Erratic Behaviour In The SERPS
-
I am seeing some really erratic behaviour in the SERPS just now.
We have 2 domains a .com and .co.uk
The .com is holding fine on page 1 however the .co.uk is jumping from page 1 to page 4 almost on a daily basis. Now, we are aware that our link profile is not the best on this domain and we are working on this just now creating more quality content/links.
If this was a penalty surely it would drop to page 4 and stay there... This bouncing around seems very strange.....
We have updated the on page content etc to make sure that we are following all best practices but nothing seems to be working...
Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem?

hope so!. On saying that another client has seen huge increases!!
Do they not know we have businesses to run LOL!

i think it has something to do with the penguin update, which at this point updates every few weeks. Could be that we've been hit by the latest Penguin 'wave', maybe even neg seo'd, i've seen a lot of that recently. Alternatively it could be a localized tweek or just general testing that Google does frequently.

Hi There,
Yes I have noticed big drops for a client also. Do you think it's just a temporary thing?
My clients site I am looking at is in .au
-
Matthew,
You are not alone and i don't think its limited to .co.uk domains. for the past 10 days I've observed a lot of fluctuation in rankings and this morning i saw big drops for some important keywords. I think google is rolling out updates to the algo again.

Hi Matthew,
Well whatever it is, your not alone!!!.
Hope it settles down as client's get nervous, which makes me nervous
-
This has been going on for a few weeks though... That's why I thought it might not be the good old "dance"
-
Think we are experiencing a Google dance. My client has just dropped majorly today, then I checked again an hour late and it changed again!.
This is why we shouldn't be overly checking rankings!! But yet glad its not just me!

Matt,
You are right, there is erratic behavior of SERPS in co.uk. We have a website which ranks in first page for a competitive keyword, for 3 days it ranks in top 5 and for the next 3 days it ranks in 15th position and it comes back again.
I was also checking ranking for another US based website in .com, but to my surprise I saw huge number of co.uk websites in first page.
I know I'm not a expert but it feels kind of weird when I see the SERPS.

Translated version of meta description showing in SERPs
Hi all, When a search for our brand is done, the homepage is shown but the meta description is in French. We have a translated version of the site available once the user is on the site, but there's no reason it should be displaying the translated version in the SERPs. This issue has never happened before and began last week. Anyone seen anything similar? https://www.google.com/search?q=revolve+clothing Thanks.

Does Having A High PPC Bounce Rate Affect Organic SERPs?
Hi Mozzers. My website uses a landing page for Google Adwords traffic targeting keywords like HR Software, HR Systems etc. The design of the landing page is similar to our website but a key difference is that, being a landing page, we've removed the navigation (it is still possible to navigate to the main website by clicking on the logo). We've A/B tested this and found that by removing the navigation we get more people converting/signing up for the free trial of our service. We track conversions using Google Analytics. Depending on the keyword the conversion rate is between 2.5% and 5%. However, because we've removed the navigation the bounce rate is really high, circa 80% for our landing page compared to an average for our website of approx 40%. Would having such a high bounce rate harm our organic rankings for the rest of the website? Thanks

Google SERPs do not display "cached"
When I am signed in with Google and searching sites, the snippets do not display the "cached" link. Not good since I am trying to see when a particular page was crawled. If I login to another server that I never use to browse and search from there the "cache" link does show up. Assumption: google knows who I am on my machine and is "helping" me.......but is there an easy way to turn this help off?

A site I have currently had the mega site links on the SERP results. Recently they have updated the mega links to the smaller 4 inline links under my SERP result. Any idea what happened or how do I correct this?

How to beat Wikipedia article from the top spot on SERPS?
Hi Guys, One of our clients has a good web site with lots of content that is ranked already on #2 for the top keyword (singular and plural) on Google UK. The keyword itself is a competitive one. The top spot is occupied by a wikipedia article that doesn't have much content in general. Can anyone come up with an advice what strategy we have to apply to outplace that article? Thanks!

Why is my site's 'Rich Snippets' information not being displayed in SERPs?
We added hRecipe microformats data to our site in April and then migrated to the Schema.org Recipe format in July, but our content is still not being displayed as Rich Snippets in search engine results. Our pages validate okay in the Google Rich Snippets Testing Tool. Any idea why they are not being displayed in SERP's? Thanks.
