Are you still seeing success with EMD's?
-
I am curious if any other SEO's are still seeing success with exact matching domains.
I am not seeing ANY changes to any of my clients rankings since the "Exact Match Domain" filter came about in September.
Also while I have conducted SERP audits in my neck of the woods I am noticing EMD's are still doing very well.
What are you seeing?
-
One of my EMD's is outranking my main site for a low competitive keyword without much of a link profile at all. It's a very simple site only one page, but has very unique content. It was more of a site to just play with, but for not much work it ranks first for the phrase over about 10 other sites that appear to be optimizing to the keyword.
-
Same - EMDs that have real content and a real site are doing fine. EMD "penalty" if you want to call it that, affected more the people who are just putting up simple microsites or filler/fluff sites on emds.
The biggest thing I've seen affect EMD is domain age. Domains over a year or two old seem unaffected. New EMDs with under a year left on their registration have been slammed hard. EMDs with thin content are definitely under the gun. But anything "real" seems unaffected or only minor hits here & there.
-
From what I have seen, Google turned down the EMD benefit in February 2011.
Spammy EMDs were tweaked back a couple months ago (let's say those on the border of a Panda problem or a Penguin problem).
But if you have an EMD with good content the domain still gives you some advantage.
When I use "EMD" I am referreing to domains like DigitalCameras.com and not to domains like SamsDigitalCameras.com for the "digital cameras" querry.

Website's server IP address is redirected to blog by mistake; does Google responds?
Hi all, Our website's server IP address is set to be redirected to our blog by mistake and it stayed same for months. Is there any way Google recognises it and how it responds if so? Thanks

Is it possible (or advisable) to try to rank for a keyword that is 'split' across subfolders in your url?
For example, say your keyword was 'funny hats' - ideally you'd make your url 'website.com/funny-hats/' But what if 'hats' is already a larger category in your site that you want to rank for as its own keyword? Could you then try to rank for 'funny hats' using the url 'website.com/hats/funny/' ? Basically what I'm asking is, would it be harmful to the chances of ranking for your primary keyword if it's split across the url like this, and not necessarily in the correct order?

URL in SERP: Google's stand
Months back, we can notice "keyword" will be bold and highlighted if its in the SERP URL. Now Google no more highlights any URLs even with exact match of keyword we search. Beside UI, Does this mean Google might devalued or reduced the importance of URL as ranking factor? We can see many search results match partially or completely in URL with search keywords.

Can hreflang tags still work when the Alternate URL is 301 redirecting to a translated URL in Japanese Characters?
My organization has several international sites 4 of them of which have translated URLs in either Japanese, Traditional Chinese, German & Canadian French. The hreflang tags we have set up on our United States look something like this: But when you actually go to http://www.domain.co.jp/it-security/ you are 301 redirected to the translated URL version: www.domain.co.jp/it-セキュリティ/

My question is, will Google still understand that the translated URL is the Alternate URL, or will this present errors? The hreflang tags are automated for each of our pages and would technically be hard to populate the hreflang with the translated URL version. However we could potentially make the hreflang something customized on a page level basis.0 -

Example: A. http://disavowexample.com B. http://www.disavowexample.com Which one does Google prefer? I know for some I just find the canonical url of the page (which show www,) but wanted your expert advice! Thanks

Guides to determine if a client's website has been penalized?
Has anyone come across any great guides to pair with client data to help you determine if their website has been penalized? I'm also not talking about an obvious drop in traffic/rankings, but I want to know if there's a guide out there for detecting the subtleties that may be found in a client's website data. One that also helps you take into account all the different variables that may not be related to the engines. Thanks!

Do scraped or borrowed articles with my links still pass page rank?
I wrote some articles for Ezine Articles a few years back and i still see links in the ose to my site that are from these articles that were borrowed from the Ezine Articles bank. Do the links in these articles still count toward my site including link juice and anchor text or does google discount them as duplicate content? I was told that Google counts these links for about 3 weeks and then discounts them as duplicate content so it's like they don't exist. Any truth to this or should i make the articles on my site available for people to copy and paste into their blogs as long as they keep my links intact? Thanks, Ron

Are you seeing changes in your sites today? Panda 2.2?
I've heard rumblings of some Panda sites recovering in the last few days and wondered if the talked about Panda 2.2 has been rolled out. My own site (which actually had a significant boost after Panda) has seen a significant increase in traffic today (started about noon EST yesterday) and a nice increase in Adsense revenue as well. How are your sites doing?
