Pagerank sculpting case...
-
We have a website which has:
a) a top navigation with links to top categories
b) a footer with links to top categories and to every subcategory
c) the following structure: home > category > subcategory > items
For usability purposes I plan to remove the links at the bottom and add a drop down menu to each top category in top navigation.
I plan to make all links in the top nav no follow in order to be able to do pagerank sculpting for each category (will build links that point to each category and pass link juice to subcategories and then to items, but I don't want link juice to spread across all of the site through links in the footer, which as said before will be removed)
Is pagerank sculpting still valid? What do you think of my plan?
Thanks for your time.

But you can ask yourself if the link needs to be there at all... (Does every page need to link to your privacy policy, terms and conditions etc...)

Thank you very much for your concise and excellent explanation.
Needless to say, other opinions are welcome.

You used to be able to do this, but PageRank sculpting is no longer valid. I wouldn't nofollow any internal links. Nofollowing links burns the PageRank rather than sculpting it. Here's an example:
Page A links to Page B, C and D. Page A has 6 link juice "votes" to cast to these pages it links to. Page A passes 2 votes to each page, B, C and D.
You nofollow the link to page D. Now page A passes 2 votes to page B and C, and no votes to page D. 2 votes are lost by the nofollow. It doesn't pass 3 votes each to pages B and C.

Linking Domain vs Domain authority : Do they related!!!? (Case study)
Hi everyone
Link Building | | serikozay
I just came across a website which I'm working on. As we know DA & PA directly related to each other. I'm building organic links through last year and the result is so odd !
As you see in Pic 1, number of linking domains is naturally increasing. But in Pic 2 DA gets negative impact through this process and decreases!
How are they related anyway? Can anyone helps?

Case studies reflecting success with linkbuilding campaigns
Hello, Was wondering if you all could point me to case studies reflecting successful linkbuilding campaigns / practices. We'd love to learn more about companies (like Trip Advisor) that have had success in producing great (10x) content and securing many links to increase in ranking. Thanks!

How does PageRank pass through a backlink on a subdomain vs. subdirectory?
Scenario 1: I earn a link on exampleblog.root.com/example-page/. The DA is 90, but it's a brand new page so PA is 0. Subdomain is also new, zero backlinks. Scenario 2: I earn a link on root.com/example-page/. The DA is 90, PA is still new so 0 for now. My assumption is that PR will flow from the homepage through the subdirectory then ultimately to my domain. If the subdomain doesn't inherit any of the root-level metrics, then should I even be worried about the DA in scenario 1? What are the seo implications between the 2 scenarios?

Is it a good idea to create a blog that offers quality content but also passes PageRank to sponsors
I am a part of a business networking group that has lots of members who services home owners (a/c repair, plumber, home inspector, etc.). I am thinking of starting a blog to help home owners be better informed how to care for their homes. I would like to ask for sponsorship from the people in my group. I would also like to invite them to post on the blog as a way to improve their SEO. Would posting on this kind of blog hurt, help or not affect their SEO? Would this violate Google's policy of selling links that pass page rank as described here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en.

Pagerank 0 vs Page Authority 53....?
I sometimes see sites with PageRank 0 but Page Authority 50+. For instance http://auto.beginthier.nl/: PageAuthority = 53
Link Building | | PrizeWize
mozRank = 4,64
mozTrust = 5,69
Root domain links = 42
PageRank = 0 How should i interpret these stats? If or instance i'm optimizing for a car related website (a site about: car parts, car insurrance, classic cars), would these be a good place or a bad place to get links from (ignoring the benefits of direct traffic)? PA = 53 (very good) Vs. PR = 0 (very bad)?0 -
What are the relative values of different PageRanks?
I'm planning a link-building campaign, and I've realised it'd be good to know the relative values of different PageRanks. e.g. does a PageRank 5 site have 10 times as much effect as a PageRank 4 site? Or 100 times? Or 2 times? I'm thinking, rather than spending ages getting 10,000 PageRank 3 links, I should just spend a bit less time trying to get a few PageRank 7+ links! I'm even considering offering incentives to staff for getting links - to do so it would be good to be able to value each PageRank accordingly. Any suggestions / knowledge / experience / stats gratefully received! Alex

Is it ever the case that a link isn't worth having?
We have been asked to provide a link on our website to a website which provides us with recycled computers to use (our company brand is based around recycling). They have agreed that we will get a reciprocal link back to our site. However the comparisons show that - perhaps this isn't worth it? Our page authority: 39, theirs 26. Our domain authority: 41, theirs 14. Our linking root domains: 41 theirs 7. Finally their links are in the # [li] list [/li] # format I guess my question is threefold: 1 - Will they get significantly more out of this linking opportunity than we will? 2 - Is it worth having the link anyway? (Can it hurt us in any way?). 3 - Does having links in the # [li] list [/li] # format effect the power of the links contained? Thanks.
