I wrote this blog, now what can I do?
-
Morning Guys
As part of a bigger SEO Project I am writing some blog posts. I am trying to use information we have based on shopping habits within our store.
So I have written this first blog post:
http://blog.uniquemagazines.co.uk/2013/03/top-10-womens-magazines-purchased-as.html
What can I do with my blog now to get more exposure? I have submitted our blog to a couple of RSS directory lists. I also created a pintrest board, and announced the blog post on our facebook and twitter accounts.
I am hoping to do 1 of these bigger posts per week, and this took me about 3-4 hours to research the stats and compile the information, so obviously the more I can get out of it the better. Also, I am hoping over a number of weeks I can identify what sort of content relates best to our customers/browsers.
Thanks
Paul

Honestly Paul when it comes to infographics, I'd concentrate on them only if you think "yes - this would definitely work" or if you have the time to give to it. There's no point, especially now, doing a half-hearted one.
Finding those bloggers can be tricky, but there are a couple of great tools to help you. Moz's own Fresh Web Explorer and Followerwonk can help search blogs and twitter profiles for key terms. I'm a fan of IceRocket as well, which also searches blogs. You could also find a few listed on Technorati.
As for Glamour - for sure, they may not be that keen. The flip-side is that you're pretty much a free marketing channel for them (you do the marketing yourself) and so a quick contribution to give the post gravitas could be appealing. Doesn't have to be glamour either of course, could be anyone on the list.
You could also mention the research on marketing blogs by helping to contribute to them. My Blog Guest is another avenue to find certain kinds of blogs.

Hi Tom
Thanks for taking the time to help me. I like your ideas. It's good to get input from someone with fresh eyes.
I hadn't thought about outreaching to Glamour, because we are a third party agent who sell subscriptions on behalf of the publishers of Glamour. In effect we supply them with supplementary subscription orders, in addition to those they get themselves, so I think they would be unlikely to want to push people to us. However, they may like to link to that content, as it puts a fresh spin on their title. I will look into that.
I like the idea about speaking to other bloggers. Would you suggest opening with asking them what they think of the blog, and what they think about this topic of buying a magazine as a gift? What's the best way to find these people? Search for fashion blogs, twitter accounts etc?
Infographics, I have mused on these for a while. They are all the rage, but I often wonder what percentage of total infographics actually become wide spread. Therefore is it worth the time and effort creating one? I might spend an hour or 2 playing with the idea and if it looks good I will add that to our blog also.
Thanks again
Paul

Hi Paul
Perhaps you could outreach to a few people. Obvious choice would be Glamour magazine themselves. I think this would be great PR for them - if you could contact them and say that you're running with an idea like "Give the Gift of Glamour" they may pick up on it.
You could also incentivise it. Contact them for a feature and say that you would be prepared to give away a free 3/6 month subscription to someone in their readership. A requirement might be to create the most creative pin on your pinterest board, a quick blog post/social media message on why they love Glamour/like giving Glamour away and so on. Quite a big giveaway, but then again the readership is likely to be very big and the potential exposure could outweigh the cost significantly.
Do you know any fashion bloggers, or could you research them? Ask them to contribute to the article - why do they think the magazines rank where they are? Is it a price factor? Quality? Asking them for a few quotes could create exposure to your site if they mention it on their social media or blog page (a bit of egobait if you will).
Doesn't have to be those kind of bloggers either - maybe you could ask someone in marketing research/insight what they think as well.
Do you think this post could translate into an infographic. They don't come cheap I know and they have been a bit overdone, but if you can see it quite quickly it might be worth pursuing. Sites like http://www.easel.ly/ and http://infogr.am/ are free, so have a play around there.
The key thing is that your content is of a very good quality and its very thorough. It should be received well if you outreach this around, so try giving that a go.
Hope these ideas get the creative juices flowing!

Using different sections from all over your site to compile a blog post, bad idea or ok to do?
I have a large site that sells various products, I have been on a kick creating new content relating to the many aspects of upkeep with these products after purchase, I wanted to create a blog post combining all the info for the group of products, but will be reusing some of the FAQs and even tips, since I'm more or less relocating the info. Since this blog post is using many different sources on our site, using a rel=canonical isn't possible. Is there anything I should watch out for, Will rewording / phrasing here and there be enough or should I steer clear of this as a whole?

Hi guys, We plan to close down our blog, which is a subdomain to our anchor site. I need advice on how to keep the link juice and its SEO value. Is it better to 301 redirect the blog to the homepage of our site, or just 404 all the pages of the blog? Thanks

Should a business blog be on a separate site or on the ecommerce site itself?
Hey there. I'm a new Pro member and this will be my first question on the Q&A. Thanks in advance for your responses. I'm the owner of an ecommerce site that sells custom candles. www.prometheancandle.com in case anyone wants to take a peak. I've become somewhat of an expert on all-things-candles over the past 4 years and I am thinking about starting a candle related blog. My question is this. Should I build this blog on the ecommerce site itself, say @ www.prometheancandle.com/blog.php, or should I devote a separate site to answering candle related question, history of candles, etc? At first, I was thinking that the blog should remain on the ecommerce site so readers would have easy access to the shop to be able to purchase products. But then it occurred to me that people who may be interested in reading up on candle history, candle making, meditation & candles, etc., may not want to go to an obviously ecommerce site to do that. I know Google values informational sites more than ecommerce sites (at least I think they do), so that encourages me to lean towards the separate site. Well, I may have just answered this question myself, but I'd definitely be interested to hear feedback and opinions. Thanks so much guys and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best places to get pictures for blog posts?
Well I'm really sick of reading people questions saying "help my sites been affected by penguin" So I thought I would ask something about blogging, where is the best place to find and buy pictures for blog posts? I already use Wikimedia commons. But I'm interested websites that have a bigger range that aren't too pricey. What do you recommend?

Should I publish several blog posts at once or stagger?
I have several blog posts that I want to publish (40 or so). For freshness is it better to stagger their publication over several months or is it fine to publish them all at the same time. The comments are closed.

Duplicate Content on WordPress Blogs?
We are getting ready to add a WordPress blog to our established website. Our plans are to place it in a subfolder on our website to maximize rank. My question is...Do we need to utilize a Meta Robots WordPress plugin by Yoast or similar so that noindex, follow robots meta tags will prevent search engine indexing of search result pages, subpages and category archives? We want to avoid the dreaded Duplicate Content Error and penalty. Any other great SEO WordPress plugins? Thank you for your time. Brian
