BOTW, business.com, yahoo directory
-
I was wondering in this day and age, do you guys think its worth submitted to these directories anymore?
-
Thanks for all the responses everyone!
-
I did a lot of reading a while back and most people recommended BOTW above all others. So when BOTW had a half price sale a while back, I submitted all the sites we have in our network.
The results were pretty impressive, especially for the smaller sites that had a somewhat small link profile.
I'd recommend it!

Hi Zachary, you make some good points.
In my experience, I've not seen much in terms of results for the small business sites I've dealt with. I do have to admit I've been working a lot more with businesses that are ultimately targeting local.
It has been a while; and if you are seeing recent results, I think it's time for me to do some more testing. Thanks for the update!

I think they are worth it. I've actually seen some nice movement in rankings after a BOTW listing recently.
-
In my experience, yes, these are still valuable links. Although for BOTW I first check the subpage, because their entire directory isn't always indexed.
In general, any directory that has a good index rate, a good link profile, and visibility for the subpage you'll be listed in is an excellent purchase. It still takes some selective choice to weed out some bad eggs, but you'll still find great value from directories.
Again, this has been my experience (even recent!). I see Mr. Andrews' opinion but I'm not sure if that's just an opinion he's heard or experienced firsthand. Maybe he can chip in

I don't think directory listings, even these, provide much worth anymore.
It is more important to ask if you will benefit from anyone actually "seeing" that listing. If you can expect leads from these directories that will pay for the cost of the listing, then do it. If not, your time and money will be better spent in other areas.
Edit: This is how I've felt for a while, but it certainly looks like I need to do some more recent testing. Thanks for the updates everyone :).

Backlinks from local businesses
Hello, I need to make sure I understand this correctly. Will it help my SEO if I: find local businesses with a good DA & low spam score select businesses that are somehow related to mine (Insurance Agency) offer to guest post and include a backlink on their blog ( ask them if they'd like to reciprocate) For example, businesses such as

How does a business have a link back where I can't see the anchor text?
So, I'm running competitor websites through Open Site Explorer and following the link from Moz to where their link is coming from. It has the anchor text 'Christmas Gifts'. When I go to that page there is no mention of this anchor text. No mention of that persons website. No display ad's that could be providing that link. How is this link pointing to their page?

Quick question on meetup.com links
I've been using open site explorer to assess my competitors inbound links. I filtered for "link equity" and returned these results. I noticed a link from meetup.com and investigated it further (a link on this page). As far as open site explorer is concerned this link is passing some value. That said, I noticed the link was actually posted as a comment on the meetup page. When I looked at the source it looked like this: [http://www.meetup.com/sfruby/members/82741532/](<a class=)" class="mem-photo-background-45 square-35 memberinfo-widget" data-memberid="82741532" title="Aleksandr Melentiev" style="display: block; background-image: url(http://img1.meetupstatic.com/501554713870081192606960/img/nobody_50.png);" data-src="http://img1.meetupstatic.com/501554713870081192606960/img/nobody_50.png">![](<a class=)http://img1.meetupstatic.com/6297749526911517292/img/blank.gif" alt="Aleksandr Melentiev" /> [http://www.meetup.com/sfruby/members/82741532/](<a class=)" class="memberinfo-widget" data-memberid="82741532" title="Aleksandr Melentiev">Aleksandr Melentiev Hi. I am the creator of a similar tool - [http://bootcamper.io](<a class=)" title="http://bootcamper.io" target="_blank" class="linkified">http://bootcamper.io. Will do my best to attend this as well. Cheers. <a class="j-like-list tooltip-widget" data-key="reply-32914742-likes">1</a> · February 28 I don't see a nofollow attribute above but I do see the "linkified" class. Am I correct in assuming that this link is probably not passing value? Secondly, can meetup.com descriptions (as opposed to comments) contain follow links? Thanks in advance for your time in answering my noob question!

Getting two BOTW.org listings? Regular drirectory + blog directory?
I have a start-up website. It's a niche market that's not all that competitive. I'm trying to get going with some basic link building, and I'm trying to focus for the time being on some recommended directories: BOTW, yahoo, business.com, etc. I already have a regular BOTW directory listing, accepted a few days ago. I'm wondering if it's worth also getting a BOTW blog directory listing? So two BOTW listings, the first pointing to the homepage, the second would point to the blog. If there is meaningful link juice to be passed, would there be an advantage of having two links? Or will the one I already have suffice? Also, since the site is new, I only have a few blog posts. Is BOTW likely to reject me because my blog is too thin? The posts I have are content-heavy (1000-2500 words per entry), but there's just not a large total quantity yet. Normally I wouldn't consider it, but they're having a cyber-monday sale today where it's 50% off the regular price, so it makes the decision easier. Thanks.

Is the whoisbusinesslistings.com directory a good place to get a link?
I stumbled across the whoisbusinesslistings.com directory and noticed that it's home page is page rank 4 and in the listing it allows do follow links to your site. They don't have pricing listed on the site though which scares me. Only a link to a sales person. Anyone know how much they charge and if it would be worth looking into? Thanks mozzers! Ron10

Paid Directories and On-page Keyword SEO
I have a new website and I am getting ready to submit to a few paid directories to get my links started. I wanted to optimize my domain name/keywords for those directories and also for my on page SEO. My domain contains my keywords. For example "www.horsebuggy.net Questions: #1 Should I target the horsebuggy.net in my on-page SEO or just target horse buggy? #2 When I submit to a paid directory which should I choose for my company name.
