Show wordpress "archive links" on blog?
-
I here conflicting reports on whether to show wordpress archive links on the blog or not. Some say it is important for viewers to see, others say it is not and creates way too many links. I think both have good points but for SEO purposes, I lean towards removing them.
What do Moz users think?

Much like Matthew, I feel that keeping the Archive links would depend on how else you're interlinking content for users and your personal preference. Odds are that your posts are tagged... so your users can find the older, related content that way. If you want a visual representation of how often you post to your site there's the Calendar widget and other similar plugins that will link to your older posts. You can have a date archive list of posts (but the longer you're around and posting, the more overwhelming that will get and add far too many links) or you can have a dropdown menu pointing to your date archives. Then, of course, there's a Search Bar... let users find what they want that way instead of offering up 4000 different ways to get to those archives. If you think your users will have a need for any of those and it adds to the user experience, then go right ahead with them. If they just clutter up you page and offer up little extra value, then there's no real need for them.
For SEO purposes the archives have little to no value, create duplicate content, and having all those links will just dilute link equity being passed. But its more important to consider its impact on ease of use for visitors. Ask yourself the following: Will this help visitors? Do we need 6 ways to get to the same thing? Is there a better way to show them the same information? Does it make my site more easily navigated or just clutter things up?

I personally choose not to use them, and I know others do as well. In some niches, information gets stale so quickly that linking people to your old content may be counter-productive.
If you do choose to have archives linked to from your site, you can choose to noindex them with the WordPress Yoast plugin.

Hi Charles,
I think this is definitely one of those areas where there really isn't a solid yes/no answer. My personal preference for archive links is to block those directories via robots.txt so that they do not get indexed. Archive pages can lead to duplicate content issues so blocking those for SEO purposes can be helpful. However, I would leave the links on the page for users so long as your visitors are using those pages. I'd recommend monitoring traffic to those pages. If none of your visitors are accessing those archive pages then I'd remove them completely from your site.
That is my two cents anyway. Hope that helps!
Matthew

Any idea why Google Search Console stopped showing "Internal Links" and "Links to your site"
Our default eCommerce property (https://www.pure-elegance.com) used to show several dozen External Links and several thousand Internal Links on Google Search Console. As of this Friday both those links are showing "No Data Available". I checked other related properties (https://pure-elegance.com, http:pure-elegance.com and http://www.pure-elegance.com) and all of them are showing the same. Our other statistics (like Search Analytics etc.) remain unchanged. Any idea what might have caused this and how to resolve this?

Does Disavowing Links Negate Anchor Text, or Just Negates Link Juice
I'm not so sure that disavowing links also discounts the anchor texts from those links. Because nofollow links absolutely still pass anchor text values. And disavowing links is supposed to be akin to nofollowing the links. I wonder because there's a potential client I'm working on an RFP for and they have tons of spammy directory links all using keyword rich anchor texts and they lost 98% of their traffic in Pengiun 1.0 and haven't recovered. I want to know what I'm getting into. And if I just disavow those links, I'm thinking that it won't help the anchor text ratio issues. Can anyone confirm?

Site appears with ".com" but not without it
Hi, When I search for my site www.docslinc.com as "docslinc.com" the results on the SERPS have the home page and the site map but not the other indexed pages. The other issue occurs when I search for the company name alone "docslinc", the homepage does not show up at all, and some of the other pages show up. I have looked all over the place and cannot find an answer. I have checked the onsite optimization and it all seems to be correct. Any suggestions would be amazing. Thanks, zulumanf

Content Marketing: Use of the words "guest post" in outreach email
Hello, I'm marketing a useful article in our niche, appealing to the humanitarian side of things and I always show I'm a reciprocator. Should my wording in my outreach email be: ...to write a guest post around this article: http://... Or should I just ask if they want help with content and go from there? In other words, should I always call it a guest post for maximum conversions? Thanks.

Link Research Tools - Detox Links
Hi, I was doing a little research on my link profile and came across a tool called "LinkRessearchTools.com". I bought a subscription and tried them out. Doing the report they advised a low risk but identified 78 Very High Risk to Deadly (are they venomous?) links, around 5% of total and advised removing them. They also advised of many suspicious and low risk links but these seem to be because they have no knowledge of them so default to a negative it seems. So before I do anything rash and start removing my Deadly links, I was wondering if anyone had a). used them and recommend them b). recommend detoxing removing the deadly links c). would there be any cases in which so called Deadly links being removed cause more problems than solve. Such as maintaining a normal looking profile as everyone would be likely to have bad links etc... (although my thinking may be out on that one...). What do you think? Adam

Where does "Pages Similar" link text come from?
When I type in a competitor name (in this case "buycostumes") Google shows several related websites in it's "Pages Similar to..." section at the bottom of the page: My question, can anyone tell me where the text comes from that Google uses as the link. Our competitors have nice branded links and our is just a keyword. I can find nothing on-page that Google is using so it must be coming from someplace off-page, but where?

Question about "launching to G" a new site with 500000 pages
Hey experts, how you doing? Hope everything is ok! I'm about to launch a new website, the code is almost done. Totally fresh new domain. The site will have like 500000 pages, fully internal optimized of course. I got my taticts to make G "travel" over my site to get things indexed. The problem is: to release it in "giant mode" or release it "thin" and increase the pages over the time? What do you recomend? Release the big G at once and let them find the 500k pages (do they think this can be a SPAM or something like that)? Or release like 1k/2k per day? Anybody know any good aproach to improve my chances of success here? Any word will be apreciated. Thanks!
