Ideas for making a mini-content farm more valuable to end users
-
I run a mini-content farm so to speak - a nationwide computer repair business. We have screened professionals that are specific to one industry. I was wondering if the SEO community would like to offer ideas on how to make this type of site more interesting to end users. What are some things that could be integrated into the site that are 'location specific' that would be of interest to users. I'd like to be able to offer a list of certified, screen, professionals that is searchable by zip code and town. We are planning on showing the quality control rating, as well as current certifications, and a checkbox showing that they were background checked. Customer testimonials are also in the works. Any other ideas?

wow that's a great idea......getting professionals to answer questions prior to booking....

I have to follow the line of David and Sai: turn that site into an UGC driven one.
Brainstorming here:
Put professionals and potential clients in contact inside your site, using a meritocratic chart list, were the the highest evaluation is from the clients the highest is the ranking. Evaluation based over tips and tricks and actionable help to answers made by the "clients"

Make a social network or profile website where everyone has their own space where they can write (something like a personal blog). Now, ask people to write reviews, send customers and users of your services for any of these professionals a feedback form with the URL to their profile and tell them to rate and review these guys.
Keep a strict moderation policy and try extracting useful information and compile them in a wiki kind of a storyboard as a summary of discussions, or a composed real time bio.
That should keep search engines interested.

Allow users to review each person/company/service and give their thoughts?

Blog for content
Noob here so be gentle... We have a blog on our homepage that we're using for content/SEO purposes. Does this content rank as highly as it would if it were a simple HTML page as opposed to a blogspot or wordpress from our page? In other words, are we getting as much content cred in this way as we would if blogspot wasn't affiliated? http://greatmats.blogspot.com/

When Somebody Copies your content What should you do?
I wrote an article in 2011 A Brief History of Benjamin Moore Paint on my website ( I am a painting contractor). It is a content creators win; sited as an authoritative article on wikipedia. Benjamin Moore Paint company has copied my content on their own corporate website; a deep page. Is this hurting, helping, or neutral? bX1kFQg,639HqZE bX1kFQg,639HqZE#1

Why do other sites rank higher for our blog content?
Our site has always allowed other sites to RSS feed our content. Recently, we've noticed that searches for a title of our blog post will rank 2 sites that only publish said content, while our links are nowhere to be seen on the SERPs for Google. Is there any way I can fix this or prod Google to adjust it for us? Background: We were ranked highly in many long tail keywords, but lost many of them in June 2013. During this time going forward, we received no manual action.

How can we dynamically populate content on our website based on a visitor's web history?
Recently, I have tried looking into options that would allow us to dynamically populate content (specifically images to be used at CTAs on our blog in wordpress) to different users based on their web history on our website. We would want to be able to dynamically populate images based on the number of visits in the past 60 days and the inferred industry based on pages hit. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find anything as a standalone tool - I believe HubSpot may have something like this but it is rolled into their blogging platform. Does anyone know of one?

My Boss tells me personal narrative content isn't read online and bad for SEO, anyone else disagree? b/c I do!
I am in a constant debate that content 1st person or 3rd person doesn't make a difference in terms of SEO and what people on the web want to read. What do you all think? Does it make a difference?

How to Get Rid of Duplicate Content Captured on Article Lists
We have a ton of articles and blog posts on our site. Currently, we display summary lists of articles that contain the first paragraph of the article in the summary list. However, in my reports, this is coming back as duplicate content with the full article itself. How do I fix this? Ex: article main page- http://www.robots.com/articles/10 First article on that page- http://www.robots.com/articles/viewing/grippers-for-robots (which shows up as duplicate content with the main artilce page). With our blogs, we have the most recent 5 blogs (in the same summary format) listed on our main blog page. We then have categories that people can sort by. But again, this is causing us duplicate content because those pages show the first paragraph of the blogs related to that category. Ex: blog main page- http://www.robots.com/blog. First blog listed on that page- http://www.robots.com/blog/viewing/robots-and-automation-bringing-jobs-back-to-the-united-states (which then shows as duplicate content with the main blog page). And then you can also select categories to see related topics: http://www.robots.com/blog/category/buying-a-robot which is showing as duplicate content also. Help! How can I prevent this? Thanks! How Google judge about duplicate content?
With recent Search engines updates one thing is clear we cannot ignore content. Content marketing definitely going to be most important part of our SEO strategy. I have few doubts about content marketing (circulation of content over web) where I want suggestions of community members. There would be different thoughts so I would like to have as many as responses to know what majority thinks: When we are writing guest posts, does article needs to be unique with each and every blog we are writing or we can safely circulate one good piece of content to 10-15 blogs who are interested in our creative. We have written a good blog post for our own domain. Apart from social sharing should it be posted to other related blogs too or it should be unique to our domain only. Social sharing, mentions, like of blog matters in rankings?Seems yes they do but need to know what majority thinks. Finally what is the safe number to circulate your content over web.

Remove Scraped Content?
There is a site I work for that has content that, when you search in Google a snippet of text from, they are not the top result for. I believe what has happened is that they had written blogs and articles and added them to their site and article directories at the same time and the article directories got cached first. If we're not coming up first for our article, that means we are not believed to be the original author, correct? Should I remove all content from our site where this is happening, even though we actually did create these articles?
