Necessary to redirect non-www to www?
-
Hello All,
I've read quite a bit on here and the Matt Cutts blog http://mattcutts.com/blog/seo-advice-url-canonicalization/ about non-www vs www. I''ve also read a few recent posts on here but still left a little confused.
First, my site is PR 4. We don't have many links, but the ones we do have (including internal) point to the www.example.com. You can also get to our site by typing example.com and it will not switch to the www. version. Both versions have the PR4, I just want to make sure I'm not losing any PR or juice between the different versions.
My question, would you advise 301 redirect to the www version? if so, I have Godaddy as our host, is it as simple as going into the hosting control and doing the redirect there?

Use http://www.opensiteexplorer.org
Type in both urls and you'll see which one has more links to it.

Jordan,
Any idea where i can find out where most of my links are pointing to, the www or the non-www version?
-
Yes it is a good idea to redirect the non-www to the www as long as the www has more links, otherwise I would suggest the opposite (www to the non-www). You just have to make a file named ".htaccess" and placing this in the document:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com/ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [L,R=301]
Then just upload it to the server.

MOZ identifies duplicate titles - one has' www' in the title
MOZ has identified duplicate titles - one has' www' in the title. - we have a few pieces of content where the same thing is happening. Not sure how this has happened. Opinions on leaving Non-SEO Pages without a H1
This one is pestering me and i am on the fence, so i thought i'd ask the trusty Moz community for their opinion. I am running a technical / onsite audit for a client who has quite a pretty, creative and animated homepage with lots of overlaid imagery. As its primarily imagery, including their glossy typography and clickable links, the page does not have a H1. Now i know this goes against best practice, however it's unlikely the page will ever be served as an SEO landing page (in current format), so what are people's thoughts on leaving as is without a H1, considering we are not going to try and ranking the landing page for any particular keywords. Let us know your thoughts! Thanks

So i am assuming that wordpress is serving up https://www.domain.co.uk/blog **RewriteBase /blog/ **is re-directing it to / then my https rewrite is re-directing it again I am not sure where exactly to fix this, could anybody advise? From an SEO perspective, which is preferable in the URL for a non-English site: local language or English?
For example, the article is titled ' गर्मी में त्वचा की देखभाल कुछ यूँ करें' (English Meaning: Skin Care Tips for Summer), which one of these three URLs is best for SEO purpose? 1. example.com/ गर्मी-में-त्वचा-की-देखभाल/ (URL in local language, Hindi in this case) 2. example.com/summer-skin-care-tips/ (URL uses English words with English translation) 3. example.com/garmi-mein-twacha-ki-dekhbhaal/ (Hindi words, but written in Roman English) A response will be much appreciated, Amit

To redirect or not to redirect...That is the question
We have old product data that is being updated (approx 30k sku's). Most of the old pages have been indexed and drive the majority of our online sales. But, the updated products have different titles, H1's, etc and have been re-formatted for the better in terms of usability. So, should we redirect thousands of pages to the new pages? Will Google be ok with that?...or should we reformat the current url's with the new data? And, if we reformat current url's with new data...the fear is that the on-page elements that the pages are being pick up for will get wiped out, (be it the H1 in some cases or the title or alt tag for another, etc) because it's simply too much to retain them during the import. 302 Temporary Redirects
Hi, We currently have a number of 302 redirects set up on our e-commerce store that redirect from no forward slash at the end to a forward slash at the end of the url (see below). example: domain.com/treadmills

Redirects to
domain.com/treadmills/ Am I correct in saying that this will not pass link juice and the redirects should be changed to 301's (or just removed?). Or are the two urls treated the same (with or without forward slash)? Thanks in advance! Regards,

Www.sitename.com or sitename.com?
A client of mine's site is currently sitename.com. www.sitename.com redirects to the non-www URL and the canonical is using the non-www URL. This is a fairly new site and there aren't many existing inbound links. Is there a benefit to switching this?
