Completely lost in linking.

Hi Guys,
Really new to SEO, but i'd like to think learning quickly. The question:
I really want to build up the linking profile for our website but I don't really know how to go about it. We have many good relationships within the industry and i'm sure I could obtain some reciprocal links. The things is - where do I display the links on our website? I could create a 'hidden' page for purely links, but is this a bad practice and frowned upon?
Also is this the best way to obtain good, authoritative links? I am assuming that linking to people with a root authority of 30/40+ would be beneficial. Or am I just plain wrong/out of my depth?!
Honestly any help at all would be so appreciated.

There has been a long-time recommendation of 100 links or less.
I honestly don't pay any attention to the number of links on a page. Most of my sites have way more then 100 links on a page. And, I have some pages that are resource lists - for example, linking out to employers in a certain category. I have pages like that with hundreds of links per page and they rank #1 in google with better than moderate competition.

Thank you for the reply EGOL. As I should have guessed, you need to be a bit more creative than 'give me a link'. I appreciate the ideas you have put forwards and luckily they are ones I will be able to implement, kicking myself a bit that I didn't think of them myself.
Just one point, are there a maximum number of links you can have on a page before Google start frowning?

Some ideas...
-
if you have a blog you could write a post about one of their products, maybe they would like to write the post... then you write a post for them and they feature you as one of their customers/retailers
-
if you have a category page featuring their products and they have a great demo page you could place a link on their category page.... they could link to you on their page saying "buy it here"
-
you could make a page that lists all of the important brands that you carry
-
on my site I have links to "service providers" on an "about us" page... I thank some service providers on that page... maybe they would do that for you
Before you go out asking them for links, examine their site to see if they link out already. You might be able to get a link on their "dealers" or "support" page just for asking - especially if you are one of their better customers.
If they have a blog you could offer to write a post on a topic that would please them.
If you have demo material on .pdf documents, xls, ppt, etc give them the .pdfs and say "post them on your site"... then each .pdf has a link to your site nicely placed as an attribution. Those documents are not web pages but they accumulate PR and pass link value.

Link from a directory
Hi, im submitting a clients website to some directories. They are a dental practice and I'm adding them to this website http://goo.gl/Tvyabd Once i added the business to its directory it asked me to add a link (in so many words) back to its website from my clients website. Is this ok to do or is it seen as spam? Im confused about this as sometimes directories are free and sometimes they ask for a fee for it to be fast tracked to put it on the website. I always check the Domain authority of the websites and make sure they are relevant to the industry that I'm working in but again not sure if this would be seen as "paying" for links. Thanks Ade

Link removal
We were hit by penguin and have been going through the process of removing bad links. Things were looking up but then wasa 20% jump in our bad links. They all seem to be related. There are over 100 different domains that all seem to go back to mbiz. examples include http://www.5stone.com.cn/Literature-holders-.html http://www.building-stone.com/Display-furniture.html http://www.china-tombstone.com/Display-exhibition-products-.html It looks like they have automatically gathered data from google to create these pages. I would hope that the guys at Google are clever enough to be aware of these sorts of links. But if not I need to get them removed. I have tried whois but I cant find out how to contact these guys. Has anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks

Links or Redirect?
My client's company has just acquired another company in the same industry and with that acquisition came two websites; companyname.com and companyname.co.uk. companyname.com has PA13 and DA10, companyname.co.uk has PA15 and DA10. At the moment, the two companies are to be run as separate companies but will become fully merged in time. My client's own website is brand new (PA1 and DA) and I'm wondering what is the best way to use these other two sites to improve my client's search ranking. Should I use the two sites to link to my client (these would be logical and natural links e.g. explaining the acquisition, under new management) or would it simply be better to redirect the domains to the new site? Many thanks

Link Building with Bloggers

We are a consumer products, we've had lots of bloggers approach us wanting to do the above link building with us, if they fit the profile, high quality site, relevant to our business, does that mean I can do as many per month as we'd like to?

Discovering all outgoing links.
I'm sure there is an easy to do this with Open Site Explorer but I haven't found it yet. I'd like to find every link leaving our domain and going to another. But I can't find a way to generate a list of all OUTGOING links, only incoming. Any tips?

Asking a repoter for a link.
A customer of mine had a new channel come to their place of business today in regards to valentines day (they are florists). They shot a video and wrote an article. Only problem is they only mentioned the business name and no link to the website. Has anyone had experience with reaching out to reporters and asking for a link in this type of a situation. Is a telephone call or email better?

Feedback on linking strategy
The amount of requests I get for links is mind numbing. Yet few respond to my request for blog submissions. What is going on?? People want links yet they dont want to write - its not that hard! Rather than ignore all these requests for links i have decided to write the articles for anyone who now requests a link on my website (providing I like the site and its related to my niche area). I charge £9.99 to cover my admin (It will need to go up). I do not want any links back I just want inspiration to write and unique content for my website. So these are my questions to link builders - what do you think? Would you be interested now all the hard work has gone? SEO experts - is this risking my overall site strength?
