Google shows the wrong domain for client's homepage
-
Whenever the homepage of my client's homepage appears in Google results, the search engine is not showing our URL as our domain, but instead a partner domain that is linking to us. (The correct title and meta description of our homepage is showing.)
I believe this is caused by the partner website (with a much higher pank rank) linking to our homepage from their footer to a URL with it's own domain that 302 redirects to our homepage.
Example:
Link: http://www.partnerwebsite.com/?ad2203
302 redirects to: http://www.clientwebsite.com/?moreadtracking
The simple fix would be for the client to ask for removal of the 302 hijacking link - but they are uncomfortable with this request since they had requested it prior, and their relationship is not the best.
Is there any other way to fix this?

Fascinating... Thanks for the follow-up; it's good to hear, albeit troubling that it took Google so long.

thanks Rand - just today, I noticed Google is finally back to displaying the correct URL. We didn't do anything in particular to fix this so looks like it took about three weeks for Google to self-correct it.

You should be able to manually outrank them simply by building up links, trust signals, social data, etc. to the original domain. That said, I'd probably also post about this in the Webmaster Help forum at Google and maybe submit something through your Webmaster Tools reconsideration request system, too. Google has said these 302 hijacks are very rare nowadways, but that they do want to know about them.

Majority of pages show the error and are not indexed by Google...Not sure why this is happening. The page below in search console shows the error above...

Google is indexing our old domain
We changed our primary domain from vivitecsolutions.com to vivitec.net. Google is indexing our new domain, but still has our old domain indexed too. The problem is that the old site is timing out because of the https: Thought on how to make the old indexing go away or properly forward the https?

How do you 'close down' a website?
Hello all, If a company acquires a smaller company and 'absorbs' its products and services into its own website, what is the protocol with closing down the smaller company's site? So far we added our branding to the site alerting their visitors to the imminent takeover, and 301 redirected certain pages - soon we'll be redirecting all the pages to their counterparts on the main website. Once that's done, should we noindex the old site? Anything else? Thanks, Caro

Does removing product listings help raise SERP's on other pages?
Does removing content ever make sense? We have out of stock products that are left on the site (in an out of stock section) specifically for SEO value, but I am not sure how to approach the problem from a bottom line conversion stand point. Do we leave out of stock products and hope that they turn into a conversion rate via cross selling, or do out of stock products lower the value of other pages by "stealing" link juice and pagerank from the rest of the site? (and effectively driving interest away) What is your perspective? Do you believe that any content that is related or semi-related to your main focus is beneficial, or does it only make sense to have strong content that has a higher rate of conversion and overall site engagement?

Do any short url's pass link juice? googles own? twitters?
I've read a few posts saying not shorten links at all but we have a lot to tweet and need to. Is googles shortener the best option? I've considered linking to the category index page the article is on and expect the user to find the article and click on the article, I don't like the experience that creates though. I've considered making the article permalink tiny but I would lose the page title being in the url. Is this the best option?
