Links from other sites in our network
-
I work for a large publisher with many websites, and it's common for our biggest sites to link to smaller sites within the network. These links are follow, site-wide, anchor text-optimised footer links. I think it's obvious that these links are harmful to the smaller sites that are being linked to, but it's hard to convince others of that, particularly because the toolbar PR benefit is very obvious.
Do you think it would be better to:
a) Remove the links completely
b) Keep the links, but make them nofollow
c) Keep the links (as it's not harmful)
Thanks

As a matter of dealing with all the links uniformly, your best long-term choice is keep the links make them all nofollows.

This doesn't really answer my question but it doesn't look like I'm going to get any other responses.

I think it's obvious that these links are harmful to the smaller sites that are being linked to, but it's hard to convince others of that...
but I don't have much control over the sites that are linking out....
If this is your situation it will be difficult for you to help the company.
It seems that you are responsible for waging war but they will not allow you to pick up the sword.

Thanks. Good idea, but I don't have much control over the sites that are linking out. Removing the links or adding a nofollow is possible, but creating new pages is not.

I would make an internal page where you link to other company properties. This could be done on an "about us" page.
I might also have a small number of relevant links, in content, where it makes 100% sense to the visitor.
That is what I do on my sites. I don't have a lot of links between them. Where I do have links they are usually domain names for anchor text.

Google isn't recognizing links to my site. help
I recently changed my domain name and i see on moz that NOTHING is linking to my current domain (even though I have changed all of my links to go to my current domain name). My domain authority remains higher with my old domain name. I do have my old domain linking to my current site. Should I worry about this? How can i get google to recognize the link changes?

Are links from charities really better than 'normal' links.
Hi Guys. Just wondering about this idea that links from Charities are particularly good. I've heard people say that links from .org sites are particularly strong. But anyone can get a .org domain, it's just that charities tend to use them more often. Right? I just don't get the logic. Can anyone give more detail about this? Is it a myth? Is there quality info on this topic I can check out? We're working with several charities at the moment, and they all seem happy to blog and link to us...so I just wanted to know a little more. Isaac.

Should I ask sites that link to me to update links that redirect?
I have found some links to my site that go through a single 301 redirect to get to my site. Should I contact these websites to ask them to update the link, or is that not worth the time?

Guest blogging on a "network" of sites. Good or BAD?
Hi guys! We have the opportunity to guest blog on a network of sites. Basically, this is a syndicated network of sports blogs (around 200) that all link to each other. They own and operate a blog for each major sports franchise. They each average a DA around 60, but almost all of their link equity comes from blogs they own and operate.... My question is this, should we take the opportunity to create editorial content with links back to our site. This would not be paid side or footer links, but real content relevant to their blog and our industry. On a side note; All of these site have a very decent DA and show up well in Google... Thanks for any advice!!!

Are links from flash sites worth anything?
I'm building some links right now and spotted an opportunity with a voiceover artists that we used for a marketing video. He posted our testimonial on his site and I plan to ask him to provide a link back. Thing is -- his site is entirely composed of flash content. Does this matter at all? Will this link still count? Thanks!

Follow or Nofollow outbound links to resourceful, related site?
As I am going through and redeveloping a website, I am trying to add some external links to resourceful information regarding this page. Should I put a nofollow or follow attribute on these? I am only putting 1-5 links per page to associations and other organizations that would be beneficial to the visitor. I am worried about the number of outbound links causing me to get penalized. Ideas?
