Advice on importing content please to keep page fresh
-
Hi i am working on a site at the moment http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com which is a travel news and holiday news site but i am trying to find out what is best reference content for the following section http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com/humberside-airport
What i am thinking of doing to keep google keep coming to my section of the site is to import content, what i mean is, to use google for keywords such as humerside airport and have the stories appear on this page as well as writing my own content. I was thinking of importing content because it would help keep the page fresh without my original content become too old but i am concerned about this and not sure if it is the right thing to do.
i am concerned if i do this if my rankings would reduce because i am importing content and for people to read the rest of the story they will have to leave my site. i am also worried that google will reduct points for duplicate content.
can anyone let me know what i should do, if i should just stick to original content and not import it or to import it and if i should import it using google news how would i do this.
many thanks

Totally agree!!! Well said!
Especially with the move to the "social web" it is more important than ever before to create reasons to visit a website. Create something truly useful and unique that makes people want to come and tell there friends about it. Saying that this is hard these days but still do-able.
Ask yourself: Why should people visit my site? What's in it for them? Why am I different?

as always kerri you have a good answer for my problems. i was also looking at these blod streams, sorry cannot think of the proper name at the moment, but where you can join a site and display some of their content but then they jump to another site and that is your traffic lost.
i will stick with original content

I'd step back and think "what would you do for your users if the search engines didn't exist". Don't make your sites quite so reliant on the search engines. Make them sites that people want to go to and return to even if the search engines didn't exist.
Stick with writing your own content and not duplicating across sites. I'd also really worry about importing content using Google News, as much of the news you find there is likely to be copyrighted.
What about conducting interviews with the workers at that airport and finding out what the best place to eat is? Where is the shortest security line? What is the secret to easy parking? When is the best time of day to catch a flight? There's a lot of things you could do to make that section have content that nobody else has.

I think it's better write original content, always is the better way.
The conten to import is public? is it in another web? you can't obtain ranks for all these duplicate content.

Create Longer Content or Separate Pages
Good Afternoon We've been helping out on a site which for instance offers Hotel Breaks in Birmingham. There is a page on the site birmingham-hotel-breaks and the most popular package that people book is actually Hotel Breaks with a Transfer package. The Birmingham Hotel page focuses mainly on the Hotel and Transfer packages but it's been suggested that we build out a separate page birmingham-hotel-and-transfer to be more keyword targeted and change the original page to focus solely on the Hotel side. I wasn't sure whether it would be better to build out the content on the existing page as people are already linking to us for the packages

Translating Page Titles & Page Descriptions
I am working on a site that will be published in the original English, with localized versions in French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese. All the versions will use the English information architecture. As part of the process, we will be translating the page the titles and page descriptions. Translation quality will be outstanding. The client is a translation company. Each version will get at least four pairs of eyes including expert translators, editors, QA experts and proofreaders. My question is what special SEO instructions should be issued to translators re: the page titles and page descriptions. (We have to presume the translators know nothing about SEO.) I was thinking of: stick to the character counts for titles and descriptions make sure the title and description work together avoid over repetition of keywords page titles (over-optimization peril) think of the descriptions as marketing copy try to repeat some title phrases in the description (to get the bolding and promote click though) That's the micro stuff. The macro stuff: We haven't done extensive keyword research for the other languages. Most of the clients are in the US. The other language versions are more a demo of translation ability than looking for clients elsewhere. Are we missing something big here?

Duplicate Content on SEO Pages
I'm trying to create a bunch of content pages, and I want to know if the shortcut I took is going to penalize me for duplicate content. Some background: we are an airport ground transportation search engine(www.mozio.com), and we constructed several airport transportation pages with the providers in a particular area listed. However, the problem is, sometimes in a certain region multiple of the same providers serve the same places. For instance, NYAS serves both JFK and LGA, and obviously SuperShuttle serves ~200 airports. So this means for every airport's page, they have the super shuttle box. All the provider info is stored in a database with tags for the airports they serve, and then we dynamically create the page. A good example follows: http://www.mozio.com/lga_airport_transportation/ http://www.mozio.com/jfk_airport_transportation/ http://www.mozio.com/ewr_airport_transportation/ All 3 of those pages have a lot in common. Now, I'm not sure, but they started out working decently, but as I added more and more pages the efficacy of them went down on the whole. Is what I've done qualify as "duplicate content", and would I be better off getting rid of some of the pages or somehow consolidating the info into a master page? Thanks!

Two different page authority ranks for the same page
I happened to notice that trophycentral.com and www.trophycentral.com have two different page ranks even though there is a 301 redirect. Should I be concerned? http://trophycentral.com Page Authority: 47 Domain Authority: 42 http://www.trophycentral.com Page Authority: 51 Domain Authority: 42 Thanks!

Similar Content vs Duplicate Content
We have articles written for how to setup pop3 and imap. The topics are technically different but the settings within those are very similar and thus the inital content was similar. SEOMoz reports these pages as duplicate content. It's not optimal for our users to have them merged into one page. What is the best way to handle similar content, while not getting tagged for duplicate content?

A lot of product pages with very similar content
I'm working with someone who's setting up an online jewelry store. The jewelry is available in many metal types, so we're creating filters to provide a good user experience in trying to narrow down their choice. Let's take an example of a wedding ring that's available these options: 10kt yellow gold
Technical SEO | | Leighm
10kt white gold
18kt yellow gold
18kt white gold
Palladium
Platinum These are all entered as separate products, so that they can be used in the filtering system. However, apart from some minor changes to the title and description most of the content will be identical, across these 6 product pages. Also, many wedding ring styles are going to be very similar, so we're going to have very similar descriptions for a lot of the rings. We're concerned about problems this might cause with the search engines in terms of duplicate content. There's 2 issues that I an see (there may be more!): They will not index many of the pages and we'll leak link juice to those pages that will never get indexed They do index all the variations, but the content is so similar, that we have different pages competing for essentially the same keywords Also, these products are likely to come and go, so investing heavily on creating really unique content for them isn't really sustainable, affordable. Any advise? Thanks,0
