Competitor in 70% of results?
-
I'm trying to rank in the UK for a keyword where one of the competitors takes up around 70% of the top 100 positions. How is that possible? Is this google really giving the most relevant results to searchers? I can't think that a user wants to be presented with the same site on nearly all of the top 10 pages?
-
Maybe they will eventually fix the algo... who knows?!
-
They are number 4 also so I would presume so.
-
Do you know if they're really getting much traffic if they're not ranking much until the fourth page? Most people don't go beyond the first page of results.
-
The keyword is f**k buddy in the results of Google UK and the competitor is f-buddy dot co dot uk. The first 3 pages of results are fine but on page 4 it starts to take up all the positions. Been monitoring it for about a month and no change.

Like Gordon, I've seen short term problems like this, however here in the U.S. I've also seen some situations where one site takes up that much and stays that way for weeks or months. This has been a problem mostly in the past six months or so, but I've also seen it from time to time over the past year. The reason? I believe it's one of the many reflections that Google is far from perfect in their multiple layers of algorithms. Just my opinion and I have not ever gotten an official response back as to why.

How long have you been tracking your competitors results? I ask because I've been on the receiving end - I've had a site I was working on take up all but 2 positions in the top 150 spaces.
However, google soon sorted that out - and whilst the site still ranks no1 for many of it's keywords, after a couple of weeks, most of the positions had disappeared.
If you've been watching the rankings for months however and it's still the same, then I;m not sure - can you post the domain and keyword?

Parked domain is first in search results
We have several brand related domains which are parked and pointing to our main website. Some of these websites are redirecting using a 302 (don't ask, that's a whole other story), but these are being changed. But it shouldn't matter what type of redirect they are no? Since there has never been any traffic and they are not indexed? But it seems that one of them was indexed: exotravel.vn. A search for our brand name or the previous brand name (exotravel and exotissimo) brings up this parked domain first! How can that be? The domain has never been used and has no backlinks. exotravel.vn is redirecting and I submitted a change of address weeks ago to Google, but its still coming up first in all brand name searches for exotissimo or exotravel.

Not showing the right results in Google.de
Hi Moz, I have a question concerning Vintykids.com.
Technical SEO | | B.Great
The site comes in four languages: German on vintykids.com/de Dutch on vintykids.com/nl English on vintykids.com/en French on vintykids.com/fr The German language gives a problem. In Google.de (German Google) the site is completely indexed in German but we also see results in Dutch. So when you do a search in Google.de on their brandname (Vintykids) we see results in Dutch on vintykids.com.
We think we have set the meta's right in the German language on vintykids.com/de and we also managed some links to Vintykids.com/de from good quality and relevant German sites. What can we do further to get vintykids.com/de ranking in Google.de on the brandname? Thank you.0 -

Higher PA score not reflected in google results - Redirect Issue ?
We have a redirect on our site at www.subsidesports.com to www.subsidesports.com/uk. Checking both home page scores in OSE, the .com/uk site has a higher PA and other metrics than .com yet all Home Page SERPS listed in Google still show .com with the lower PA and other metrics although the DA score of course is the same for both. Are we doing anything wrong here ? As part of my troubleshooting performed a redirect check using <http://www.ragepank.com/redirect-check/> and received the following error report: http://www.subsidesports.com/index.html returns a 200 (OK) response. PR N/A http://subsidesports.com/index.html returns a 200 (OK) response. PR N/A Potential problems on this site 2 pages returned a 200 response. This indicates potential for duplicate content problems. Ideally, only http://www.subsidesports.com OR http://subsidesports.com should return a 200 response. Are these two issues related and perhaps answered my own question ?
