What to do about bad links from Social Media Bookmarking

I'm still relatively new to SEO, so this site has been super helpful but I've hit a wall. My predecessor at my new(ish) job left me with a site that has been hit pretty hard by Penguin. I've been working at establishing all the bad links, and there are a lot.
One of the things that I have found is that at some point a Social Bookmarking scheme has been run and there are a huge number of links (all with spun content) on low quality sites. I don't think there is any value in them and at the moment they are ranking so badly that I really don't care if a couple of them do have value, I'd rather start again - changing the urls etc is not an option
I can't remove these links so about the best that I can do is to 'bury' them but of course this doesn't mean they disappear. Is this worth doing? Does anybody have any better suggestions?

Thanks for this - that makes a lot of sense. Have been trying to contact the person who put them up but am yet to hear back (I'm forever hopeful though!).
Unfortunately the links are pointing at the homepage, I have already decided to write off a few pages which are suffering from a set of different bad links.
The new link building approach will definitely be good links - the website is for a business selling a quality product so there is no reason we can't build it up using normal marketing and avoid the spam!

- Sounds like you tried this already, but: If there's any way at all to find out who was hired to build those links, or what service was used (if any), you can likely go to them and get most of the links removed, all at once.
- What do those links point at? The home page, or something else? If they point at other pages on your site, and those pages don't have much other link juice, you might consider changing the pages' URLs and 404'ing the old ones. That would cause the social bookmarking links to fall out of Google's index (I think) and reduce the penalty.
- Worst case, keep a detailed list of the links you've tried to remove, the reason it failed (no contact info, site owner refused to remove, etc.) and then send that log to Google with a re-inclusion request.
And, no matter which of these you do, try to 'bury' them with good links. That's always a good idea. Focus on the kinds of links, and link-generating content, that would make sense for a normal business doing normal marketing. That should help you improve your profile.

100+ PPC Landing Pages Linking To Main URL... Hurting My SEO?
I started another thread around this question but don't think I was articulate enough. So, I have over 100 various landing pages that I use for targeted PPC. I don't really have any interest in these pages amassing their own SEO value; I simply use them for my PPC accounts. However, they all link back to my home page. Is this considered a link farm? And, if so, is the best option to simply add a nofollow attribute to all the links pointing to my home page? Would there be any reason to keep the links as follow? I don't think they're giving my site any SEO value but I'm concerned that they could be harming it instead. Any expert advice would be much appreciated.

Adwords Duplicate Keywords with Different Match Types - Good or Bad?
If you have the following keywords in an Ad Group advertising for a product, let's for example call it "target" product [target product] "target product" +target +product I've found that the exact match keyword has the highest conversion rate in almost all circumstances. So it would make sense to have a higher max bid on the exact match then phrase or broad batch. Even with lots of negative search terms to maximize conversion on the broader matches, if the bid is the same as exact match, the cost per conversion will be much higher (too high.) However in chatting with an Adwords Support Rep (on a different matter) they stated after looking through my account at the end of the chat: " duplicate keywords will impact on quality score. your all keywords will compete with each other" However many of the ad groups in question these duplicate keywords have quality score of 9 and 10. So obviously if there is an effect it seems it may be minimal. I thought it was pretty common for people to bid higher on more exact match and lower on more broad match. What's the real story here? Was this support rep not seeing the big picture?

Linking Adsense to an Anaytics account
Hi Ive linked an adsense account to the relevant sites GA account but cant see an approporiate new section in GA with the Adsense data in it! I presume there should now be ? If so where should it be and if its not there what's likely cause/fix ? All Best Dan

Campaign Tagging (Medium) for Paid Social
If we tag our paid social links with medium=cpc, will that traffic and conversions rollup under social or paid search in the channel reports? The other option we're considering is tagging with medium=social. Thanks,

Questions on Paid Directory Links...
Hi Moz Community! We have a client in the manufacturing industry that is listed in Thomasnet.com for a about 75 different terms. For those that might not know, this is a paid directory site that ranks extremely well and has a very high DA at just under 90. These 75 different terms have spanned about 9,000 "dofollow" links on Thomasnet.com around 4 months back, right about the same time as the Penguin 2.0 update. The link profile for this client had around 2,000 links prior to the 9,000 additional links, and our team is unclear if we should be concerned about these paid directory links. The organic rankings have dropped a bit, but that might be because of a more general Penguin update and not be directly tied to this paid directory. I'm looking for some general guidance and recommendations in this paid directory space and help with Thomasnet.com if available. Should these links be requested as changed to "nofollow"?

BOTW, Yahoo Directory and Joeant - Unnatural linking, surely?
Hi, I have been reading with interest that many SEOmoz forum members still believe that a link in BOTW, Yahoo Directory and Joeant can still add value to a linking strategy. It's my understanding that the Penguin update was designed to stop unnatural linking and link buying but Google does still seem to place some kind of value (although potentially diminished) in these directories despite them being pretty much exclusively paid for links. What am I missing here and in a money no object world would you guys still consider them part of a good linking strategy? Many thanks

Linking Adwords to Analytics for Multiple Clients
what is the best practice for this? Right now everything is under many different passwords and logins, yet conforming them all to one comes with a bunch of loopholes and bumps along the way. Does anyone know how to get a few clients under the same username and password (linking the AdWords and Analytics for each of them)?
