Will google see you bold/emphasis words if done in css?
-
We do not use header tags in our website. I understand bolding or emphsising words can be equally as effective but if done so in css will the google crawlers and spiders etc be able to put a weighted value on this style of code???

To add to what Bonnie has said, proper structure helps the search engines as well as those with any type of screen reader -- it's good for accessibility, too. If you can't convince them from the SEO standpoint, try accessibility.

Diane,
A couple fo things. Google has repeatedly said that they need to see your CSS, so make sure your stylesheets are not blocked in robots.txt. The main reason they want to crawl that is probably spam detection for those of our brethren who might dabble in the dark arts (using CSS to hide SEO text is a classic spam technique). But they'll be able to interpret your CSS just fine.
That said, please have TPTB reconsider using header tags and other proper structural elements. These tags are ultimately there to show how the document is structured -- something search engines are more interested in now than ever before. All you can do to clarify how your site is organized is an SEO plus.
But I agree with my colleagues that neither approach is going to REALLY bump up the keywords in today's SEO landscape.

I believe that bold/strong has minimal effect at best. USE HEADER TAGS!
I haven't heard anything specific to what you're asking, but I'd venture to guess that Google will see font-weight:bold the same way they see tags. They are smart and I'm sure they've put in methods of accounting for the probably millions of sites that use things like (assuming that works, not sure).
Short story: I wouldn't worry about it, unless you can find direct evidence to the contrary. But, for goodness sake, use header tags!

I can't give you an absolute technical answer to this, but generally speaking, Google will credit you for what would be seen (or not seen) by someone actually visiting the page. So, Google looks at how the information is presented, which would be after the styling is applied. I would suggest using a combination of Webmaster Tools -> Diagnostics -> Fetch as Googlebot and a text browser like Lynx to see how Google is potentially viewing your page.
Hope that helps!

Removing old URLs from Google
We rebuilt a site about a year ago on a new platform however Google is still indexing URL's from the old site that we have no control over. We had hoped that time would have 'cleaned' these out but they are still being flagged in HTML improvements in GWT. Is there anything we can do to effect these 'external' dropping out of the indexing given that they are still being picked up after a year.

If I put 'keyword/url' combination to 'stop run weekly', will it dissapear from the summary page in the on-page grader?
The summary page of the on-page grader chooses the keyword and url combination itself. Now if I choose another combination, I would like the former to dissapear from the summary page. The only option is 'stop running weekly'. But will it disappear from the list also?

Main page deindexed by google.
3 days ago our main page('/') has stopped appear in google results. Rest of pages works fine. Even our main page from canadian version of site with similar content works fine. Some times canadian page appears for key word where we had our com version before. But I think this is just result of disappearing com version. Any suggestion were to look? Messages box in google webmastertools is empty. Could this be the question too long page title? PS: Does any way exist to check if we were punished by Google and reason of this? For Bing and Yahoo everything works fine. PPS: We have just found that "cache:our_site.com" and "info:our_site.com" returns in google our_site.ca. So this should be reason of problem. So now we are looking how to fix this.

Will changing the title of previous topics affect google results?
Hi all, just had a quick question about google results. I help run a sports forum and currently all our topics as seen as "Forum Name • Topic Title". I think that links to topics would appear much more user friendly if I switched the naming to "Topic Title • Forum Name". My question is, would this change affect previous links in any negative way or will google simply update past topics with the new naming convention? Thank in advance.

Separately bolded words
Do separately bolded words (for example: red and bike) increase the SEO value of a compound bolding in the code like red bike? I’m a rather inexperienced SEO. Thank you in advance for any feedback.
