Duplicate Meta Descriptions From Pages That Don't Exist
-
Hi Guys I am hoping someone can help me out here.
I have had a new site built with a unique theme and using wordpress as the CMS. Everything was going fine but after checking webmaster tools today I noticed something that I just cannot get my head around.
Basically I am getting warnings of Duplicate page warnings on a couple of things. 1 of which i think i can understand but do not know how to get the warning to go.
Firstly I get this warning of duplicate meta desciption
url 1: /
url 2: /about/who-we-are
I understand this as the who-we-are page is set as the homepage through the wordpress reading settings. But is there a way to make the dup meta description warning disappear
The second one I am getting is the following:
/services/57/
/services/
Both urls lead to the same place although I have never created the services/57/ page
the services/57/ page does not show on the xml sitemap but Google obviously see it because it is a warning in webmaster tools.
If I press edit on services/57/ page it just goes to edit the /services/ page/ is there a way I can remove the /57/ page safely or a method to ensure Google at least does not see this.
Probably a silly question but I cannot find a real comprehensive answer to sorting this.
Thanks in advance

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the detailed reply. I will follow these suggestions up and fingers crossed it should sort the problem.
edit:
I have spotted the permalinks is set to following
/blog/%category%/%postname%/
am i right that the /blog/ could be removed just leaving /%category%/%postname%/ for the same effect.
Thanks

This one's a little mysterious for sure!
Your theme seems to be allowing a number added after the URL - like any of these actually load the page (without a 404)
- http://www.ministryofsearch.net/jobs/100000/
- http://www.ministryofsearch.net/about/873918/
BUT - words don't work;
http://www.ministryofsearch.net/about/dog/ <---gets a 404 page, that's what should happen with the numbers.
Somehow your theme is allowing these numbers to be added. Some thoughts;
- Check your permalink settings. Could be a simple surface level fix like that
- If you're comfortable with .htaccess see if there's any setting in there that would allow these pages to load (you can view .htaccess right within Yoast->Files)
- Comb through your plugins and see if any are allowing this setting
- Worst case, you may need to take this back to whomever developed your theme.
The end result, is you don't want pages to be able to load with those numbers at the end like that. Anything besides the exact URL (or tracking parameters) should return a 404.
Hope that helps you get in the right direction!

Duplicate page titles for blog snippets pages
I can't figure the answer to this issue, on my blog I have a number of pages which each show snippets and an image for each blog entry, these are called /recent-weddings/page/1 /2 /3 and so on. I'm getting duplicate page titles for these but can't find anywhere on Wordpress to set a unique title for them. So http://www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/recent-weddings/…/2/ has the same title as http://www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/recent-weddings/…/3/

Thousands of 404-pages, duplicate content pages, temporary redirect
Hi, i take over the SEO of a quite large e-commerce-site. After checking crawl issues, there seems to be +3000 4xx client errors, +3000 duplicate content issues and +35000 temporary redirects. I'm quite desperate regarding these results. What would be the most effective way to handle that. It's a magento shop. I'm grateful for any kind of help! Thx,

The use of tabs on productpages, do or don't?
Does google has any trouble reading content tabs? The content is not loaded by ajax and is already in the page source code.
Technical SEO | | wilcoXXL
As i'm checking some big e-commerce websites or (amazon.com for example) they get rid of the tabs with content and put the different content below eachother. Is his better for SEO purpose? But what about user experience? For users it think it is easier to navigate by tabs then to have a long page to scroll. What do you guys think about this issue?0 -

Duplicate Content on Product Pages
Hello I'm currently working on two sites and I had some general question's about duplicate content. For the first one each page is a different location, but the wording is identical on each; ie it says Instant Remote Support for Critical Issues, Same Day Onsite Support with a 3-4 hour response time, etc. Would I get penalized for this? Another question i have is, we offer Antivirus support for providers ie Norton, AVG,Bit Defender etc. I was wondering if we will get penalized for having the same first paragraph with only changing the name of the virus provider on each page? My last question is we provide services for multiple city's and towns in various states. Will I get penalized for having the same content on each page, such as towns and producuts and services we provide? Thanks.

Duplicate Page title - PHP Experts!
After running a crawl diagnostics i was surprised to see 336 duplicate page titles. But i am wondering if it is true or not. Most of them are not a page at all but a .php variation. for example: The following are all the same page, but a different limit on viewing listings. Limiting your view to 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 as you choose. .com/?lang=en&limit=5 .com/?lang=en&limit=5&limitstart=10
Technical SEO | | nahopkin
.com/?lang=en&limit=5&limitstart=15
.com/?lang=en&limit=5&limitstart=20
.com/?lang=en&limit=5&limitstart=25 Same type of things are going on all over the site causing 228 duplicate content errors and the already mentioned 336 duplicate pages. But is "crawl diagnostic telling the truth" or is it just some php thing? I am not a php expert so any input would be much appreciated. What should i do?0 -
Does 'framing' a website create duplicate content?
Something I have not come across before, but hope others here are able offer advice based on experience: A client has independently created a series of mini-sites, aimed at targeting specific locations. The tactic has worked very well and they have achieved a large amount of well targeted traffic as a result. Each mini-site is different but then in the nav, if you want to view prices or go to the booking page, that then links to what at first appears to be their main site. However, you then notice that the URL is actually situated on the mini-site. What they have done is 'framed' the main site so that it appears exactly the same even when navigating through this exact replica site. Checking the code, there is almost nothing there - in fact there is actually no content at all. Below the head, there is a piece of code: <frameset rows="*" framespacing=0 frameborder=0> <frame src="[http://www.example.com](view-source:http://www.yellowskips.com/)" frameborder=0 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0> <noframes>Your browser does not support frames. Click [here](http://www.example.com) to view.noframes> frameset> Given that main site content does not appear to show in the source code, do we have an issue with duplicate content? This issue is that these 'referrals' are showing in Analytics, despite the fact that the code does not appear in the source, which is slightly confusing for me. They have done this without consultation and I'm very concerned that this could potentially be creating duplicate content of their ENTIRE main site on dozens of mini-sites. I should also add that there are no links to the mini-sites from the main site, so if you guys advise that this is creating duplicate content, I would not be worried about creating a link-wheel if I advise them to link directly to the main site rather than the framed pages. Thanks!
