Nesting <a>tag for rel="nofollow"</a>
-
I just wanted to quickly run this past someone. I have some footer links I want set to nofollow:
<map <span="" class="webkit-html-tag">name</map>="Map"><area <span="" class="webkit-html-tag">shape="rect" coords="10,39,73,101" href="URL" target="_blank" alt="some text">
should this be
<map <span class="webkit-html-tag">name</map <span>="Map"><area <span class="webkit-html-tag">shape</area <span>="rect" coords="10,39,73,101 <a <span class="webkit-html-tag">href="URL" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" alt="some text"></a <span>
Want to check before I advise. If this is not the way how can I fix?
-
that's great thanks. NoFollow in Chrome is not picking up.
-
That is correct, but you can also assign it also to an AREA tag like mentioned in the W3 documentation here: http://www.w3.org/wiki/HTML/Elements/area
-
but the rel attribute "nofollow" is assigned to an 'a' element?
-
Hi Michael,
Sorry to say but your option is incorrect. It should be: <map name="Map"><area shape="rect" coords="10,39,73,101" href="URL" target="_blank" alt="some text" rel="nofollow"> You can't next links in a HTML element.</map>

What does it mean that "too many links" show up in my report - but I'm not seeing them?
I've noticed that on the crawl report for my site, www.imageworkscreative.com, "too many links" is showing up as a chronic problem. Reviewing the pages cited as having this issue, I don't see more than 100 links. I've read that sometimes, websites are unintentionally cloaking their links, and I am concerned that this is what might be happening on my site. Some example pages from my crawl report are: http://www.imageworkscreative.com/blog/, http://www.imageworkscreative.com/blog/10-steps-seo-and-sem-success/index.html, and http://www.imageworkscreative.com/blog/business-objectives-vs-user-experience/index.html. Am I having a cloaking issue or is something else going on here? Any insight is appreciated!

How Important is Title Tag while viewing in browser's tab
Hi SEOmozer,I have a dumb/silly question. Ok, I know Title tags are important for SEO and users and it shows up in the SERP and all that. My question is that, using a weird CMS, I have the title tag implemented and it appear in the SERP the way I want it. However, the problem is that when I hover over the tab on the browser, it doesn't appear the same way it is in the SERP. Does that really matter that it appears differently? I checked the HTMl and this what I got<title>Example Keywordtitle><meta name="layout" content="main"/><meta name="description" content="Keyword 1 | Keyword 2 | Company Name"/>So whats within the "content" is showing in the SERP and what is in "title" tag is showing in the browser tab. Shouldn't they be the same?

Does it do harm if you add a rel="canonical" tag on a page that doesn't need it?
If a page is clearly unique and there is obviously no canonical tag needed, does it hurt anything if one has been added?

Legitimate hidden text and H1s are "OK?" Show me the data!
I'm trying to promote the SEO perspective during a site redesign so I'm researching the impact of design requests: Embedding text in graphic headers and applying to the graphics to get the SEO value Reducing view-able text on a page for design reasons and by using JavaScript to hide text in accordions or tabs. SEOmoz uses these techniques on their ranking report and most of what I read in teh forums says it is OK to hide text if your motives are pure and the text displays in a text-only browser. But I do SEO, not SEOK. I want to optimize, not just avoid penalties. And I try to make decisions based on data, not just anecdotes. Are there any studies out there on the effects these hidden-text topics? How much difference DOES it make to have the text exposed? Since there is potential for spam with these techniques, why would Google give the same rank to pages with and without hidden text? When I'm balancing UX and SEO, I want to clearly define the trade-off. What have you done when faced with this dilemma?
