What is the best way to broaden the reach of our website?
-
We were specifically targeting the Capital Region of New York and environs and now our goal is to broaden the net to reach potential clients. Should I to drop the location terms we already have baked in to the copy and add broader location terms? OR just add newer terms?
We're developing a new design that sharpens our focus, but here is what we have now:

Thanks for any suggestions

Just add new terms and build more quality links that aren't localized. The local terms aren't going to harm you nationally. By the way your home page title is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long =P

What is the best way to show content in Listing Pages?
If it is e-commerce site and a product listing page there is always a conflict how to show the content? As per my understanding we can show content in two different ways. 1. To show little content and use **Read more. (**In this case there is a direct message to the google: Here is the content visible and rest content is hidden but available for visitors to read more 2. Can use** Scroll bar**. So here is the message to Google and visitors that my full content is available here. So just scroll down to read further. So I want to know that which method of showing content is best and it's impact of SEO where there is UI constraint or both the method is ok without any SEO impact. Please share your suggestions. How to Handle Website Merge?
We are a law firm and have another law firm merging into ours. Our branding will remain the same, but I am trying to figure out how to best handle their website transition. Should we link it to ours (although their PR & page authority are not significant) or should I map each page to ours with similar content with a redirect? MY main concerns are not damaging our website's SEO by doing something search engine's would frown on and also to try to take advantage of any organic traffic or referral traffic. Or maybe some combination - link homepage with added verbage that attorney is now with our firm and a link and redirect the sub-pages? I look forward to thoughts from anyone who might have experience with this type to issue. Thanks in advance! JulieHow t

Mobile website content optimisation
Hi there, someone I know is going to put their site to a mobile version with a mobile sub domain (m.). I have recommended responsive but for now this is their only way forward to cope with the 21st April update by Google. My question is what is the best practice for content, as its a different url will there need to be a canonical tag in to stop duplication and thus being penalised from the Google panda update? Any advice much appreciated.

Best way to get SEO friendly URLSs on huge old website
Hi folks Hope someone may be able to help wit this conundrum: A client site runs on old tech (IIS6) and has circa 300,000 pages indexed in Google. Most pages are dynamic with a horrible URL structure such as http://www.domain.com/search/results.aspx?ida=19191&idb=56&idc=2888 and I have been trying to implement rewrites + redirects to get clean URLs and remove some of the duplication that exists, using the IIRF Isapi filter: http://iirf.codeplex.com/ I manage to get a large sample of URLS re-writing and redirecting (on a staging version of the site), but the site then slows to crawl. To imple, ent all URLs woudl be 10x the volume of config. I am starting to wonder if there is a better way: Upgrade to Win 2008 / IIS 7 and use the better URL rewrite functionality included? Rebuild the site entirely (preferably on PHP with a decent URL structure) Accept that the URLS can't be made friendly on a site this size and focus on other aspects Persevere with the IIRF filter config, and hope that the config loads into memory and the site runs at a reasonable speed when live None of the options are great as they either involve lots of work/cost of they involve keeping a site which performs well but could do so much better, with poor URLs. Any thoughts from the great minds in the SEOmoz community appreciated! Cheers Simon

Correct Way to Write Meta
OK so this is a really, really basic question. However, I'm seeing some meta written differently to normal and I'm wondering if a) this is correct and b) whether there is any benefit. Normally it's like this: However, I am seeing it written like this is some places: So, the content= and name= are swapped around. I assume the people that did this were thinking that bringing the content forward would mean that Google reads keywords first. Just wondering if anybody knows whether this is good practice or not? Just spiked my interest so apologies for the basic nature of the question!

Best way to display maintenence mode on a website?
I have a website with lots of traffic and sometimes the backends fail. I want to use lighttpd to show that the website is under mantenence and should be back up shortly. I was thinking of using Soft 503 errors or doing a 302 for every page to /maintenance.html. What would you do (besides fixing the backends, we are already doing that :P) to avoid hurting your SEO efforts? Thanks in advance Mariano
