How do I successfully verify my site for Baidu's webmaster tools?
-
Instructions for verifying a website via file validation for Baidu's webmaster tools are pretty vague. Does anyone know if the process is the same as Google Webmaster Tools where the verification string must appear in the URL and in the content of the file? Also, does it truly have to be verified within 2.6 hours? Appreciate any feedback from people who have successfully verified their site.

If domain mapping subfolders to TLD's is it perceived as a fully separate entity/site therafter ?
Hi I take it once you have domain mapped a country specific subfolder to a country specific TLD (for better local region targeting reasons) Google perceives it as a completely separate entity and it no longer shares any of the parent sites domain benefits (such as domain authority etc) so from that point on requires its own dedicated link building etc ? 'Mini' versions of our website for overseas markets. Does it matter?
Hi Guys. I work for an e-commerce site called TOAD Diaries, we make bespoke diaries and journals. In essence we allow people to design their own diary online, then we make it and send it. We have already sold some products to poeple in many European countries, (Malta, France, Germany) but we want to have a better online presence for those overseas markets. So….. We're want to do an overseas ‘test case’, to see if we can sell more products in Europe. Out thinking is this: We’ll buy a subdomain for a specific country. Then we’ll then build a ‘mini’ version of our site in the appropriate language. This be a country specific landing page with links to our ‘design your own diary’ pages, basket and checkout. All in the language we’re targeting. Question: Will having such a small number of pages in the targeted countries language effect out ability to rank well? It will be maybe 10 – 15 pages in size. Or is it much more to do with on page optimization and quality backlinks? i.e) the site's size has no impact. What other factors should we consider when trying to rank well in other European countries? Many thanks in advance.

Was Geotargeting subfolders in webmaster tools deprecated?
I know that you used to be able to geotarget subfolders on your site to certain regions. We recently made some site-scale updates to make all of our regional pages appear in the appropriate subfolder (for example:site.com/france, or site.com/germany). I recently got admin rights to our site's webmaster tools account that allows us to make these setting changes, but the geotargeting options are only available for the entire site. It still implies on the multi-region site page that you should be able to do this: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=182192 | Subdirectories with gTLDs | example.com/de/ | Easy to set up Can use Webmaster Tools geotargeting Low maintenance (same host) | Users might not recognize geotargeting from the URL alone Single server location Separation of sites harder | Is this deprecated? Is there something I need to do to enable setting regions by subdirectories? Thanks

Best domain for spanish language site targeting ALL spanish territories?
hi, we're have a strong .com domain and are looking to launch a site for spanish speakers (ie latin america + spain). we already have various subdirectories for some foreign language sites (eg. ourdomain.co.uk, us.ourdomain.com, ca.ourdomain.com, ourdomainchina.com, ourdomainindia.com etc) we already have a B2B site ourdomain.com-es which will remain the same. I'm thinking best practice would be to launch translated copy for the following: ourdomain.com/es ourdomain.com/cl ourdomain.com/mx ourdomain.com/pt etc etc firstly is this the best option? secondly, i'm really interested to hear whether there is a less time/resource intensive route that would give us visibility in ALL spanish speaking territories? Also - if we go with just one of the above (eg ourdomain.com/cl) how likely are we to get traction in other spanish speaking territories? any help much appreciated!

How to optimise a site for 2 countries
Hi there - Any help with the below much appreciated I am helping an Australian company, producing packaging products for businesses. Their site is hosted in Australia and their offices are in Australia. They have asked me to take care of both on-page and off-page SEO so that they rank for keywords related to their products - e.g. 'cardboard boxes'. This should be fairly straightforward for Australian based (.com.au) searchers, but they also supply their products to South Africa, and so want their results to show up also for South African based (.co.za) searchers. Also consider: it is not typical for searchers for these products to use geomodifiers in their search terms there is no unique content for the South African market versus the Australian... the product information is essentially identical. What should we do to ensure their results show up equally for those in South Africa as well as Australia? I am considering building a completely separate site, hosted in South Africa and specifically for the S.A market, but will the duplicate content effect be an issue? Also, this would essentially mean double the SEO effort, is there no way I could achieve our goals more efficiently? many thanks to any help

Google Webmaster Tools - Geographic target - Time till change
One of my clients is targeting UK customers. They have UK IP address. I then noticed that they had their Geographic target set to "Target users in: United States". I advised them to change this. Anyone know: How this could have been set, the client says they didn't do it? How long will it take for Google to see this has been changed? Thanks in advance. Justin

Google UK picking up USA Site
I have a site with two subfolders one is .../uk and one is .../us Part of the content on the two sites is the same and part is unique. The US site's language is set to en and the UK site's language is set to en_gb. I have setup geo-targeting in webmaster tools. The problem is that the home page is a GEO-IP redirect and it seems to be picking up information from the US site even on google uk. I'm not concerned too much about getting the uk site crawled as we submit a sitemap for that anyway. But my concern is that if I setup the geo-ip redirect as a 301 will my UK site loose all of it's ranking? Also am I likely to be penalised for duplicate content?

Est ce qu'on peut poser des questions en français ?
(can we ask questions in a language other than English?)
Neil0
