Is anyone using Media Temple?
-
I'm looking to move 5 of my sites from Hostgator's shared servers to Media Temple's dedicated virtual servers. Anyone have experience with (mt)?
I'm planning on adding a few more sites this year and several things they offer are attractive to me:
- A (virtually) dedicated environment: Faster websites, better user experience, plus I like having some control over my site's resources
- Scalability: I can add more resources easily (although not super cheap)
- Unique control panels for each site: More control for my tech savvy clients.
- Unique IPs for $1 a month: More linkjuice between my related sites.
$50/month is a big jump from my $12/month Hostgator account but I'm thinking it will be worth it.
Am I on the right track or is this a fool's errand?

Thanks for the insight guys. I'll give them a go.

I used MediaTemple for 2 years before moving hosting locally ($50 per month is cheap for Ireland!).
I have to say they were great, there was no downtime and the spec of the DV was immense.
The support was a little slow sometimes but I rarely needed them and I always got what I needed from them.
No question in mind for reliability which was my main concern.

I've had a very good experience with Media Temple over the past 2 years now. I have 3 DV servers with them all with Plesk. Give them a call if you can afford to buy 12 months service, they take 10% - 20% off. I got in trouble with godaddy dv hosting where my bandwidth usage went crazy a couple days and they billed me 6K without an alert or anything. They ended up taking $4500 off but the supervisor was a real jackazz to talk to. Anyway MT has been a dream so far, and they offer a better service then godaddy in my opinion by far.

Unique use of nofollow tag
Love the community here. I just had a quick question about the using noindex, nofollow. We are a car dealership group that uses a website provider (cobalt). Since they provide the website they are the only ones with access to remove pages etc. We can add pages but only they can remove them. There are some pages we need to have removed but according to them they are unable to remove them, (I think the manufacture might mandate having some pages), anyway some of these pages literally have nothing on them, and there isn't really any useful content we could add to them. So we are using noindex on them to ensure that they stay out of search indices, but I am wondering if we should also use nofollow on them. If I understand nofollow correctly it just means search engines won't follow the links on the page, well for most of these pages the only links on them are the navigation, and since we don't plan on adding any content to these pages and we can't remove them should we use noindex and nofollow as a way to "remove" them from the site as much as we can?

How important is using hreflang if u have plenty of other geo signals ?
HI How important is it to use the hreflang attributes and supporting sitemaps (and do you need both) ? Since if sites are being set up on country specific tlds (but on top of WP multisite network.domain.com environment) and geotargeted in GWT, as well as country meta tags and local schema etc etc that should send enough signals shouldnt it 🙂 ? Implementation of hreflang seems like an absolute technical nightmare All Best Dan

Will using tabs on my page for navigation hurt SEO
Currently we have tabs on some pages that are set so that the page shows all the content for search engines on one page, but the user sees only part of the content until they click a tab. We are unable to use title tags for the tabbed areas. We think this hurts us from an SEO standpoint. We are getting only 3 keyword where we could have 12 if they were individual pages. What is the thought on using tabs and is it okay? Has there been any case studies on this?

Has anyone used paid services to help improve their site
Hi, i am getting lots of spam in my mail box about how companies can help you get more traffic and i see on lots of sites about tools that can bring you more traffic and help improve your site, and i am just wondering if anyone has tried any of these services or products to help promote their site. For example, i keep getting sent about submitting my site to over 200 directories or search engines and just wondering if these are a waste of time.

Is it possibly to use anything besides a 302 re-direct when your doing a re-direct for someone to login?
Hopefully this makes sense. So I am working on a site that uses a 302 re-direct for logins. As in it goes from a profile page to the login via a re-direct, most of the time I see sites use this as a meta refresh, but in this case I wasn't sure. Obviously when I run a crawl diagnostic I'm getting a lot of errors as in over 100. Now I know there is no link juice with this, but I was just wondering what other people thought on using 302's for logins? Thanks
