How do I find a great SEO Mentor?
-
I've had good experiences growing with Mentors. I don't mind paying the high rates as it has always left me with a good return.
What I'd be looking for:
- Someone to give me direction
- Someone to correct and provide advice on a strategy that I have come up with
- Someone to provide answers when I'm stuck
- Someone that I can grow with
It would help if the mentor has good knowledge of and can help with how social media, blog writing, email marketing all ties in to a good SEO campaign. Ultimately we want to be able to help our clients reach more people any way possible.
With this I feel I can take the next step and start offering these services in a way that works for our business and more importantly allows us to meet the needs of our clients.
But finding an SEO mentor is proving harder than I thought. So does anyone have any tips on where to find a mentor? Who is actually doing it now and would be a good option?
And what would the rates be? I was thinking in the $100-150 range. Is this reasonable for an SEO mentor?
Any help here will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel. -

Hi Daniel,
You're welcome to PM me with your questions.

Hi Daniel,
My advice here would be to learn the basics through online resources. Subscribe to things like DistilledU, which is a great online resource and can take you through all of the basic steps in barely any time at all. Make sure that you follow all the major blogs and are always dedicating some time to reading up on SEO related stuff.
The next stage can then be looking for a mentor. Personally, I would suggest reaching out to well-known industry SEOs to see if they would be interested in doing it; you will often find that having a mentor that is currently working within the industry will give you the most value.
I personally do this kind of thing and have had most of the people that I mentor simply get in touch with me after reading some of my content. The way I charge is through an hourly rate for my time, hence why I suggested learning a lot of the basics through online resources (because it will be a lot more cost effective). Alongside this, you need to decide on what it is you want to get from the mentor - do you want to get an overall view of SEO or would you like to focus on a specific area? for example, link building, technical SEO, local SEO, etc.
If you want some more info on how I can help then drop me a private message through Moz, or just email me (my email is visible in my profile). Bare in mind that I'm based in the UK though
Hope this helps!
Matt

What would you expect an SEO agency to deliver in 6 months?
Hi All, Looking for some views/opinions on this one, my question is "What would you expect an SEO agency to have delivered for a single client over a 6 month period with a budget of £12k?" I appreciate that its fairly open ended and very subjective not knowing the site/circumstances but is there a general consensus or minimum you'd expect to have seen delivered for example x number of backlinks, x number pieces of content created, technical improvements made etc etc. Any steer, views or opinions would be greatly appreciated. What are the most effective SEO methods for online communities and forums?
My company has a global online community of over 350,000+ members. We allow users to submit articles revolving around the scrum and agile framework. Sometimes the submissions become overwhelming and I am curious if there is anyone out there who may have experience with this same scenario. I don't want to place meta data on every single article that comes in, because I don't have the resources nor time to optimize each and every article. Does anyone have techniques or suggestions in regards to either leaving the meta data untouched or customizing each individual piece? Any thoughts or ideas will be extremely helpful. Thanks

Listing multiple locations on Facebook for local business and top platforms for local SEO
What is the easiest way to register multiple locations for a business to Facebook local? I'm sure we've all had the challenge of multiple local business listings for a client. The set up is just busy work, but the verification can be an issue with some busier or less organized locations. I'm interested to see if anyone has a more eloquent solution to achieve this. I also have a second question as far as local listings go - how would you rank the most influential local listing platforms? Thanks, Bill

Best X-Cart SEO Solutions / Modules?
We recently acquired an e-commerce client that uses X-Cart. We have no previous experience with this platform and it's hard to find any good / helpful info regarding SEO functionality online. Right now I need to figure out how to handle mass redirects of 404 errors, friendlier URLs, resolving duplicate content, XML sitemap generation, robots.txt generation. The functionality built into the platform so far is terrible and all of the modules are pricey. Any recommendations, general or specific, would be insanely helpful if anybody out there has experience with this particular platform. Thanks!

Recently on Q&A, Petra weighed in with a link tool site that had completely missed my radar. My problem is lack of time. I don't have enough of it to readthe2 dozen+ SEO blogscurrently in my RSS feed I would like to tobe able to read to stay current. So I end up only reading at the moz.
