Is there a negative effect to show categories and products on the same page?
-
I mean having say 5 different categories on a page and showing the products that are in those categories below the categories.
Just In case people don't want to dig deeper to find there product because they know what they need already.
I would also want those categories for the people that need to do a little more searching and have a better reference guide.
So is there any negatives to my SEO doing it that way?

Thank you,
My thoughts were close to the same, but I needed to be sure.
Thanks again!

Hi Mike-
Not at all. Structure your categories to be the most useful for your shoppers. Then allow subcategories to target more specific keywords.
What you're describing is just like having a Men's Shoes category. Within the page, you'd have sections with Dress Shoes, Running Shoes, Casual Shoes, etc. Products from multiple categories will help your visitors realize what they are looking for.
When your shopper realizes what they want, they will drill down into the Running Shoes only section and see products that only fit that mold. Your page title and content on that page will be optimized for something like Men's Running Shoes.
Often times, your base categories, like 'Men's Shoes' will be too broad to rank for unless you are a well-established brand. It's still OK to have them though, as they are needed for user experience. You may find the traffic potential for your site lies in the smaller subcategories and the individual product pages.

Highly interlinking a particular page shows up in Google search results?
Hi All, As we can see the below statement from Google about internal linking: "The number of internal links pointing to a page is a signal to search engines about the relative importance of that page."
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | vtmoz
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/138752?hl=en So if we interlink a page highly than other pages, will it rank on search results instead of homepage? Moreover if the page have "keyword" in URL slug...like www.website.com/keyword. Thanks0 -
Duplicate Content Dilemma for Category and Brand Pages
Hi, I have a online shop with categories such as: Trousers Shirts Shoes etc. But now I'm having a problem with further development.

I'd like to introduce brand pages. In this case I would create new categories for Brand 1, Brand 2, etc... The text on categories and brand pages would be unique. But there will be an overlap in products. How do I deal with this from a duplicate content perspective? I'm appreciate your suggestions. Best, Robin0 -
Will Using Attributes For Landing Pages In Magento Dilute Page Rank?
Hello Mozzers! We have an ecommerce site built on Magento. We would like to use attribute filters in our layered navigation for landing page purposes. Each page will have a unique URL, Meta Title and Meta Description. For example: URL: domain.com/art/abstract (category is Art, attribute is Abstract) Title: Abstract Art For Sale Meta: Blah Blah Blah Currently these attribute pages are not being indexed by google as they are set in google parameters. We would like to edit google parameters to start indexing some of the attribute filters that users search for, so they can be used as landing pages. Does anyone have experience with this? Is this a good idea? What are the consequences? Will this dilute Page Rank? Could this destroy the world? Cheers! MozAddict

E-commerce category page optimization - filters vs. categories
Hi, We currently have a site where there are several subcategories for every main category. So this means that visitors will have to click through 3-4 subcategories before reaching products that they could have easily found if the site would be using filters on category pages. My question is - if a subcategory page with 4 products is currently a category page (optimized heading, description) and I'd want this category to be available through filters, how do I still keep it optimized for search engines? So under a category "Cleaners", we have all cleaning products. There are 8 "Cable cleaners" under this category. This is currently a subcategory, but I'd just solve this with a filter in the "Cleaners" screen. Not sure what's right from an SEO standpoint here.

How long does google take to show the results in SERP once the pages are indexed ?
Hi...I am a newbie & trying to optimize the website www.peprismine.com. I have 3 questions - A little background about this : Initially, close to 150 pages were indexed by google. However, we decided to remove close to 100 URLs (as they were quite similar). After the changes, we submitted the NEW sitemap (with close to 50 pages) & google has indexed those URLs in sitemap. 1. My pages were indexed by google few days back. How long does google take to display the URL in SERP once the pages get indexed ? 2. Does google give more preference to websites with more number of pages than those with lesser number of pages to display results in SERP (I have just 50 pages). Does the NUMBER of pages really matter ? 3. Does removal / change of URLs have any negative effect on ranking ? (Many of these URLs were not shown on the 1st page) An answer from SEO experts will be highly appreciated. Thnx !

To land page or not to land page
Hey all, I wish to increase my sites rankings on a variety of keywords within sub categories but I'm unsure where to be spending the time in SEO. Here's an example of the website page structure: General Home Page > Sub Category 1 Home Page
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | DPSSeomonkey
> Searching / Results pages
- Sub Category 1
- Sub Category 2
- Sub Category 3
- Sub Category 4 > Sub Category 2 Home Page
> Searching / Results pages
- Sub Category 1
- Sub Category 2
- Sub Category 3
- Sub Category 4 We've newly introduced the Sub Category Home Pages and I was wondering if SEO is best performed on these pages or should landing pages be built, one for each of the 4 sub categories in each section. Those landing pages would have links to the "Searching / Results pages" for that sub category. Thanks!0 -
Why do branded manufacturer websites have multiple pages for their products?
My favorite golf ball is the Srixon Tour Yellow ball. Srixon has a product detail page here (www.srixon.com) AND there's also a product detail page here at shop.srixon.com. Is there any sort of SEO penalty here because there's some duplication? Does the fact the store is a separate subdomain make this more allowable? Many branded manufacturer websites work this way but it just doesn't make sense to me to have two product pages that you have to manage content when you can have just 1 with a call to action. I also work for a branded manufacturer and am considering rebuilding our website from the ground up with the online store and the main/marketing website blended into one to eliminate this duplication. We have this same duplicated marketing/store setup as well. any feedback is greatly appreciated. Confused.
