Moving from a .com to .co.uk
-
I need to migrate a wordpress site from domainname.com to domainname.co.uk.
If I just put a 301 on every page on the .com will that cover it?
Would it make sense to go and change all the backlinks/profile links to the new .co.uk site or doesn't it matter if you have a 301 redirect on it?
Thanks

Thank you, very much appreciate you responses.

Hi Joanne,
We did the same thing recently for a client who wanted to move from a .com to a .co.uk. She had a well-established website. Our methodology:
- Create exactly the same URL structure and architecture.
- Copy the exact same content over to each URL
- Notify all websites linking to any pages to update (We actually did this part well in advance).
- Notified Google via its webmaster tools that we are migrating to a new website. You can use their new site section to notify them.
- 301 redirected every page of the old site to its new equivalent page.
The sit back and wait, we found the changeover within the SERPS fairly fast – there were a few hiccups while waiting for Google to fully update, however it worked and all PageRank now on site and older positions are almost all regained.
Hope that helps.

Hi Joanne,
When taking such a decision I always read through again and again the article from Google: https://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=83105
Ideally it would be good to contact each webmaster and ask them to change the url from the .com to the .co.uk, but realistic that is almost impossible.
What I would do is download through OpenSiteExplorer all the incoming links, check in general which are the most important for me and at least contact those webmasters and tell them about the change of address.
I hope it helps.

I keep getting crawl errors for urls that have email addresses on the end. I have no idea what these are. Here is an example: the-audio-visual-system/[email protected] Where would these be coming from, how are they created? How can i fix them? When I try to do a 301 redirect it doesn't work. Thanks for your help,

Would merging a site with strong DA with one that has weak DA be a smart move?
I am working on a project for a client that has two ecommerce sites each with several thousands of products. Site A has a strong DA, is ranking well on Google for thousands of competitive keywords and generating high traffic and conversions. Site B has a poor DA, ranking poorly and much less traffic. We are considering the idea of merging the 5,000+ product pages from site B into site A. How can we evaluate whether this would be a wise move with the least risk to site A?

Moving to New Domain - Ranking impact
I understand that when migrating to a new site, even if done perfectly (page level 301s etc) that rankings will drop in the short term and each site will be impacted differently. I picked up the following comment and was wanting to get a few experts thoughts on whether I can quote this to my client: "In our experience, even when 301's are correctly executed, we see a short term fall back (7-30) days and then about a 90% carry through after that period for about 90 days and then back to full strength. Redirect Impact - Moving From SEOmoz to Moz
Hey Guys, This has been on my mind ever since the big announcement, so today I did some searching around for some posts/talk about what the impact of their full site redirect has been for them and didn't find anything. Have they posted on this or are there any threads that I'm missing out on? I'd love to hear more about what the impact has been or any general thoughts/insights people may have. Thanks!

Duplicate Content in Wordpress.com
Hi Mozers! I have a client with a blog on wordpress.com. http://newsfromtshirts.wordpress.com/ It just had a ranking drop because of a new Panda Update, and I know it's a Dupe Content problem. There are 3900 duplicate pages, basically because there is no use of noindex or canonical tag, so archives, categories pages are totally indexed by Google. If I could install my usual SEO plugin, that would be a piece of cake, but since Wordpress.com is a closed environment I can't. How can I put a noindex into all category, archive and author peges in wordpress.com? I think this could be done by writing a nice robot.txt, but I am not sure about the syntax I shoud use to achieve that. Thank you very much, DoMiSol Rossini

A rel="canonical" to www.homepage.com/home.aspx Hurts my Rank?
Hello, The CMS that I use makes 3 versions of the homepage:
Technical SEO | | EvolveCreative
www.homepage.com/home.aspx homepage.com homepage.com/default.aspx By default the CMS is set to rel=canonical all versions to the www.homepage.com/home.aspx version. If someone were to link to a website they most likely aren't going to link to www.homepage.com/home.aspx, they'll link to www.homepage.com which makes that link juice flow through the canonical to www.homepage.com/home.aspx right? Why make that extra loop at all? Wouldn't that be splitting the juice? I know 301's loose 1-5 % juice, but not sure about canonical. I assume it works the same way? Thanks! http://yoursiteroot/0
