Ranking Factors
-
Hi,
Question from a newbie.
Several years ago, my company invented The Mosquito device which emits high frequency sound to disperse groups of troublesome kids. I guess you could say it went viral. The result was that we have always ranked at position 1 or 2 on Google and never really put any work in to it. It was automatic.
My question is, that over the years we have brought out other products which were not as significant etc. and have put a bit of effort in to rankings in the UK and done OK, however, no we are about to launch something that is going to generate a lot of interest in the security market, but not as much as mosquito.
We have therefore been putting some serious thought in to the name of this product and this is where i am stuck, i have only been learning SEO for a matter of months, just enough to know that i don't know enough, so here is my plea for guidance.
Our company is called Compound Security Systems www.compoundsecurity.co.uk and we make GSM and GPRS communicating security systems that are battery powered and wireless, for use in empty properties, construction sites, farms, etc.
Our new product is one of the above but with a visual verification (camera / video) system in it specifically for EXTERNAL use (there are 1 or 2 for internal use).
The only name we can come up with that is not already in use is 'CompoundVision". Now, going back to Mosquito, we ranked 1 or 2 even though there are millions of pages of content relating to Mosquitos. We have a similar situation with CompoundVision. Compound is part of our company name, the camera systems will also be used to secure compounds, but 'compound vision' is how insects eyes work and there is a huge amount of content out there.
I have run a keyword analysis in Moz.com Keyword analysis tool (see below) but i really do not understand how to draw a conclusion due to the mitigating factors above.
Any suggestions / wisdom would be most welcome.
Thanks
Si

Even with the right name, you may not be able to reproduce what you did with mosquito, due to algorithm changes pertaining to exact match keywords--that is, unless you happen to accidentally stumble on the perfect combo of name/keyword (I suppose that's what you're hoping for). Today however, if you're coming out with a hot new product, focus your SEO and social networking on the brand/name. While you may not be able to take advantage of the keyword helping the product achieve viral status, you can still take advantage of social media to build and capitalize on engagement around content you create for the product. Focus on brand awareness over keyword today.

Keyword Ranking Research Question
Hi Mozzers,This is probably a nooby question, but I was wondering how you guys end up deciding if a Keyword is too hard to rank for? Also vice versa, when do you decide that a keyword is too low volume to rank for so you try to rank for a harder keyword? Eg.

Deciding that ranking for "Dell Computers" is too hard and then deciding to rank for "Dell Small Business Computers" Post-question: Do indirectly rank for Dell Computers if you try to rank for Dell Small Business Computers? How can we stop an article ranking so highly?
We secured an article on national newspaper site for a client which now ranks number one for its own branded search term. Since we secured the article (over two years ago) the client has changed the direction of its business so the article is now no longer relevant and is actually causing a lot of trouble for the client. When people search for their business the article is telling readers one thing when their business actually does something else. How can we stop this article ranking so highly?

Importance of news headlines for their search rankings
Hi there, we're trying to determine how to best write headlines to make our articles more findable. We're a Theater content and ticketing site (theatermania.com) and we're about to publish an article describing outdoor Shakespeare in New York City. We've discussed a few headline options (we automatically use the headline as the page title, although we aren't married to this) below. Are any of these much more findable than the other? For example, are we shooting ourselves in the foot if we lead with "Fill your Summer...." in the first option? Hi everybody, I've been working on the subdomain http://fr.mt.com since a few month and on the last crawl on the keyword "accessoire de mesure" i had a big drop from rank 3 to not in top 50 and I cant figure why. Here is the page : http://fr.mt.com/fr/fr/home/products/Laboratory_Analytics_Browse/Meter_family_page/Meter_Accessor.html - PA : 30 DA : 71 I did an on page report to get a grade and i got... A on this keyword. I know this page is not perfect (lack of content) but in my opinion it still relevant on this keyword. Do you have any idea of what happened ? Thanks in advance for your answers

Manual Rankings or Automated? Plus and Minus?
Hi, I'm new to SEOMoz and one of the reasons I joined is for the automated keyword lookup feature. I have a few questions I'm hoping people here can sort out for me: Is SEOMoz is "danger" of losing the ranking tool as happened to Raven Tools? I've been doing manual keyword lookups for a very long time. With the # of KW (in multiple search engines) that I now need to track, a tool like SEOMoz seems invaluable. Now I appreciate that there are differences in the exact rankings, but I've noticed that while the SEOMoz google results are very close to my manual lookups (in Chrome Incognito mode), the Bing results are pretty far off. Is this a function of Bing? Or is this the nature of the beast? I'd like to save time by automating the lookups (and of course all of the other features in the rank tool), but I want to make sure I'm accurate. Are many people out there using an automated tool only? Thank you!
