Blog Sub-Domaine on Other Server, Is This Possible???
-
My eCommerce cart is BigCommerce. It is not possible to use my domain name to add a blog on there server.
I would like to create a blog on a sub-domain, something like:
http://www.furnacefilterscanada.com/blog/
Is it possible to host this sub-domain on another server? Host this sub-domiane to BlueHost for example and keep my domaine to BigCommerce.
If YES, I would like to buy a Word Press theme and start a blog on this sub-domain:
http://www.furnacefilterscanada.com/blog/
Thank you,
BIgBlaze

You're right about him referring to what is actually a subdirectory, Woody, but then you go and confuse him by calling blog.furnacefilterscanada.com a subdirectory too, when in fact that IS actually a subdomain. Oops!
And as I mention in my other comment, what Jean wants to do is typically accomplished using a reverse proxy, so it is definitely do-able.

What you are talking about here is a subdirectory, Jean, not a subdomain.
Depending on your hosting and systems configurations, this can accomplished using something called a reverse proxy. Here's a SEOMoz post about it from last year.
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/what-is-a-reverse-proxy-and-how-can-it-help-my-seo
This method is very effective, but it is not trivial to implement. You'll need someone with strong server expertise to make sure both your hosting accounts have the capabilities and access necessary to make this work, and to get it configured correctly. (It will be slightly easier given that you're just starting the blog, not reverse-proxying an existing one.)

Hey Jean,
http://www.furnacefilterscanada.com/blog/ is not a sub-domain, its simply a subdirectory(folder) on the root domain. Therefore WordPress would need to be installed on current ecommerce host server.
if that's not possible your only option is to setup a sub-directory sub-domain (thanks for spotting typo Paul T) like http://blog.furnacefilterscanada.com/ then it's totally separate site which can be installed on a different server.
hope that helps,
woody

2 Domains, 1 Brand - Content Marketing Strategy Question
I have a customer that has two separate locations for the same business on two different URLs (both connected via Landing Page). I cannot change this. They are in the powersports industry (snowmobiles, ATVs, motorcycles, dirt bikes, etc). The locations are about 10 miles from one another, essentially sell the same brands & products (there are 1 or 2 exceptions), have the same target audience (local & from out-of-state), and have the same goals. They currently rank #1 and #2 for their industry in their area. They now want a content marketing strategy. I face limitations with the CMS (no blog abilities and technical issues that are out of my control), and content marketing can really only consist of custom graphics & custom page creation. Typically, custom pages are utilized by creating Brand Pages describing the major brands to built out authority in those categories, and then try to branch out from there to create individual product-category pages with more unique content to answer more of a question based on the intent. I am very concerned about creating content that will be too similar between the two locations and will thus compete with the other location, so I am thinking I should devise a completely different strategy for 1 location over the other. Is that a good idea? I think with the smaller location, I choose the typical route of creating brand pages, product pages, etc, and then with the bigger location, try to focus on unique content such as buyer's guide, local SEO ideas about the area, FAQs, testimonials, etc. Thoughts/ideas?

Best way to get my Blog traffic
I've recently began blogging on my site. The content is all unique and useful and written properly without keyword stuffing... My question is, how do i go about getting people to see the blog (getting traffic to it) so that it can get linked to. I've created content that i believe people will naturally link to, the only problem is they're not finding my blog. Any advice on how to get my blog out into the world?! thanks

mycompany.wordpress.com & Our news page - typically more newsworthy than the blog
mycompany.com/news My question is, It is okay to just copy the exact text from my wordpress blog and paste to my news area of my site and vice versa? Does this hurt ranking potential for either page?0 -

Sub directory vs sub domain for company blog
My company's blog is currently a sub directory - www.site/blog.com but for technical ease we are considering changing it to a sub domain - www.blog.site.com. What are the SEO ramifications of each? Thank you! Best, Sara

Blog at blogspot
Hi My website provider doesnt yet have the function to integrate blog under my domain name so the blog is at blogspot. Inevitably there will be quite some links going from blog to differnet pages on my site. I havent yet incorporated a clickable link from my homepage to blog. I am not sure wether to do this or not. Will this just reduce the value of the links going from the blog ? Thanks
