Google Places Images
-
Hi, i recently added a image to google places listing uploaded via the google places dashboard.
It was uploaded about 3-4 weeks ago.
The image is exactly 1024x1024 in size.
I'm not sure whether google is not displaying it because its too big, or because it takes a while for google to start showing images for places listing. I was reading it can take up to 6 weeks. I don't want to have to wait 6 weeks, then find out the reason why the picture wasn't uploaded was because it was too big.
Any suggestions on how i can find out which one is the case?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Linda,
I will definitely stop by your forum to read up on this. Sounds quite complicated, indeed. Thanks for the heads up!

"Ouch, that sounds like a tough bug! Thank you so much for popping back in. I appreciate hearing about what you're seeing."
Oh no, NOT a bug. A big change in how everything works. Sorry maybe should have explained more but assumed you knew. We've been talking a lot about it at the forum.
It's a change to the backend data pipeline and also what's allowed. Due to the myriad of problems I've posted about in detail, that dual claimed listings can cause, you aren't going to be able to just re-claim a listing that was already claimed.
So if owner can't remember password OR previous SEO claimed it, there are extra hoops to jump through and it's complicated to explain all the options and how it works because it's somewhat situation dependent. There are screenshots and support emails from consultants documenting all the issues at my place but I don't want to take this image discussion off-topic. PM or email me if you need the link. It's kind of a big deal.

Miriam, I'm gradually seeing more and more reports rolling in from users that have been upgraded, but I don't think anyone knows what % have been upgraded yet.
Also seeing significant uptick in users that can't reclaim a listing that was previously claimed and that's tied to the new dashboard update as well.

Hi Linda,
Do you have a sense, from talking to your clients, of what percentage of US users are seeing the new dashboard at this point? I haven't seen any recent stats and would be interested to hear your take on this.
-
Yes Miriam is right. With the old dashboard images are taking on average 6 weeks.
But the good news is with the NEW dashboard images update more quickly. Days instead of weeks. The new dashboard is rolling out to everyone now, so you should have it soon. (Which may not help your current image situation but will make future updates easier/faster.)
-
Hi Matt,
Unfortunately, yes, it can take weeks for images to go live these days. The only way to speed things up is to submit user generated images instead of doing it from your dashboard and I think this is an odd workaround. So, while you should be sure you're complying with the guidelines Tim linked to, you will have to wait it out. This is something Google will hopefully improve!

Hi Matt,
Had a little look into this for you and on the Google support site it states that images must infact be under 1024x1024. As its such a large image it maybe worth checking the file size as well. Check out the photo criteria here:
http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en-GB&answer=142916#photos
Perhaps try running the image at 1000x1000
Hope this helps
Tim

Image results Bing vs Google
I have a website with a number of images and I have optimized all of the images on both a file name and ALT text level, relevant to content on the page they are published on. I haven't created a separate image sitemap, but the strange thing is that Google has all of my images indexed and they can be found for the right keywords, but when I look in BING! images, there is no image indexed available at all ...

Google Places - Bulk Upload Solution
Hi we have a client who currently has over 50 stores in the country (Australia). Some of these stores already have a Google Plus Local Pages and manage them individually. Most of them have reviews, and images. The corporate office wants to place all these stores under one bulk account to bring consistency with the brand and it's image. Now this presents a issue. From our research we have 3 options: 1. Un-verify the listings in each of the accounts and once this has been done, claim them individually in the account you want to manage them under. 2. Delete the listings from Maps and then recreate them under the bulk feed in account. This will allow you to manage them with the rest of your listings more efficiently, however if the stores have any reviews these may be lost. 3. Create new listings and leave the other ones and these should get merged, the issue here is the data could be incorrect and it could cause some duplication. Our goal is to transfer the listings to a single bulk account without losing the - reviews, and images.Or avoiding new problems such as duplicate listing or the listing gets somehow deleted for weeks during the process, causing massive frustration with all the stakeholders involved. I think our best bet is (1) to get the stores to individually unverify their account. However this may risk the lost of reviews and images. Plus it will be highly unlikely that the store owners will follow through or like doing this, and would be a painful long communication process which may take 2+ months. Are they any suggestions on how to best approach this situation? Thanks, Matt Carter

Ranking Differences for Google+ Local vs. Places Listings
I'm seeing some odd behavior with Google+ Local and Google Places listings for clients. I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing it... Here's the situation: We've recently bought on 4 new clients that all have duplicate listing issues, and, weirdly, all have both places and a Google+ local created listings. For three of those four, the Google+ local listing is outranking the Places account for a brand name search (e.g. Dr. John Doe). Weirdly, in one instance, the Google+ local account that is outranking the Places page is named in a less accurate fashion. e.g searching for "Dr. John Doe" the rankings look like this... A) John Doe Plastic Surgery, P.C. - Dr. John Doe B) Dr. John Doe, MD Anyone else seeing this sort of behavior? How are you creating local listings for clients these days - via the places dashboard, or Google+ Local?

How do I get google to index review sites for Google Places?
Some of our competitors are ranking higher than we are in google places due to a larger variety of review sites. Google is picking up reviews for them on certain review sites such as yelp.com or projectwedding.com. We have a lot of reviews on those sites also, but google is not picking those reviews up for us. I checked and verified that the phone number and address is exactly correct and has the exact same formatting on all the sites, but google still hasn't picked up those reviews for us. I've waited a couple months now and still nothing. Is there anything I'm missing?
