Looking for feedback about "look-ahead" navigation
-
Our company has been creating websites where the navigation is developed in such a way as to allow the visitor to get a preview of the image and/or content on that is on the page. Here are two websites that use this technology:
http://www.uniquepadprinting.com/
http://www.empathia.com/ (On this site, the previews are only available if you click on "Whole", "Productive" or "Safe" at the top of the page.I'm looking for feedback such as:
- What do you call this type of navigation (We call it look-ahead, but I can't find much info that term on the web)
- Have you experienced any issues with this type of navigation?
- Do you have any recommendations on it?
Some of the things we've seen are:
- It adds the same content to every page of the website
- It creates a lot of internal links
- It can create a lot of code on pages
- It can slow page-load times
-
I think developers think too much about how their code impacts search results. It's the visual content that is most important to google. As long as it can crawl it, you're generally in good shape with the code.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your response. I'm glad you like the look; I agree it can be a cool addition. However, I was surprised that you stated the sites don't add much code. If you take a closer look at the code of any of the interior pages of Unique Pad Printing, for example, you will see that the navigation takes up over 200 lines of code. Original content doesn't appear until you get to line 411 of the code.
Compare this to another site, such as http://www.industrialvacuum.com. The navigation only takes 30 lines of code, and original content appears in line 124.

I'm not sure it does any of those things. It does create additional code but not much. I think it's kind of cool. Would be nice if the display block were clickable, though.

Please let me know if I am in a right direction with fixing rel="canonical" issue?
While doing my website crawl, I keep getting the message that I have tons of duplicated pages.

http://example.com/index.php and http://www.example.com/index.php are considered to be the duplicates. As I figured out this one: http://example.com/index.php is a canonical page, and I should point out this one: http://www.example.com/index.php to it. Could you please let me know if I will do a right thing if I put this piece of code into my index.php file?
? Or I should use this one:0 -
I'm looking for a good SEO
I need someone that can help me with my SEO. I am too busy to do it and the last person that did it, I really feel didn't do a good job. Please message me (If that is possible). I am looking for on-page, probably disavowing a good bit of links, and anything else that someone can point me in the right direction to do. I'm having some pretty major issues with my guy right now and I just feel like my rankings are falling off of the map because of it. Thanks!

Is "commented out" text still read by the SEs?
A site I reviewed was showing up in Google rankings for key phrases specific to a city, however the page that was showing up had the 'city' key phrases commented out. Does Google still read and utilized commented out text? Or is it more likely that the page in question got indexed before the key phrases were commented out and it's just still appearing for the related search queries?

What to do with "show all" page
Hello, What should I do with the following situation: In e-commerce shop I have an option to "show all products" (list all products in one page) - do I need to put canonnical or 301 redirect to somewhere or should I leave as normal page - I think google consider this is as duplicate since everything is the same (only number of products is different) ? Regards, Nenad

Why does it say I have a page with 106 links, but when I look there are only like 4?
Looking through my first crawl results and there is a page showing with 106 or so links. I clicked into the post and there are only 3 links and maybe 10 photos from Flickr. I have no clue how 106 popped up. Can you explain?

Custom Permalinks (aka alias') - does it look spammy to googlebot?
I am moving my whole site over to wordpress (150+pgs). In the process I assigned pages to appropriate parent pages via "page attributes". I was really excited about this. I like how it organizes everything in the pages dashboard. I also think that the sitemap that comes with my theme can create something really great for visitors with this info. What I realized after doing that is that it changed my url to include the parent page. Basically, the url is now "domain.com/parent-page/child-page.html". This is rather disasterous because the url's of these newly created child pages on my old site are simple "domain.com/child-page". Not that they're defined as parent or child pages on my existing dreamweaver/html site... but you know what I mean - Right?! I got a plugin called "Permalink Editor" to let me customize the url. So, I went through all of the child pages and got rid of the parent page in the url. Then when I woke up this morning I realized that what I've created is a "permalink alias". That sounds a little bit scary to me. Perhaps like google could consider it spam and like I'm trying to "sculpt link flow". I'm not... I'm just trying to recreate my site as it is in wordpress. I want the site to be exactly the same in terms of the url's. But, I want the many benefit's of wordpress' CMS. Should I go an unassign all of the parent/child pages in the "Page Attributes". Or, am I being paranoid and should I leave it as is? fyi - this is the first page that came up with I searched for permalink alias. It looks kind of black-hatty to me?!

TLD - ".com.br" X ".com" which to use?
Hello I'm starting an SEO work on a site that has the domain "www.dominiodocliente.com" and "www.dominiodocliente.com.br." The problem is that the domain name. ".com" already has a low rank for keywords chosen as the domain "Com.br" has no rank. On the other hand, the domain ". Com" has 224 results in google as the domain "Com.br" has 1970 results. My question is: Which domain should I focus on SEO work? Tks
