CSS Hiding Text - Does this matter to search engine crawlers
-
Hello,
I'm working on a site and a developer is using CSS to mask crawlable links below. Then, java, advanced search links go on top of this. So, if you disable Java, but have CSS enabled, you don't have a lefthand nav. With both CSS and Java disabled you have a fully crawlable website.
Is this a red flag? I understand a user without java would have a problem since most people don't disable CSS. But, is this a problem for search crawlers?
Thanks!

Google can index and render both CSS and JavaScript, and has an uncanny ability to sort out bad intentions, so if you're trying to mask links with these, Google will (eventually) figure it out. Your developer's assumption is wrong. Google has come a long with with this, and can even index some AJAX content (when JavaScript loads additional content to a page from the server).
Lots of navigation use accordions and other widgets that will display or hide navigation links depending on the page state. That's fine. Just don't go out of your way to hide links.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. This is what I thought..,.so you're saying that Google can access/activate the CSS files? I think our developer assumes that Google doesn't activate the styles, so the links underneath would be fine. Thanks!

It is, you must serve the same content to user then you do to bots.

Hiding Price html component for all countries except US
Hello everybody, We are planning to have a new website soon, which will be an E-Commerce website for people from the US, and non E-Commerce website for people from other countries. In other words, in the poduct pages, we would like to have the price of the product shown to the users from the US, and on the other hand we would like it to be invisible for users outside of the US. We thought about setting the html elelment of the price to be visible only for US users (by ip). My question is - can Google crawler see this as potential cloacking, since we hide some of the content to some of the users (while google might scan it from US iip address)? Thanks in advance...

How does a search engine bot navigate past a .PDF link?
We have a large number of product pages that contain links to a .pdf of the technical specs for that product. These are all set up to open in a new window when the end user clicks. If these pages are being crawled, and a bot follows the link for the .pdf, is there any way for that bot to continue to crawl the site, or does it get stuck on that dangling page because it doesn't contain any links back to the site (it's a .pdf) and the "back" button doesn't work because the page opened in a new window? If this situation effectively stops the bot in its tracks and it can't crawl any further, what's the best way to fix this? 1. Add a rel="nofollow" attribute 2. Don't open the link in a new window so the back button remains finctional 3. Both 1 and 2 or 4. Create specs on the page instead of relying on a .pdf Here's an example page: http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/mackie-cfx12-mkii-compact-mixer - The technical spec .pdf is located under the "Downloads" tab [the content is all on one page in the source code - the tabs are just a design element] Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Whats the best way for me to stop these search result pages from being indexed without stopping the regulars and important pages and posts from being indexed as well? **The typical search query looks like this: ** http://xxx.com/?s=Milnerton&search=search&srch_type AND this also includes results that are linked to the "view more" such as:

A reduction in traffic from google searches (via analytics)
We first noticed it after a pronouced downward trend after the most recent agolrithm was released Recent activities include:
Fixing crawl errors in GW with 301 redirects
Optimizing older URLs and creating redirects for those. Any hints of suggestion of what might be the problem what greatly be appreciated0
