HTML5 multiple h1 tags
-
When I run the On-Page Report Card it tells me that I should remove the multiple instances of H1 tags, even though the website is built using HTML5 and has hierarchical structure where each section / article has its own H1 tag.
This approach is completely legal with HTML5 and I'm just wondering what impact does it have on SEO and whether the On-Page Report Card recognises the HTML5 and processes it accordingly.

I know this is an old post but .. Just a heads up the video was from 2009

You see, this is where the confusion comes from. I've just read your article and it is actually saying something different than Matt Cutts have confirmed regarding h1 tags and Google.
I've also done some research online and most of the articles confirm that multiple h1 tags will NOT do any harm if used appropriately. But as you mention Bing might have a different view on this.
I personally like the idea of multiple h1 tags as it's really natural, when you read a paper you don't just have one main heading, but you have a heading for each section on the page.
Can I ask - where did you read about Bing penalising sites which use more than one h1 tag?
-
If you are using html5 and segmenting your page, yopu may be ok with google, but i doubt if you are going to rank well for more then one subject per page.
Bing on the other hand sees such pages as junk pages, and may not index them at all

I assume that the page has an over all theme, i would use the H1 once and use h2 for each segment

Thanks Marcin,
In that case the only last question is whether the On-Page Report Card recognises the HTML5 syntax and processes it accordingly as it did point out that my code had multiple h1 tags - even though I only use these where they should be highlighting important sections of the page without abusing it.

Hi Sebastian,
well, straight from the source (Matt Cutts) - apparently, there's nothing particularly wrong with having multiple H1s, as long as you don't serious overdo it.
Hope it helps.

Is one page with long content better than multiple pages with shorter content?
(Note, the site links are from a sandbox site and has very low DA or PA) If you look at this page, you will see at the bottom a lengthy article detailing all of the properties of the product categories in the links above. http://www.aspensecurityfasteners.com/Screws-s/432.htm My question is, is there more SEO value in having the one long article in the general product category page, or in breaking up the content and moving the sub-topics as content to the more specific sub-category pages? e.g. http://www.aspensecurityfasteners.com/Screws-Button-Head-Socket-s/1579.htm

SEO software for multiple views - Responsive web design
We have a responsive web design website and noticed this morning that we are ranking better on a cell phone search than on a PC search. There has been talk about this happening. My competitors do not have cell phone views or responsive websites. Does anyone know if Moz is planning on adding this kind of ranking information to their reports? Thanks Carla

About NOFOLLOW tag for SEOmoz analysis
Hi all, Another issue while trying to resolve all the duplicate content SEOmoz reports to me. May be some of you guys can help: I have a dynamic error page on our website, generated in case of error, that can happen on many urls. Of course that one should not be indexed. I added the following tag on the HEADER: name="robots" content="NOODP,NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW" /> To me this should prevent from having this page indexed, but also from having this page reported by SEOmoz analyzer as duplicate content. Any hints?

How can I Pull OSE Data for Multiple URL's at once
I'm putting together a link prospecting csv (very basic/simple). I'm doing my own manual hunting for link prospects and compiling them in a list in that excel doc. Once I'm done with that, I want to pull OSE data on a larger scale (MozRank, PA, DA, etc.). I know Niel Bosma's SEO tools for Excel exists, but I have a Mac, and it's not available for that. And I can't really pay for any of the big tools right now (ie BuzzStream). Does anybody know of a good tool or way of going about pulling this data in a way that will save time? As opposed to pulling data for each URL one by one. ANY tips would be GREATLY appreciated.

How can I track multiple pages using SEOMoz
Hi there, I setup my domain along with 20 keywords to target. One of the first things I learned is not to focus on too many keywords per page. For this reason I decided to create 5 sub pages and link these pages on my index page. My questions to you: 1. Does SEOMoz track the keyword rankings for the URL entered only?
Moz Pro | | debeenus
2. If the answer for 1 is YES, Would I have to setup those 5 extra URL's as new sites along with their 3 to 5 keywords? Thank you,0
