Difference between SEOMOZ and Webmaster Tools information
-
Hello,
There is an issue that confuses me and I thought perhaps you will be able to help me shed some light on it.
I have a website which shows 2,549 crawled pages on SEOMOZ and 24,542 pages on webmaster tools!
Obviously there is some technical issue with the site, but my question is: why the vast difference between what the SEOMOZ crawl report and webmaster tools report show?
Thanks!

Thanks for stepping in everyone, though it looks like we were trying to answer the wrong question. This one is with Roger's crawl of the OP's own site, rather than links indexed in OSE.
Guy, do you have a feel for how many pages SHOULD be in the index? If you only have a couple of thousand pages, then it could be that Google is crawling and indexing some parameters. If you've got 20k+ pages in the index, then Roger isn't finding some things.
Also..are you looking at perhaps just the www.domain subdomain in SEOmoz and is GWT looking at the entire site? If you had a compact www.domain site, but then had forum.domain and wiki.domain, and GWT was reporting pages for all of the subdomains on domain.com, that would explain things too.

hello
thanks for all the replies.
the pages crawled are part of an SEO I am running.
How the crawl is done when a campaign is defined?
I assume all the site is being crawled.
thanks

This may also shed some light:
Oct 9, 2012 Keri Morgret On-site Community Manager at SEOmoz:
Another reason is that we just don't have the same size server farm that Google and Bing have. We could crawl all of Twitter and get nothing else crawled, or we could crawl some of Twitter, and some of the rest of the web. We aren't able to crawl all of the web, and we release a new index about once a month, so that's why you don't see all of your links or see them right away.
However, what we do offer that is different from Google and Bing is that we show you links for sites that are not your own, we add metrics about the trust and authority of the page, etc.

The Mozscape index, as brilliant as it is, can in no way compete with the size of the index that Google can handle.
As a result, your WMT report should always have a bigger amount of pages, links etc crawled. It's just bigger.

Either those 'issues' might be the cause. For example incorrect canonicalization that is picked up differently by Google and the SEOmoz bot Roger. Another option could be that Google tries really hard to index each and every page of the web, while Roger has a slightly more restrictive way of crawling the web by only crawling pages above a certain level of authority / only a certain amount of clicks from the homepage etc.

SiteName Attribute Showing in Different Language in SERP
We are currently experiencing issues with our subdomain SiteName. Our parent company root domain is a Japanese language site, but we have an English subdomain that is for the United States primarily, and nearly rest of world for organic traffic. Our issue is that we have followed the guidelines here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names There was a large post on here with many responses including Googlers with issues others were having, but it has since been removed. Here is the code in place on our homepage: <script

"alternateName": ["Mescius, inc.", "developer.mescius.com"],
"url": "https://developer.mescius.com" }
</script> Unfortunately this is what is appearing in the SERP. It is using the Japanese equivalent of our parent company. Screenshot 2024-02-23 at 3.37.55 PM.png Even though the relationship between root and subdomain should not be causing this, it seems like something is impacting this incorrect SiteName, and it is impacting CTR for the subdomain. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?0 -

Hi, Can we validate a CDN like Max in Webmasters? We have images hosted in CDN and they dont get indexed in Google images. Its been a year now and no luck. Maxcdn says they have no issues at there end and images have ALT and they are original images with no copyright issues

Different steps on the funnel competing with each other on the SEPR
Two steps in the same funnel are both ranking and competing with each other on the SERP. So www.example.com/step1 and www.example.com/step2 are both ranking. What is the best way to deal with this? Thanks

Strange Webmaster Tools Crawl Report
Up until recently I had robots.txt blocking the indexing of my pdf files which are all manuals for products we sell. I changed this last week to allow indexing of those files and now my webmaster tools crawl report is listing all my pdfs as not founds. What is really strange is that Webmaster Tools is listing an incorrect link structure: "domain.com/file.pdf" instead of "domain.com/manuals/file.pdf" Why is google indexing these particular pages incorrectly? My robots.txt has nothing else in it besides a disallow for an entirely different folder on my server and my htaccess is not redirecting anything in regards to my manuals folder either. Even in the case of outside links present in the crawl report supposedly linking to this 404 file when I visit these 3rd party pages they have the correct link structure. Hope someone can help because right now my not founds are up in the 500s and that can't be good 🙂 Thanks is advance!

Webmaster tools crawl stats
Hi I have a clients site that was having aprox 30 - 50 pages crawled regularly since site launch up until end of Jan. On the 21st Jan the crawled pages dropped significantly from this average to about 11 - 20 pages per day. This also coincided with a massive rankings drop on the 22nd which i thought was something to do with panda although it later turned out the hosts had changed the DNS and exactly a week after fixing it the rankings returned so i think that was the cause not panda. However i note that the crawl rate still hasn't returned to what it was/previous average and is still following the new average of 10-20 pages per day rather than the 30-50 pages per day. Does anyone have any ideas why this is ? I have since added a site map but hasnt increased crawl rate since A bit of further info if it helps in any way is that In the indexed status section says 48 pages ever crawled with 37 pages indexed. There are 48 pages on the site. The site map section says 37 submitted with 35 indexed. I would have thought that since dynamic site map would submit all urls Any clarity re the above much appreciated ? Cheers Dan

Local SEO - ranking a page for two different cities
I have a site that ranks very well for {service}{cityA} but I want it to rank for {service}{cityB} too. My first thought is to create a separate landing page optimised for {service}{cityB}, but is there a better option? Have one page for {service} and try and get it to rank for {city A} and {cityB} by using different anchor text? Anything else?

Not sure to see the real value of SeoMoz!
Still one week left for my trial. I did not get the result I wanted to have on my ranking, I know it takes time and patience to get there. Even if I consider myself as tech savvy, I have the impression that even if you have the best tools to monitor what is going on that you still have to spend to much time to get better ranking. I would prefer to give the contract to someone else rather than spending time trying to figure out what is going on. I am in some sort of a catch22. I need to increase my ranking, I know my competitors have more backlinks then I can possibly reach ( we have 55 and they have around to 78000). I am wondering how they got all these backlinks in just 2 years. We've been in business much longer.. I could confirmed that my On-page SEO is very good, it's really on my backlinks that I have problems. I see already some of you saying that I have to create rich content, but for a B2B companiy, it's not as easy to generate the proper content and get the backlinks needed. Is there a very quick way to increase backlinks very quickly ?
