Are moderated external links in a "showcase" worth having?
-
We have some e-commerce software with several dozen websites that use our technology. The websites have links to the developer and design shops that made the site as well as the site itself. All of these sites are moderated so we don't have to worry about spam.
My question is should some or all of these links be rel=nofollow? The links are definitely pointing to legit development shops but those sites aren't always strictly related to e-commerce or the keywords we're trying to rank for.
Any thoughts on how to treat these links?
-
Just to clarify, our site provides e-commerce software, we're not an e-commerce site ourselves. Also, the links don't have keywords in them so that's not so much a concern.
Still, it sounds like you're saying there's little value in linking out in this situation. Thanks for the input.

If I had an ecommerce site, I would not want links to developers and design shops on my pages - especially if they are keyword anchor links. It sounds like their are multiple links here and I think that is also excessive.
In my opinion, the developers and design shops should be linking TO their clients rather than trying to siphon from them.
-
Are you saying its fine for my site but the individual sites might not want them as inbound links?
-
Google isn't stupid. Credit links are common and legitimate enough that it knows about them and how to handle them. However we've noticed 2 things regarding credit links since penguin:
1. Watch the anchors
There is a world of difference in intention between a link that looks like this: Site by XYZ Developers and one that looks like this: Website Design New York. Credit links commonly appear site wide in the footer and if those links were pointing to me I'd want to make sure that they look as unlike spam as possible.
2. Don't expect them to count as much
Hard to isolate this amongst all the other changes, but we've seen drops on sites that might suggest this type of link now counts for less. Really hard to say that for certain based on our data, as there are other factors in play. However it makes sense.
Whether you keep them or not is up to you as it's really one of those borderline things. Hopefully the above will help you make an informed choice.
-
If these were my sites I would remove those links completely.
-
Sounds like you have a pretty good control on who those pages are linking to. Typically larger e-commerce stores won't add footer links to their service providers in the footers, and I know a lot of web design agencies that add the link into the template without even asking the client if it's OK or not.
Since an outbound link in the homepage would sap some of the link juice of the site, I would suggest putting it under the control of the e-commerce store owner, whether or not to include those footer links, and whether or to make them rel=nofollow.
-
If the links are to legitimate sites and the links offer value to your users, I would leave them as followed links. If you have a concern about the target site then you can change them to nofollow.

Ecomerce: Would 4 link sections leak too much link juice?
Hello, In my content management for our ecomerce site, I've found that there are sometimes links to sites in our industry that have "helpful links" sections. Several strong sites link directly to these resource sections. There are 4 different topics that fit this trend in our industry. Would it leak too much link juice to make 4 comprehensive link sections and place a link to them on our "Useful Articles" page? Or should I stick to one comprehensive link section? Or perhaps a small link section? Or none at all? Thanks.

External links - link to third party sites
Greetings! Actually, got an doubt on linking to external site. The thing, i have working for roof marketers site. They have covered roof products. Each of the products have a page along with major keyword. Actually, i do link from other pages[internally]. Can i just past RAW link like [http://www.thirdpartysite.com] or what do i do. But my client wants that link to be in content area. Hope you would understand my long explanation and case Please help us. Thank you

OSE shows links on sites but can't find links
Hi mozzers, I'm cleaning up our backlink profile and looking up anchortexts in OSE. I downloaded and selected one anchortext. However when I go to the sites OSE found, I can't find the links. I look in the source code and onpage keywords. Is it because of my lack of skills that I can't find the links 🙂 or isn't OSE working properly.

Link Targets
What do you think of getting links from... high quality sites, with many non spammy high trusted links to them....but their traffic has been majorly hit by panda. I suspect perhaps for having too many thin pages. Is persuing links on these sites a good idea or not? I'd welcome opinions.

How to advertise "tip of the day"
I have an email list of a few thousand and would like to start giving my subscribers a tip of the day. However, I have found that emailing all of them an email every day calls for a pricey email subscription. I was thinking of an RSS feed and a widget but those will only satisfy website owners/viewers. What is the best way to give a tip of the day via email to my subscribers without it costing me an arm and a leg?

It is already happening on social networks if you are active there, but what about on your website. What are your thoughts on the following ? Google's job is provide the most relevant results to surfers online, and looking the link profile of a site & the page itself is the key to determining which page to serve on plate to the surfers link query ! I think that we as webmasters have to ask ourselves what do we want to achieve with link building. To get quick traffic or build slow authority links, high rankings, lead generation, sales & other things here I may be missing etcccc Other Objective Networking & Relationship Building Alliances : What I discovered today is that building links for 1st page rankings are great and will provide me with steady traffic, but not all of it is targeted traffic, but what else can I do to bring targeted traffic and at the same time try to build alliances with other related non competing business owners online. The idea... is to apply old school networking / relationship building alliances to get targeted traffic to my site that can actually benefit from my services. How Do We Achieve This I become a editor for approving resource links for me site, only the best will be placed on my site as a resource. Build a valuable tightly themed categorized resource section with related non competing resources that can help my sites visitors find what they are looking for, send visitors to non competing resources that may purchase their services which helps me build a relationship with them, and may can with rankings as well, provided I am selective with my qualification process. Questions & Concerns Below : What should I be thinking about when creating a resource categorized links page How many outgoing do follow links should I allow from this links partner page How will this links resource page affect my own SE 1st Page Rankings and is it worth it based on getting targeted traffic Any pros / cons I may be missing here0
