Blog Benefits
-
I read a very interesting answer by Andy Solo to a previous question in which he replied:
"Use your blog to create some Tips & How-To's, optimize those blog entries for the long tail keywords and soon enough your blog will be the gateway into your website.
Learn how to target longl-tail keyword searches and how to analyze keyword competition to find the right niche blog posts to create".
With my own company site, www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk which has a long-standing blog attached, www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog I always felt that the blog content greatly aided our top positions in Google.co.uk.
However, over the last 12 months we have slipped right down page one and I wondered if the blog is still helping our site or if the emphasis/value has switched and Google is looking at a lot of other factors where we score badly?

Thanks Andy.

Don't worry too much about the EMD update Colin as this only really comes into effect if someone has a site named the same as a search term, but doesn't have anything much in terms of content to offer.

Thanks Andy.
I think the Panda and Penguin updates might have affected us and worry about the website name containing the main search term, although there is little I can do about that.
I think that my SEO efforts are being maintained but I will take your advice and look more closely at what I'm doing.
Thanks for your help.

If you are noticing a slip Colin, it might help to see if this coincides with an algorithm update. Rarely will a site drop in the SERPs for no reason, and having a blog isn't going to do this on its own.
Have you had a look for issues that might relate to Panda or Penguin? How much SEO have you been doing? Do you think you might have been trying too hard?
It can also be because other sites are performing SEO while you have just been writing blog posts, you might have missed an update that required some additional work.
There are so many possibilities why this can be, but it is always worth starting with a look at the ones that cause the most issues.

URL Structure for Blog
Hi guys, Hope you are all doing well today. I have a questions with regards to our blog URL structure. The URL for the blog is /blog - however when you click on a blog post the "/blog" disappears completely and is replaced by the title of the post. So it is ".com/title-of-post" for example. Would it be better to keep the blog subdomain in the URL so it is ".com/blog/title-of-article" Any insight would be appreciated. My thoughts are that surely the second option above is ideal? Thanks Tom

How long should a quality blog post be?
How long should a "quality" blog post be? General advice seems to be that a 300 word post just won't cut it, but advice on the optimum length is vague. I appreciate that all posts are different but is there a rule of thumb, is 1000 words good and 1500 too long...or should they are all aim to be 2000 words? Also with regards to pictures in blogs, can they just be taken from the web or are there sites that I should be using to source the pictures? Thanks

Sourcing content and images for Office Interior Design Blog
Im currently building a blog on Wordpress, and I will be blogging about Office Interior Designs. When I look at my competition they have some great blog posts about office interior designs and I have no idea about how they get: a) The ideas to blog about, how do they find out about these office interior designs b) how they get the content for them, how do they know what to write about each one, do they need permission etc, c) if i am interested in doing a blog on the same office interior design as them, how can I get information )and permission from the company that done the office interior design) on the office interior design so i can blog about it and also how do i get the images and stuff. an example is http://www.officedesignblog.com/invensys-rail-office-concept/726/ I would like to cover this aswell, as i think my future readers would like to know about this. how did they get the images, and the information about the project so they could write a blog post about it? And how would I go about doing the same thing?
