Are links safe from friendsite.com?
-
I have just checked my backlinks in Majestic and was shocked.
It appears I've gained 1500 back links in 1 day all from the domains friendsite.com.
I checked a few of the links and the links to my site have disappeared.
Looking at friendsite.com, it seems that peopel can bookmark a site, and when they do it appears on the "latest bookmerk" section which is site wide.
So my concern is that:
-
1500 links have appeared in one day from one domain
-
1500 links disappeared the next day
Wouldnt both of these cause Google to get suspicious?
What should I do? Should I ask friendsite.com to remove the links?

At MozCon 2011 Martin MacDonald asked the audience, "Who wants 3 million links pointed to their site?" Needless to say, I raised my hand. Live on stage, he pointed 3 million crappy links to my site, shipoverseas.com. I saw 100s of thousands new links in GWT. He kept them there for a couple days. I told Rand about this in a private email, bascially.... "All those links that were pointed to my homepage didn't have a positive impact on my rankings, but just as important it didn't have a negative impact."
Conclusion: Don't worry about it. Google knows that stuff happens. Do what's best for your prospects.
-
Ah ok I see what you mean.
I will keep checking the links to see how many hang around from that friendsite.
Or I may even just request them to remove the links, so I can sleep better at night.
I've suffered a manual penalty in the past along with a Penguin penalty from an external person using BMR. Lost a lot of business, so I am very concerned about getting hit again even though my intention was always to do legit SEO etc.
Thanks guys for helping out. Its appreciated

Hi John,
I think you're worrying too much here. Google's algorithms are not harsh enough to penalize little blips like this in a persons back link profile.
If worried, you could do as Fredrik suggested and setup a WMT account for your site but I honestly feel like you've nothing to worry about.
I've been victim of an unnatural link warning from Google but it was justified due to 1000's of unnatural links built by a previous agency. In your case, you had 1500 links live for 24 hours. I'd be surprised if Google crawled and acknowledged them all as backlinks to your site. And even if they did, that many links means very little since they all come from one domain.

HI Fredrik,
Tanks for replying but I dont feel safe waiting to actually get a warning.
Is there any other way to know if these links will affect my site.
It just seems far too "spammy" to get so many links from one domain and for them to disappear!
-
Hi
Hard to tell if those links could be bad for you without seeing them.
I would suggest:
Sign up for webmaster tools, they now offer warnings for unnatural links.
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/googles-unnatural-links-warnings
IF you get warnings in webmastertools then you could consider using the new Disawow tool.

Hope this helps
Fredrik

Any idea why Google Search Console stopped showing "Internal Links" and "Links to your site"
Our default eCommerce property (https://www.pure-elegance.com) used to show several dozen External Links and several thousand Internal Links on Google Search Console. As of this Friday both those links are showing "No Data Available". I checked other related properties (https://pure-elegance.com, http:pure-elegance.com and http://www.pure-elegance.com) and all of them are showing the same. Our other statistics (like Search Analytics etc.) remain unchanged. Any idea what might have caused this and how to resolve this?

How Many Natural Links Do You Earn?
Hello Mozzers, This is a bit of an open ended question and I don't think any one person is going to be the same. I have recently seen the light in my link building practices and I am trying to get a feel for what to expect in terms of natural link acquisition in an effective content marketing strategy. My question is how many natural links do you generally find yourself earning after the first 12 months of content creation/placement with a new website/industry? I know this is going to be a question with a multitude of different answers. I look forward to your valuable insight as always!

Is a link inside a video player considered an inbound link from the domain the player is embedded in?
Good afternoon...We just added a link to our homepage inside the menu of our video player. In the link below, if you click on the menu icon in the bottom right corner of the video player, you'll see a "Powered by WellcomeMat" link at the bottom of the menu. http://www.wellcomemat.com/video/kt216e25172416n/-Rancho-Santa-Fe/Ca/92067/16596-Via-Lago-Azul/1234567890/ My question for the community is would that link be considered an inbound link from any site that has the video player embedded? So hypothetically, the video player is embedded into www.abcd.com. If a user would click on that link and go to our homepage, would search engines recognize that as an inbound link from abcd.com, even though it sits within our video player? And most of the time, the player sits within an iframe. So that's why I'm not 100% sure. Thanks for reading and for your help! It's much appreciated!!

Questions About Link Detox
Greetings: In April of 2014 an SEO firm ran a link removal campaign (identified spammy links and uploaded a disavow). The overall campaign was ineffective and MOZ domain rank has fallen to 24 from about 30 in the last year and traffic is 20% lower. I purchased a basic package for Link Detox and ran a report today (see enclosed) to see if toxic links could be contributing to our mediocre rankings. As a novice I have a few questions for you regarding this the use of Link Detox: -We scored a domain wide detox risk of 1,723. The site has referring root domains with 7113 links to our site. 121 links were classified as high audit priority. 56 as medium audit priority. 221 links were previously disavowed and we uploaded a spreadsheet containing the names of the previously disavowed links. We had LinkDetox include an analysis of no-follow links as they recommend this. Is our score really bad? If we remove the questionable links should we see some benefit in ranking? -Some of the links we disavowed last year are still linking to our site. Is it worthwhile to include those links again in our new disavow file? -Prior to filing a disavow we will request that Webmaster remove offending links. LinkDetox offers a package called Superhero for $469.00 that automates the process. Does this package effectively help with the entire process of writing and tracking the removal requests? Do you know of any other good alternatives? -A feature called "Boost" is included in the LinkDetox Super Hero package. It is suppose to expedite Google's processing of the disavow file. I was told by the staff at Link Detox that with Boost Google will process the disavow within a week. Do you have any idea if this claim is valid??? It would be great if it were true. -We never experienced any manual penalty from Google. Will uploading a disavow help us under the circumstances? Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it!!! How to detect a bad link and remove ?
As per google penguin, all the low quality back links are going to affect the website SERPS hugely. So, we need to find all the bad back links and then remove them one by one. What I would like to know is, what tool do you use to find all the bad back links ? And how do we know which is a bad back link or bad website, where our link should not be there ? Then what service what do you suggest for back links removal. I contacted LinkDelete.com and they quoted me 97$ for a month to remove all links in less than 3 weeks.

Links directory: is it worth it?
Would there be any benefit or penalty for implementing a links directory with over 300 external links to websites that somtimes return the link? Or would it be more beneficial to simply ask for one way inbound links when gaining links? For example this section of this website: http://directory.flyawaysimulation.com/ This is their directory and most but not all of the sites in that directory link back to them. Your ideas, thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
