Is my company's privacy policy diluting our SEO efforts?
-
Good morning! I'm new to the SEOmoz community.
This morning, I spot checked a couple pages using the Term Extractor. When looking at the results, I noticed that we're ranking for many of the terms contained in our privacy policy.
Our privacy policy is set up in the footer of our page templates and appears as a light box that pops up over the page you're viewing, so it looks like every page (from a search engines perspective) contains every word of our 900-word privacy policy.
Since several of our legal terms are showing up as "targeted terms" within the tool, would it benefit me to change the privacy policy link from a light box to something else? Perhaps a link to a static page that contains our privacy policy instead?
Are the search engines smart enough to see the repeating text and ignore it from page to page, or am I just diluting all of my SEO efforts here?
I'm after big wins here, and don't want to be too nitpicky, but concerned this could be a big SEO no-no that I might want to correct.
Thanks in advance for your expertise!
Ben Culbert

Thanks for the helpful advice guys - I appreciate it!

Ben, I would go ahead and change your setup. Having a large amount of duplicate content (that isn't really relevant) across your site certainly isn't going to help, and it could hurt you. I would link to a static page as you mentioned.

In the past Matt Cutts has said to nofollow links to pages you don't want to rank in the SERPS. Such as a privacy policy, login page, contact us page. I believe Google likes to see a privacy policy but you don't need the link followed in order to get credit for it.

Do SEOs really need to care about trend in increase of voice search?
Hi all, Just browsing through the articles like "SEO trends in 2108"....I can see everyone mention about increase in voice search and attributing same to the SEO at top. But there is very less information on how to optimise for voice search....May be, they don't know what SEOs have to do exactly with voice search. Basically the input method is going to change on search and else remains same. This must be leading to increase of long tail searches and more search snippets to give an instant voice answer. What else has to be optimised to favoured in voice search? Thanks

SSL, SEO, and Site Migration question
When migrating a site to a new url and one where the old url had no https and the new url will be full https does it matter if the 301 redirect points at http://thisisthenewsite.com ? Meaning, should the new site have the ssl / https up prior to redirecting the old site? Does it matter if you redirect the old site to http://thisisthenewsite.com or https://thisisthenewsite.com? Since the site will force to https anyway?

How import are breadcrumbs SEO wise on a wordpress blog?
I was recently told I should take the breadcrumbs off of our site, for if no other reason than that it would look much nicer, and I tend to agree. I was curious how much seo weight breadcrumbs add to a site, and if I would take a big hit if I removed them... Thanks!

URL question for SEO...
I'm thinking of creating a new url off an existing url and was wondering if there would be any impact. For example I have the URL www.baseball.com and rather than secure a new url for a new product launch such as www.newbaseballproduct.com I want to do newproduct.baseball.com Will this hurt my SEO rankings for this new site? Basically wanting to figure out if this will hurt me or not? Should I get a new url or re-utilize an existing URL... really for a landing page/micro site, etc.,

Does using Wordpress Multisite have any negative SEO impact?
I manage multiple websites in Wordpress and the idea of managing them all under one Wordpress install is very attractive. Are there any dangers SEO-wise to doing so? I know that all of the sites would live under the same IP address, but that's not something I'm really concerned with anyway because I don't do a lot of inter-linking between the sites. Thanks for your help! -El Juano
