Blog comments question
-
Hi,
I don't tend to blog comment that much unless it's actually a genuine comment as in, my first thought wasn't gaining a link back.
What is the best practise for this type of link building?
This is how I do it (When I am looking to gain a link back)
title - brand name
website - root domain
comment - I try and go above and beyond with this, take it out of the spam arena by reading the article and then replying with at least 100 words referencing to part of the article.
Would you classify the above as the wrong way about it? I know some say no-follow links (most blog comments out there) don't count but when I see the external link pop up in WMT it does make me think no-follow links count for something.
Cheers

Thanks for reply.
That put some confidence in my commenting activity.
Anchor text titles worry me a little because if I spend the time writing a nice comment I wouldn't want it to be removed. I look at it as if I was running a blog, if someone placed an anchor text title on the comment I would straight away assume they was posting for one reason.
Although I would love to gain a few more anchor text links this way.
Thanks.

You seem to be doing it just right.
I would also use some kewyords in the title to deversify and sometimes a link inside the comment itself (when possible/allowed)
No-follow links are backlinks, they just pass very little if any linkjuice.
To have a natural looking link profile, you need to have a decent proportion of nofollow links, so they are usefull for this reason at the very least.

The better my blog gets, the lower my rankings!
My blog was hit by Google Panda on July 21. My rankings dropped dramatically overnight. Nothing I do is helping. In fact, the day my guest post was published on one of the biggest blogs in my niche (DA over 70) my Google impressions dropped to an all time low and then got worse. (250 impressions and 12 clicks) You can see the first drop and the second drop in these screenshots and yes Google Webmasters and Google Analytics match. http://tinypic.com/r/2dvtvlj/5 http://tinypic.com/r/4u83t4/5 I am getting more fans, subscribers, traffic etc but my Google traffic just gets worse. I would really like to get some organic traffic! But I have no idea why this is happening. I checked manual actions and there is nothing. I cleaned up crawl errors and duplicate content. I get several backlinks a week within my niche from high authority sites. I just don't get it and I am very discouraged. What should I do?

Url variables, page rank and canonical question
Hello.
Link Building | | adrianTNT
I am having some back-links to my site that look like: http://site.com/page.html**?source=a**
http://site.com/page.html**?source=b** I assume these two will have two different ranks, is this issue fixed if I use canonical on the landing page? Thank you.0 -
Moving off page blog to on page blog
Hi, I was using free wordpress blog and i have around 18-20 content on the blog. Now, we've managed to have blog on our main website which has www.mysite.com/blog extension. We did this so we could create more links on the website/ I am a little unsure how to move the blog now. Should we copy & paste the blog articles from old blog to new one and remove them from old blog? I am just not quite sure how would it effect the links. If i keep the old articles on the old blog and create new articles for the new one, it'll take me a while before i get them written. Any recommendation appreciated. Thanks

Blog's Homepage isn't indexed even though posts are
My blog http://www.cleanedison.com/blog/ doesn't seem to be indexed by Google even though my posts seem to get indexed within a day or so. Is this not necessarily a bad thing? I feel like it would be nice to search "CleanEdison Blog" and get the homepage. The robots say: name="robots" content="noodp, noydir, noarchive" /> Is there anything I can do? P.S. My posts that get picked up by larger entities generally get ranked lower than the offshoot even though I have a rel="canonical" tag. Anything I can do there?

Moving content archive from a new blog to a mature content website?
I'm working with a publisher who has a young blog that is 6 mos old and is considering folding it and moving it's archive of content into a relavent, more mature website. This blog already has numerous links directing readers to this more mature website. My question is would it make more sense to leave the blog in place and continue to publish new posts and benefit from the link relationship with the mature website? Considering the blog is relatively new, would it matter much if we folded and moved it's archive?

Question on term and what to target next? Nice dilemma to have!
Guys, I have an interesting dilemma that the team here is discussing and wanted your input here is the situation: 1. We had our home page rank for a key word 4-5 on google for the past 2 years. 2. About 5 weeks ago, the home page and a sub page began ranking on top 10 for the same term. 3. Today, the sub-page a "What is page" ranks 3-5 on google and the home page is dropped somewhere like 22 or so now ** I believe I should begin redirecting that anchor text to the sub page, and maybe even some or all of our internal anchor texts to this page... Any recommendations? The home page is optimized to help get conversions, so we hate to 'give up' on that term, but any one run into this? What did you do? Thanks Community SEOMOZ! for any input...

Duplicate Content, Replicated Websites, Noindex Type Question.. Need Advice Please
So I am working for a Multi-Level Marketing Company. The members each get their own website which is a wilcard subdomain. So we have example.com (Main site) mysite.example.com (Replicated) They both are literally the same content and I have chosen to noindex, nofollow the subdomains, but as a SEO that presents a problem with linkbuilding. However, the member only gets credit (think affiliates) if the click comes from their subdomain. I don't want duplicate content penalties and I don't want the members to possibly lose out on a sale that would otherwise just be credited to the company if the link was redirected to the main site instead. Did I make the right decision?
