Indexed pages in Google webmaster tools
-
Hi Mozzers,
Very quick question. Google WM tools interface has updated and I want to confirm I'm looking at the correct figure.
If I look up 'Your site on the web' / 'search queries' / then the 'pages' - this is correct indexation figure yes?
This differs from the 'site:' command but that's always the case.
Can anyone confirm,
Thanks

As fair as I know, there is no other equivalent of this value. You should wait 1-2 days, usually big G is fast at checking the sitemaps and showing up some relevant data.
Also you can now test your sitemap data with the GWT so it will benefit from more than 1 part your work if you submit your sitemaps.
Cheers!

Thanks guys - what if the sitemap has not been indexed yet? Its not been submitted so is there not an equivalent of the 'site:' command in WM tools with no sitemap submitted?
cheers

Hi Gareth
Those, to my knowledge, are only the pages which received impressions (appeared in Google search results) and only for the last month. This is not the number of pages Google has indexed.
Using the site: command like you mentioned is the best way to get the number of pages indexed. Also, if you've submitted an XML sitemap to webmaster tools and you know its complete, WMT will tell you how many pages out of your sitemap are has indexed.

Hi Gareth,
If you want to check the number of indexed pages in Google then go to:
site configuration -> sitemaps
There you will have URLs submitted and URLs in web index.
I hope that helped,
Istvan

Is it better to create more pages of content or expand on current pages of content?
I am assuming that one way of improving the rankings of current pages will be to create more content on the keywords used... should this be an expansion of the content on current pages I am optimising for a keyword or is it better to keep creating new pages and if we are creating new pages is it best to use an extension of the keyword on the new page – for example if we are optimising one page for ‘does voltage optimisation work’ would it then be worth creating a page optimised for ‘does voltage optimisation work in hotels’ for example and so on? I am guessing maybe both might help, this is just a question I have had from one of my clients.

Google not displaying my page title and meta description
Google is automatically picking up random text from my page and displaying it in place of the page title and meta description on the SERP. What can I do to avoid this? I want my page title and meta description to show up on the SERP. The url of my website is: wishpicker dot com Thanks in advance!

Why will google not index my Images
Hi I've added to index images in our sitemap although they are showing as being submitted Google hasn't indexed a single one. This has been the case for about 3 months. Is there any reason why Google would not index them? Thanks

Duplicate Page Content and Duplicate Page Title
Hi All, I'm new in SEOMoz and have some questions after I have already spend 2-3 days trying to resolve the problems identified from Crawling one of my clients websites. I get quite a lot of Duplicate Page Conntent and Page Titles warnings and trying to find a workaround through the forums and posts. I continuously get this error on most of my pages: URL: http://domain.com/benefits with the same Page but with a WWW in front URL: http://www.domain.com/benefits Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks, Athos

Would it be bad to change the canonical URL to the most recent page that has duplicate content, or should we just 301 redirect to the new page?
Is it bad to change the canonical URL in the tag, meaning does it lose it's stats? If we add a new page that may have duplicate content, but we want that page to be indexed over the older pages, should we just change the canonical page or redirect from the original canonical page? Thanks so much! -Amy
