them in their current category but start afresh with all new blogs by adding them to relevant categories? Work out which blogs should go in which new category and 301 all previous URL's to the new one. Obviously number one will take a lot more time than number two.

Should I allow index of category / tag pages on Wordpress?
Quite simply, is it best to allow index of category / tag pages on a Wordpress blog or no index them? My thought is Google will / might see it as duplicate content? Thanks, K

Syndicated posts extracts on wordpress and impact on SERPS
On our main site (http://www.deeperblue.com) we've been syndicating posts (not the full posts just link and short extract) from a trusted partner of ours. These posts are listed as Diverwire Staff and point directly back to the original website. What i'm concerned about is the impact on SERPS - we don't want to be penalised by any of the search engines.

Generating a Sitemap for websites linked to a wordpress blog
Greetings, I'm looking for a way to generate a sitemap that will include static pages on my home directory, as well as my wordpress blog. The site that I'm trying to build this for is in a temporary folder, and can be accessed at http://www.lifewaves.com/Website 3.0 I plan on moving the contents of this folder to the root directory for lifewaves.com whenever we are go for launch. What I'm wondering is, is there a way to build a sitemap or sitemap index that will point to the static pages of my site, as well as the wordpress blog while taking advantage of the built in wordpress hierarchy? If so, what's an easy way to do this. I have generated a sitemap using Yoast, but I can't seem to find any xml files within the wordpress folder. Within the plugin is a button that I can click to access the sitemap index, but it just brings me to the homepage of my blog. Can I build a sitemap index that points to a sitemap for the static pages as well as the sitemap generated by yoast? Thank you in advance for your help!! P.S. I'm kind of a noob.

Paginated Home Page Duplicates on Wordpress Sites
A number of my websites created on WP are displaying duplicate home pages with these types of urls. http://www.example.com/page/10/ http://www.example.com/page/11/ http://www.example.com/page/12/ I found these duplicates using the site:search command. Basically, put in any number and the Home Page opens. With the above mentioned url structure. Any idea on why they are created, how they can be stopped and what kind of an impact they would have in terms of SEO and the penalty that comes with duplicate content.

Will using http ping, lastmod increase our indexation with Google?
If Google knows about our sitemaps and they’re being crawled on a daily basis, why should we use the http ping and /or list the index files in our robots.txt? Is there a benefit (i.e. improving indexability) to using both ping and listing index files in robots? Is there any benefit to listing the index sitemaps in robots if we’re pinging? If we provide a decent <lastmod>date is there going to be any difference in indexing rates between ping and the normal crawl that they do today?</lastmod> Do we need to all to cover our bases? thanks Marika
