Bad Adwords Leads and B2B Placement Ideas
-
Hello,
I have two PPC related questions that hopefully someone could help with.
-
My client complains that the majority of leads he is getting are disqualified - mainly due to fake contact info left on the landing page. This happens both in the Display and Search campaigns. We are getting a good number of leads and we checked with Google that there is no fraud involved. What can be done about this? Has anyone encountered that kind of complaint and how did you deal with it?
-
Can you recommend any tools, other than Google's Ad Planner to find good placements for a display campaign? Another client of mine is selling B2B services such as document destruction etc. Where can I find, for example, a list of placements frequented by people from the insurance business? I never had a problem finding placements for B2C but B2B seems to be a lot different.
Any insight will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Michal

When you say you have checked with Google there is no fraud involved, what exactly have they said they have checked? The only way I could see of evaluating if the forms were the result of fraud would be checking they didn't come from the same IP address (similar to how they try to identify 'click fraud') but this is fairly easy to mask with an extension like Stealthy or a more sophisticated IP masking app. Few Qusetions -
Could you give an example of how the info is 'fake' ie legitimate sounding inquiries with a fake email address or is it just nonsense information?
Do the forms look like they may have been spammed by some sort of bot or automated program? Usually relatively to spot this kind of thing ie repetiton of some sort of pattern or syntax that would never be entered by a human etc.
Has your client recently (or ever) had an acrimonious situation with a competitor or past client/customer?
My first suspicion would be someone (most likely a competitor) taking 'click fraud' to the next level by also wasting staff time with dodgy inquiry forms, a little elaborate but really the only logical conclusion I can reach. I would also say this scenario is more likely in a market where cost per click is reasonably high (say £2+). Be interested to see if you discover any more.
Oh, one more thought having said that - has a developer thoroughly checked the functionality of the form? I'm sure they checked the obvious but you never know.

To answer your first question...
Are you drilling down the disqualified leads to a specific area of your ppc account? I would first look at that. Is it in display and on certain sites? Is it a certain group of terms? Assume you have event tracking setup on the contact form so you can do this drill down and do some email match ups to get the data you need.
To comment on #2
Have you thought about trying other areas like linkedin ads where you can target businesses or specific positions at a company before? You can do the same drill down on facebook but imo facebook is less likely to convert if you draw them away from facebook for a landing page.

Adwords Broad Match Quality Score
** This question is about QS of Broad Match and how it pertains to THE AUCTION ONLY. Not looking for opinions on campaign/ad group structure/strategies. For an Adwords account where all the ad groups are using modified broad match keywords I see that some keywords are assigned quality score. Obviously a broad match keyword can be triggered by a very wide variety of actual keyword searches. So I assume/guess that Adwords assigns a quality score for every single keyword entered that matches with that broad match and then makes the quality score for the broad match an average of the actual search term used quality score weighted by the volume of searches for that search term? Or am I wrong and the quality score for a broad match is the exact match quality score for that term (I doubt that since broad match the words can be in any order.) So for example, let's same I have this broad match score: +auto +insurance This is going to match with: auto insurance companies, auto insurance prices, luxury auto insurance, auto insurance brokers, and on and on and on. Let's say my landing page happens to have a lot of content about ratings for auto insurance brokers. If the CTR for that terms is high, when it's matching my modified broad match, does that mean Adwords assigns a higher quality score, internally, to the search term "auto insurance broker" so if that term is entered, for the purpose of the auction, Adwords doesn't use the quality score of the broad match but the quality score it has calculated for that specific search term -- I just can't see what it is because I don't have that term as an exact match term on my account. Or, does it use the broad match quality score no matter what search term is used that matched the broad match? I would be highly surprised if that was true. If this were true, then you would want to break out the important terms into their own exact match keywords. In many cases, the more efficient strategy for an account is to have fairly narrow modified broad match terms coupled with a very large negative keyword list. The question is mainly, is there any advantage from the perspective of competing in the auction to have the term be an exact match versus matching a modified broad match keyword? If QS is stored for the actual search term, then I would assume the answer is NO. I know it would provide more granular reporting and the ability to more fine tune landing pages etc etc etc but I'm just talking purely from the perspective of the auction.

Adding AdWords Remarketing Pixel to "Partner" Domains?
I have read through the AdWords advertising policies, but there isn't an extremely clear answer to my question: does it break AdWords policy to include a remarketing pixel on a partner website? Example - I own and run 123boats.com, my acquaintance who owns abchotels.com has agreed to put my remarketing pixel on his website, and I plan to show remarketing ads to his website visitors advertising my services at 123boats.com. Is anyone aware of any documentation that explicitly allows or disallows this type of "partner" remarketing tracking?

AdWords & Iframes?
We have a client that has syndicated content across a variety of domains. They have no access to the domain/hosting for the site that the content is being syndicated on, but would like to run PPC campaigns to these pages. The page is a header, footer and then the main page content is inside of an iframe, and I was wondering if Google will even allow that to be used as a landing page for a PPC campaign? Thanks!

Do Adwords affect organic rank?
I used to rank 2 for "guitar outlet" I just dropped to under 50th. Only change I made was to pause a Adwords campaign where I was including that keyword. Oddly enough, I believe I ranked high for that keyword BEFORE I added it as a keyword, but I cant be 100% sure due to lack of timing notes. But is it common for adwords to affect organic? If not...where do I start to look for the answer as to why it dropped?
