Pagination or View All
-
Right now our site is using ajax and we need to change it so all 200+ products will get crawled not just the first 52 on page first page. We are looking at doing the rel=next/ rel=previous or doing it so we have a link going to the View all product page. Or maybe doing the rel=next/ previous and using the canonical to point to the view all etc. I have read http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1663744 and http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/09/view-all-in-search-results.html about it.
Now we are trying to figure out what is the best option. Thought. Here is our site. http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/t/49/-/181/750/Motorcycle-Tires-All Also if we do not do the rel=next just make the view all items as a link that google can crawl is there a way to still have our current url be the one for view all items but only show 52 item unless the click view all items and not have it look like cloaking?
Hope this made sense.

lol. Hey Derek!
Ya, I would assume that page ranks well since its a single url and doesnt change based on the ajax/java functionality. Getting into multiple urls in search results based on categories, filters and groupings gets real hairy real fast. I would recommend thinking through this before you do it. Google will start to index all the page variations (even with canonicalization in place) and then you start getting duplicate content, or unwanted indexed pages.
i would still use the "view all" or make sure that you have a good internal linking structure along with the canonical tagging to get the information architecture pointing to the right spots still.
Hit me up at our next event and lets chat a bit about it.

Hey Ryan it is good to see you. I am Derek from SLC/SEM.
No it is ajax right now for the filter and different pages. We are going to give the pages different urls and we might give the filter different urls too. Would you recommend giving the filters their own URLs too?
Overall it looks like doing the "view all" is the best option. I am thinking of the best way to do that. For example right now this url (http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/t/43/81/165/723/ATV-Tires-All) ranks pages one number 4 on google for the target key work ATV tires. So we want to keep that page as the view all.
But they want to have it so when people click on the link in the nav. it takes them to the page with only 52 products and not all of them.
What would you suggest?
-
I have experimented with various methods and best practices here across multiple site. Here is my suggestion:
1. Do both the rel next/prev and the view all option. In my testing the rel next/prev doesnt really have much impact alone, but doing both rel tags and the canonical to the view all could work great. Google wont really want to pay attention to the paginated content, even when you try to rel next/prev.
However, i did check your site out and it currently doesn't look like you are changing urls based on filters or anything. Are you saying that you are changing that? Would still do both, and then point some additional links to the view all page from some static internal pages and some external sources.

If we do the view all option we do not want to have to do a rel=canonical and the current url to the new "view all" and possibly lose rankings.

Duplicate Page Titles For Paginated Topics In Blog
Hello, I've just run a site audit and it has come up with a duplicate title tag issue for the topics section of our blog. For example it is flagging that the following have the same page title. https://blog.companyname.com/topic/topic-name https://blog.companyname.com/topic/topic-name/page/2 How significant is this as an SEO issue and what are the ways we can go about fixing this? I look forward to any suggestions and guidance that can be provided. Thanks, John

Removing a canonical tag from Pagination pages
Hello, Currently on our site we have the rel=prev/next markup for pagination along with a self pointing canonical via the Yoast Plugin. However, on page 2 of our paginated series, (there's only 2 pages currently), the canonical points to page one, rather than page 2. My understanding is that if you use a canonical on paginated pages it should point to a viewall page as opposed to page one. I also believe that you don't need to use both a canonical and the rel=prev/next markup, one or the other will do. As we use the markup I wanted to get rid of the canonical, would this be correct? For those who use the Yoast Plugin have you managed to get that to work? Thanks!

Set Canonical for Paginated Content
Hi Guys, This is a follow up on this thread: http://moz.com/community/q/dynamic-url-parameters-woocommerce-create-404-errors# I would like to know how I can set a canonical link in Wordpress/Woocommerce which points to "View All" on category pages on our webshop.

The categories on my website can be viewed as 24/48 or All products but because the quanity constantly changes viewing 24 or 48 products isn't always possible. To point Google in the right direction I want to let them know that "View All" is the best way to go.
I've read that Google's crawler tries to do this automatically but not sure if this is the case on on my website. Here is some more info on the issue: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663744?hl=en
Thanks for the help! Joost0 -

Hi Guys, I am needing some help with regards to duplicate page content issues. Using Zen Cart on an ecommerce platform and it is bringing up duplicate page content on pages. For instance:- http://www.blissfulkidsparties.com.au/store/1st-birthday-themes-barnyard-bash-1st-birthday-c-67_321/ is the same as:- http://www.blissfulkidsparties.com.au/store/1st-birthday-themes-barnyard-bash-1st-birthday-c-67_321/?sort=20a&page=1 Rel=Prev/Next as I understand it will treat http://www.blissfulkidsparties.com.au/store/1st-birthday-themes-barnyard-bash-1st-birthday-c-67_321/?sort=20a&page=1 http://www.blissfulkidsparties.com.au/store/1st-birthday-themes-barnyard-bash-1st-birthday-c-67_321/?sort=20a&page=2 http://www.blissfulkidsparties.com.au/store/1st-birthday-themes-barnyard-bash-1st-birthday-c-67_321/?sort=20a&page=3 as one page but won't solve the issue of the duplicate content issues between:- http://www.blissfulkidsparties.com.au/store/1st-birthday-themes-barnyard-bash-1st-birthday-c-67_321/ and http://www.blissfulkidsparties.com.au/store/1st-birthday-themes-barnyard-bash-1st-birthday-c-67_321/?sort=20a&page=1 am I better using rel=Canonical here instead??? Kind Regards Neil

Pagination and SEO: How do I fix it during search parameters?
Today, I have watched very interesting video on YouTube about Pagination and SEO. I have implemented pagination with rel="next" and rel="prev" on my paginated page. You can get more idea by visit following pages. www.vistastores.com/patio-umbrellas www.vistastores.com/patio-umbrellas?p=2 www.vistastores.com/patio-umbrellas?p=3 I have added NOINDEX FOLLOW attribute to page 2, page 3 and so on. There is simple question from my side. Can I remove NOINDEX FOLLOW attribute from paginated page or not? I have big confusion & issues when paginated URLs contain search parameters. You can get more idea by visiting following URLs. http://www.vistastores.com/patio-umbrellas?dir=asc&order=name&p=2 http://www.vistastores.com/patio-umbrellas?dir=asc&order=name&p=3 What is best suggestion for this kind of pages?

Include pagination in sitemap.xml?
Curious on peoples thoughts around this. Since restructuring our site we have seen a massive uplift in pages indexed and organic traffic with our pagination. But we haven't yet included a sitemap.xml. It's an ancient site that never had one. Given that Google seems to be loving us right now, do we even need a sitemap.xml - aside from the analytical benefis in WM Tools? Would you include pagination URL's (don't worry, we have no duplicate content) in the sitemap.xml? Cheers.

Cant view campaign after windows 7 install
i am giving it a try here since seomoz support couldnt help me. Anyone had similar problems ? Earlier i was using W Vista (norwegian version) - did a clean reinstall of windows 7 (english version). After that i couldnt open anything related to the pro version of seomoz. When i am on the dashboard and try to open my campaign nothing happens and I just time out after a while(internet explorer). Tried with google chrome. Google chrome says after a while that this site has a redirection loop that is causing multiple redirections. Its advicing me to try to delete cookies (didnt help) also set security to minimum(didnt help). I then also realized that my google analytics didnt update last 2 days (after install). I am writing this now on my wifes mac. Seomoz and google analytics work just fine. What is wrong? anyone know ?
