Panda and Thin Content
-
Hi Guys,
I have a quick question. We have a website and in the wake of Panda, we are worried about our video news section.
We produce about 10 videos news a month on a templated page and beneath it is a small extract of the words spoken in the video. The text below each video is about 180 words each.
Currently the video news section makes up and 1/5 of the content on the site. I.e Out of 500 pages, we have about 100 video news articles.
Should I be worried about being wacked by Panda for this?
Can I tell Google this is a news section?

I wouldn't be worried if my content is useful to users and have a good level of quality

Maybe you can combine some of these pages? Show more then one video on each page...
Have you considered a blog for this?

Hi ,
From my understanding Panda is also about thin content. SEOmoz's videos are somtimes 15min long which produce alot of content.
Our are vids are about 1min each which gives you about 150 - 180 words.
Within the site there is the core commercial pages, tips and guides, then video news content. Over time, the site could be made up of largely 150 word pages.
Any other ideas?

Panda Update is about duplicate content, it's when you have text in more the one page that is exact. Only the first original content gets indexed. However in your case I am assuming you have a video with a transcript below it. Well they do that here on seoMOZ and theres nothing wrong with it. In fact, I recommend it. Some people prefer reading the content rather then watching the video.

I think make it natural.. Make site for users not for google... Allow users to post comments and their views on those videos. That will make UGC, and users will spend more time interactive with comments and replies.

Great content/news articles - but struggling to drive traffic from them
We publish 2-3 great quality news stories/posts on our sites weekly, but are struggling to gain traffic from external sources for them, other than our own blog and socials. We have followings for each of our sites, but want to expand and get our posts found in other relevant blogs, features, releases etc. The posts are 'Top 10 Tips...', 'How To... in 6 Easy Steps', 'What Makes a Great...' etc. All great things that people want to read about and share. All this of course helps towards the SEO of the sites, but the posts aren't written for that, they are written to guide and inform. My question is, how are other people getting their great content found online, talked about and shared? I personally think that our posts are awesome; containing useful information that will help people. Isn't that what it's all about?

Is there a content ratio that google looks for?
What i mean by this is: If i have a 1000 page ecommerce site that has say 10 pages of good quality content (1% good content) and a competitive site that has 100 pages of good content (10% good content) and another that has 500 (50%). if they are all almost the same in every other way the 50% content site would win hands down. however this is not always possible to have so much good content on some types of site. The question is: Is there a min percentage to aim for? Also is there a similar min rate of content production to aim for. Is their a kind of tipping point to get past that google will think they are doing things right i should keep an eye on them!

Thin/spun content or No content at all?
So I'm working on a site right now that has been plagued with spun/rewritten content..we are talking in the thousands. Now would it be a smarter idea to just remove all the content or leave the content? This is an ecommerce site and I'm tasking a few people to rewrite fresh authentic content. So all of the spun/thin content will be removed eventually. The main question is to just delete it all right now or just replace as we go. I'd like to know what you guys think.

Duplicate Pages Different Content
Will duplicate pages different content hurt rankings/seo E-commerce Site is plugin style with WYSIWYG editor allowing for full customization, all pages are setup with basic default content. Ive created custom pages with content/keywords to begin seo on them I have two pages www.domain.com/sports/hockey and www.domain.com/nhl-tickets The first url is default, with a single H1tag, + Default Meta+Title tags, the second is the content rich page, and structured properly, both of which show up on the site, should I block the first url from displaying at all? The reason I am asking is because ive also setup breadcrumb links, which makes all of these category url's accessible on the site, I cannot edit breadcrumb links, we can either have them there or remove them. Thank you Very Much!!

Duplicate content on forums?
I am creating a forum. I am concerned that when I create the forum, users will copy content from other places to post onto my forum. How negative/bad is this in terms of google eyes? I am concerned when people copy press releases and re-post it to the forum. Should I make a rule that all content must be typed and not copied? Or is a little copying okay?

Emailing content to posterous
Posterous is setup to syndicate my content to my personal WP blog. After reading information on SEOmoz, I realize that Duplicate Content is not a good thing. Should I stop this process? Note: The way it works is I email a post to posterous and it posts it there and on my WP Blog and create a FB post and a Tweet.

Onsite Content - Word Count & KW Density
Does the word count of a webpage make a difference to search engines? Are longer word counts on pages indexed higher or given higher priority? For example, say you have 300 words of copy packed with 20 keywords, and say you also have 700 words of copy that have the same 20 keywords worked in, does Google have a preference over which one it ranks higher?

Forum Site: Content Value Post Panda
I run a forum website built on Wordpress. We're about two years old. The theme of the site is a directory of attorneys, with each directory listing having its own blog account on our site. Through this platform, we receive 75-80 blog posts now every month of varying quality from our users. QUESTION: A good number of the blogs published on our site are also published on the attorney's law firm site as well (they're syndicating on our site). Will this hurt our site in light of Panda? A lot of the syndicated content is very well written and insightful. By contrast, Will non-syndicated but average to below average posts hurt our site? The authors almost always link back to their firm site. Would love some feedback on whether we should be happy about the syndicated content or whether we should potentially ban it?
