Using twitter to boost organic rankings
-
I was told that Google uses Twitter traffic as a ranking factor. How could i use Twitter to boost the rankings of my website? i play in a live band if that helps you to generate some ideas for me.
Thanks in advance for everyone's input!

It's important to look at Twitter as a way to engage with your fans and get your content out there rather than solely as a way to increase your rankings. If you're not there to interact with people, you'll find that they get uninterested quickly. The same goes for Facebook, Google+, etc.
I love the idea that Aran mentioned about having a Youtube channel. You can do a lot with that and even could post the videos on your site and tweet those links. One of the greatest things I've found though is to simply ask! Ask your Twitter followers what they'd like to see from you on Twitter. People LOVE giving their opinions so I'm sure you'll get some feedback. You could try that on Facebook and Google+ as well.
The idea really is to get a group of fans who are interested in what you're writing about or posting on your site as well. Maybe it's tour dates, or posts about your concerts, but something that gets people interested enough to tweet and retweet.
Hope this helps a bit!

If you want to boost your organics and social media, you need to look at all the options, not just Twitter.
For Google, use Google+ (I've already +1ed things and seen immediate, short-term results) and for Bing use Facebook and Twitter.
However, it's really important that you don't focus on these things too much, they are short term gainers, whereas link building and getting the site in order from A-Z will be much better in the long term.
Also things like blogger out-reach etc is important - they are still partly a social signal - and their links will last a lot longer than Twitter mentions etc.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ron,
You need to put the Tweet this syle buttons on your website and get people to share the page amongst there pages. There are plenty of ways to encourage people to share th content, but by far the most effective is to have some awesome content...perhaps you have recorded a song or covered a popular song, you could offer it as a free download when people tweet the page?
When Elbow covered beyonce's track Independent Woman the social sphere went crazy!!!
Do you have a youtube channel?

Hi Ron,
Yes it is widely known that Google uses Twitter as a ranking factor. Linked URLs etc... These are part of Social Metrics and Google+ as well as Facebook are part of this.
SEOmoz did a few lovely experiemnts related to this here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/do-tweets-still-effect-rankings
Essentially the SEO value of using any of these social sites would be similar in effect as to what hHigh Authority websites are. If you Tweet frequently and have a significant volume of other similarly active followers you influence is higher. Tweets and even re-tweets can influence this. I would recommend tweeting with purpose and linking out to core valuable pages where you can with context.

My big and famous website is ranking worse than unknown sites, what to do?
I have a major, popular and well-established website in my niche (lil peep merch) (lilpeepmerch.net) in my country, known as the largest, or one of the largest. But even with 12 years and loads of quality content, my website ranks WAAY worse than unknown ones, most of the time not even showing up on the searches at all, or ranking like page 7 in Google, while my rival, who does the same thing I do (and sometimes worse than what I do, like just publishing news when I publish news, and information, in-depth articles) ranks page 1 in Goo. I use Yoast SEO, try to do everything I can (but I'm no developer and have no access to my site codes), but my only good result is for one specific keyword.

Advising clients on Blogs, twitter and social
I am looking to put a crib/cheat sheet together for clients about writing content, blogs and twitter and other social. I want this to be SHORT - SHARP and to the point. Any advise is appreciate. This is what I have so far.... Blogs - Tell the world what your company is doing, whats new, also link it to the news - BE INTERESTING - Educate don't just say "we offer this services its great" - make it relevant BUT do not be obvious - ask yourself would you read this blog find it interesting - read it again - what did you learn? Twitter - Treat like a micro blog with a personality - use it to great a company personality do not just link to your site when you do a blog post - comment on news events - BE INTERESTING - BE FUN - Make people want to engage with you - we recently tweeted this:- eg:- Something pointless for the weekend - See fun video link. Social - Again use it to create a company personality - be fun but do not just copy and paste the same content - judge your audience. Feel free to help.... watch?v=isZNJjPsaMI

Is there a ranking report for SERPs not specific to a URL
Is anyone aware of a tool or service that's available that will report on SERPs no matter what the URL is? Meaning, if I ask it to give me the top 50 results for a certain keyword, I would like it to give me a report on each URL that is ranking for that keyword.

First 500 Twitter Followers....
I am about to start a brand new twitter account... I have been reading about people offering to set-up accounts with 500 followers... I assume these are spammy/fake profiles. I was thinking of looking into twellow.com or twiends.com. Any experience with these? How do you get your first 500 followers? Also any other ideas? AND Does the follow back model work i.e. you follow me and I follow you.... I would of thought healthy twitter accounts for more followers than people you are following.... Discuss... 🙂

Drop In Rankings / Traffic... Can you find any technical issues with my site?
I haven't spammed the engines, if anything I haven't done enough link building. So let me start here: I split my old domain www.STbands.com into two separate domains - www.Suddora.com and www.CustomOnIt.com . The main site now goes to Custom On It and each page directly 301 as it was relevant. I knew there was going to be a little blow back... The first month went fairly well but last week we noticed a dip in organic search traffic and sure enough some of our main keywords are now suffering. I am wondering if this is because we haven't been building enough links to the new domains or if our new eCommerce CMS (magento enterprise) has technical SEO issues that is giving Google trouble. Nothing on GWT looks terribly wrong, should i be searching for something specific? Anything helps at this point, we are in dire need of some direction on what could be wrong. Any suggestions?

Do cuss words on social media sites affect ranking?
This is a hard one, I'm sure. In regards to search, I've read that Facebook pays close attention to verbs and that Google takes into account related words close to anchor text and search terms. Now I have the unique opportunity to work as the internet sales and marketing consultant for a company in serious need of brand reputation repair. The company has experienced a terrible fallout from a recent product recall. Unfortunately in this case, the company site has really strong reach, which means that our blog posts, product descriptions, and twitter comments can be found copied on hundreds of websites hours after they are posted. The most recent incident has associated our brand name with words like cheaters, scam, phoney, copycat, and other words that will certainly get filtered here. All my attempts to assure unconditional refunds and offer phone support get labeled as a desperate attempt to save the brand. No doubt, the company has issues but will surely overcome them in time. SEO Question: Should I close the Facebook page and set strong filters on a new page to delete the onslaught of negative comments or should we spend the time to clean up the current page? This is a difficult decision, as I know many companies like Hubspot, Mailchimp, and Rackspace actually look at Facebook pages to qualify business leads (no fans, go home). Damage control suggestions also welcome, but the crux of this issue here is how our brand name and product names will be associated with cuss words or negative terms and how this will affect our ranking in SERPs.

Use blog.domain.com or socialbrand.com?
I've got a little bit of a dilemma. A company I'm working for has an ecommerce site that is moving to Volusion. It is impossible to add "domain.com/blog" so I am forced to use a subdomain in order to keep consistency. We are starting a push in Social media and have secured shorter handles for the brand to use on the different networks. One of the main goals originally for developing a blog is to build trust but since the domain names are so big (26 characters) and the ecommerce sites already have a good amount of trust building factors in them I am beginning to question my original plan. My question is this: If I go with a shorter brand recognized domain name to develop the blog on which is different than the ecommerce domain (keyword matched) will I loose too much trust and ranking opportunity because of the difference in domains. I know there isn't a golden bullet for this question but i would love to get you your take on it.

Research into citation and it's effect on ranking
Hi I'd like to know if there has been any research into citation (brand mentions on external sites) and how it has / hasn't effected ranking, particularly Google Search? If any body can point me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks
