Category Descriptions if Category Pages are Noindexed?

I have noindexed my category pages. Do I still need to write a description for my categories? I am using the plugin SEO Content Control to see what I can spiff up but I don't want to waste my time. Thank you!

Nope, you don't have to.

The noindex tag tells spiders not to index a certain page. Why would you add a meta description tag for something that won't show up in search engines ever?

I don't add descriptions to any of my noindexed pages.

It's not possible to add a keyword to the homepage url. Do we still add a secondary keyword along the primary one on the home page title and meta description etc. How do we make our primary keyword to dominate in this case. Thanks

Category Advice

Hello, Our website is http://crazymikesapps.com and it is approximately 4 3/4 years old. Ths app review and app video blog started out as a hobby and since 02/2011 it has been our full-time business. However, we have been plagued with poor SEO decisions made in the early years as well as horrible webmaster and blog management. We have been working very hard to correct all issues and started with a Yoast website audit 1 year ago. We implemented a site redesign and we are mostly happy with this for now. However, we experience a 70% to 75% bounce rate daily and we have just begun using best SEO practices for blog post creation and I feel like our category taxonomy is horrible. About 8 months ago I had 34,000 tags, which I deleted and now I believe we have around 34. I think we have gone the other way in using categories too much and we are under utilizing tags. The problem is we have 2 different operating systems iOS and Android for App Categories that are extensive, we have added numerous sub categories per our Yoast report, but for starters we are not all about games apps and have 40 to 50 game sub categories. My question is, looking at our Categories, would you suggest converting some into tags. Also we have a problem with iPhone Apps, iPad Apps, Android Apps, Kindle Fire Apps because we use these as tags for a filter feature for our app category pages. But, we also have Mobile Apps iPhone Apps, etc. as categories. Any advice would be great and sorry for the bloviating. thank you Mike

Is there anything wrong with having duplicate description tags if they are relevant to their pages?

I have duplicate description tags, but they make sense for the pages they're on. Is there anything wrong with this? Thanks for reading!

How is this page ranking?

Hi. A client of mine is being outranked by a competitor whose landing page does not include the keyword within their page content AT ALL. Nor does their URL. Nor do any image alts. And their page title features the keyword in the middle of it, not at the start. Their link profile is not great with directories and the like. They are not socially active.. I am confused! I thought content on a page absolutely had to include the keyword to get ranked for it. Here's the page: www.springsoft.ie, keyword is "water softeners" Any thoughts I would appreciate. Locating Duplicate Pages

Hi, Our website consists of approximately 15,000 pages however according to our Google Webmaster Tools account Google has around 26,000 pages for us in their index. I have run through half a dozen sitemap generators and they all only discover the 15,000 pages that we know about. I have also thoroughly gone through the site to attempt to find any sections where we might be inadvertently generating duplicate pages without success. It has been over six months since we did any structural changes (at which point we did 301's to the new locations) and so I'd like to think that the majority of these old pages have been removed from the Google Index. Additionally, the number of pages in the index doesn't appear to be going down by any discernable factor week on week. I'm certain it's nothing to worry about however for my own peace of mind I'd like to just confirm that the additional 11,000 pages are just old results that will eventually disappear from the index and that we're not generating any duplicate content. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a way to download a list of the 26,000 pages that Google has indexed so that I can compare it against our sitemap. Obviously I know about site:domain.com however this only returned the first 1,000 results which all checkout fine. I was wondering if anybody knew of any methods or tools that we could use to attempt to identify these 11,000 extra pages in the Google index so we can confirm that they're just old pages which haven’t fallen out of the index yet and that they’re not going to be causing us a problem? Ecommerce: content on category pages

I have to optimize some online Shops and after Panda I really don't know what to think about thin content on product overview pages anymore... used to be that we could improve our rankings easily just by adding 1-2 sentences on such a page. This always worked for non-overly competitive terms. Now It feels like it doesn't work any longer, but I couldn't put my finger on it and I don't have the resources to test. I would add max. 3 lines of text directly over the product thumbnails. What do you think? Is it worth adding some text on a product overview page or do I not even have to bother post-Panda?
