Domainchange & Relaunch
-
Hi SEOMOZERS,
We are planning to do a relaunch (new content, new design) + a domainname change (because it contains a keyword). Some of my team members think it is best to do the domain change already on the old-version to see if there might be some problems. Whereas I think it would be best to implement the domainchange on the new version because otherwise it can be suspected we did the domainchange only for SEO purposes. What are you guys thinking?
Thanks
Gregor

Hi Steven, thanks for your fast answer!

Personally I would do a clean start on the new domain, and 301 or canonical the current pages. If you have a new version why even bother seeing if there are problems with it. One thing I have noticed is that when setting up a new domain, the first time Google Indexes a page it 'seems' to keep that page longer, so the older page would remain in the index when you have a new revised page. If you just go live with the new version, block the search engines with a robot.txt, check it, test it, check it again, then remove the block and forward you could be up and running faster, in my own experience.

Hi Mozers, is the AMP project is supposed to be an SEO factor on mobile platforms? Also, can it be used on ecommerce sites such as Magento or Shopify as well? Thanks!
It stands to reason that Google will favor early adopters of Accelerated Mobile Pages, but it seems heavily geared toward news publishers so far. What about regular Wordpress sites, or ecommerce sites like Shopify, should AMP be pursued on that type of CMS?

Badges & SEO
Hello, Moz Community! We're working on creating an affiliate badge for events that make our best-of list and we're wondering: if every event website embedded the badge (could be as many as 70), would having the same image hosting URL for each one raise concerns with Google? Thanks!

Same H1 & H2 Tags
Is it bad to have the same H1 & H2 tag on one page? I found a similar question here on the moz forum but it didn't exactly answer my question. And will adding "about" on the H2 help, or should we avoid duplicate tags completely? Here is a link to the page in question (which will repeat throughout this site.) Thanks in advance!

search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html
search.live.com/docs/submit.aspx Am i right in saying you should really only bother with this if the site a newbie ie no history no link heritage and the site is enering cyberspace for the forst time. And i wonder if for example you launched a new site made sure the xml site map was in place and it had a few inbound links anyway it would be indexed anyway. So is the practice of submitting your url to search engined relevant anymore? Any insights welcome 🙂2 -
Pros & Cons of deindexing a site prior to launch of a new site on the same domain.
If you were launching a new website to completely replace an older existing site on the same domain, would there be any value in temporarily deindexing the old site prior to launching the new site? Both have roughly 3000 pages, will launch on the same domain but have a completely new url structure and much better optimized for the web. Many high ranking pages will be redirected with 301 to the corresponding new page. I believe the hypothesis is this would eliminate a mix of old & new pages from sharing space in the serps and the crawlers are more likely to index more of the new site initially. I don't believe this is a great strategy, on the other hand I see some merit to the arguments for it.
