Seo is dead?
-
Hi there,
I see a lot of conversations about the term "seo is dead" because some people speak that seo are dead because of google plus and facebook. Is it true? What do you think? What do you think that is the future of our business? We will stay uneployed or we still continue to work? Me personally I hate facebook. Is just so much stupid (like most of people, I guess thats why is so popular) but what about google plus? Is a serious and worthy social profile. This will kill us? I read in SEL or SEW ,I dont remember which of them that this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farhad_Manjoo said that seo is dead and some are even supporting him. Also he said that "Google just broke its search engine" with the creation of Google plus. Me I think search msrketing, seo will live for long time yet,Me personally and my friends NEVER EVER CLICK on Facebook ads(if we do it , is just curiosity, and after we never visit again that page, this guys what I was reading their articles before they said that they see a lot of traffick from facebook.me also but the taffic from facebook dont do nothing, even in adsense they dont click on my sites, not to convert to buyers).I have 20 close friends and none of them cares what kind of content they find from facebook. Is our mentality (I am from CYprus)? Or is just a fact? That facebook ads are just some crap? Or general the acebook is a crap?Me i think that is.Is made for some people who are boaring and need something to kill time.so the traffick what you get is some boaring people who dont care about nothing, just some more things to watch and comment with their friends. So practically you have them on the site and after BAM, new hot site so bye bye.Never visit again your site. Why is so much importand?Their likes etc?The difference with google adsense is that all from our company are clicking on the ads and on the results. (much more on the results, because we think that is the best.Including me that I know that SERP can be manipulated. But we still prefer that. Why all speak about that SEO are dead? Are paid from facebook? WTF? Why I never hear somebody from SEOMOZ to say this?My result is that they are some bunch of I@@@TS and they dont know what they speak or are on the other side.I am sorry for my bad english but like this I can express my fealings. If you dont understand something please ask.

Good response Kris.
For me, SEO is alive because there are SEO pros who are able to deliver a quantifiable result. Think about this: When Google comes out with Search + your world, who are the first people to explain it? When Google or Bing or Yahoo make any changes, it is the SEO s of the world who dig in to find what it means and what it will take to impact a site given the change.
When a site does not function as it should or when a business cannot get the marketing result they need, they can call a web developer, a marketing company, or an SEO/SEM who gets it. Yes, there are a few web devs who do and I know of several marketing firms that have true SEO pros, but in the end it is the SEO who brings sites back from the dead in most cases.
When I think of all the changes in the last year, I think of every person who really got what was going on and the ones who made sure they learned it. SEO's for the most part. So, is SEO dead? Maybe for some, but we are taking on clients almost daily and having fun. So, if this is dead....I must be in HEAVEN!!!

I think the "SEO is Dead" statement comes from a fundamental lack of understanding of what SEO actually is. While we search marketers tend to clump a lot of extra marketing tasks into the SEO bucket, SEO in its simplest form means exactly what it says.. search engine optimization. Search engines will always exist in one form or another. Even using the "FIND" function in twitter is tapping into a search engine. As long as there are people searching for things and thus information retrevial, optimizing that will always be a necessity. People tend to confuse short term tactics with long term definitions. Just because article marketing or link building or digg may no longer be the way to optimize something for search, or even if google and bing cease being the preferred search portals it in no way means SEO will go away, just the strategies and tactics and applications will change.

Real-Life Negative SEO Study
This isn't so much of a question as an offer The Offer first, then the story. We are currently the target of a sustained negative SEO. This was only discovered in the last 3 or 4 days (Webmaster reports impressions down from 15,000 to 1,600!). I'm not asking for help, I believe we know what to do in order to combat it. My question is whether anyone at MOZ would like to use it as a real-life ongoing case study. We are not a new company and have never dabbled in black hat SEO. All current thinking suggests that this shouldn't have been possible given our age and reputation. A summary of our company/site below: 9 Year old domain $3m annual sales Previous Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Company 25,000 Facebook fans Hundreds of natural links including CNN.com, Washington Post, Inc.com I'm not the best writer and I'm not that technical. I would gladly give the right person full access to anaylics, webmaster tools, sales reports, interviews. Given that this is still ongoing (and there's always a chance we might not recover!) I suspect this would make a great case study for the community given the right author. gfbM8kV

SEO Conferences - Which to start with!???
My SEO / Internet marketing business (I also have contractors that handle web design and development) is going well and growing and I am interested in attending one of the many conferences. (SEO is my passion but I am more of a marketing guy than super technical) I was hoping for a little bit of advice from somebody who has been to some of them where would be good to start. Where should I start? I am in Wichita, KS. which is in the middle of the US (bring on the yellow brick road and Dorothy jokes) and don't plan to leave the country for one. PUBCON, SES, SMX, SEARCHFEST, MOXCON, PUBCON...... Thank you very MUCH for any advice. Super appreciate it! Matthew

SEO Referral
Anyone used an SEO or SMM company that they would recommend? I know about the recommended sites on SEOMOZ, but I can't afford to pay someone $4K a month for consulting or link building. Anyone still feel safe outsourcing?

Is it OK to discuss SEO for an adult site?
Hey guys, I run a few big tube sites and sales pages that contain adult material. I'm also new to these forums, so before I do anything that might be considered rude or innapropriate, I wanted to know what the stance was on asking for advice related to the SEO of my adult sites and/or posting links. I've read the Etiquette disclaimer, however, I don't actually intend to post images or anything of the sort, only ask for your opinions and preferred strategies. If its completely frowned upon, then I completely understand and will never bring the subject back up again. Cheers and Happy to be amongst you all!
