Best URL Structure For Products That Are The Same
-
I know that the url structure is very important for seo preferably using the keyword. But is it okay to have the same url with the product number at the end ? Each of our products have a name with a product number. Or will this cause to many similar urls? or if the folder is the name of the product that needs to be optimized, can the page just be called the product number?
Example:
Say you have a 20 different product lines and they are all catagorized in the appropriate folders, and need to be optimized for the actual product name.
XXX (folder name )
- WWW-PR-123
- WWW-PR-1234
- WWW-PR-12345
- WWW-PR-123456
what would be the best url structure? Can they have the same begining? The product name?
something like:
or
-
by going with either of these (/xxx/pr-123.php vs /xxx/www-pr-123.php) you are signaling to the search engines that "xxx" is the common factor and each page within that "virtual" folder would then be seen as a sub-set. So the question then is whether "www-pr-123.php" or "pr-123.php" is more appropriate for SEO purposes.
I'd say that it all depends on the importance of the "www" portion. If "www" is in fact a relevant word/phrase, either from a general search value or from a brand identity value, then it's best practices to include them in the URL. If they're neither valued for search by people who are not familiar with your specific products, or alternately, not important to people looking up your products who already know them, you can leave them out.
Another take on this would be - what's the chances someone would search for the products by part number without the www portion? And what's the chances of someone searching for the products by the "www" portion only?
While it's not necessarily critical to include every single aspect of a part's known naming convention in the URL (if you have optimized page Titles, h1, content, image names, etc), I'm guessing you want to cover the bases in how people search based on different situations, so in that case, don't leave them out.
As far as the concept of having too many URLs saturated with any aspect of category, product name or whatever, there's no need to be concerned with that if they're valid products grouped properly. It's more important to provide unique quality content on every single page. And if you're talking about many very similar products, that itself should be your biggest worry.
Just having the same descriptions repeated over and over page to page, with just a single word or part number being the difference is what would be the problem. Coming up with 100 or 150 or 200 words that are uniquely written for every product - now that's the bigger goal and far outweighs the URL repetition.
Then there's the fact that if you have all those repeated URLs, you're actually telling search engines "we've got a lot of relevant products for that topical focus". But only if you get those unique descriptions done right.

Making Shopify URL's Simpler - Losing the words 'collection', 'product' and 'page' in a Shopify store URL. Any advice?
Hi Mozers! I have a Shopify store (of which there are many advantages) however one big SEO disadvantage, is that my URL structures contravene all Moz advice on dynamic URL structure and whats more I am reminded about this every week when I have a Moz site crawl and I have a batch of URL's that are longe than the 75 characters. A Shopify URL will run www.domain name.com/collections/collection-name/product/product-name. According to advice a it should be www.domain name.com/collection-name/product-name - Don't even get started on sub-collections! I sell portfolio books, album etc and keepsake memory boxes (so long keywords) AND, I have a long(ish) business name. So, For user experience and keyword length, do I just ignore trying to achieve a dynamic URL under 75 characters? When I have asked Shopify, the say their URL's are an integral part of the "Ruby on Rails" system, so nothing can be done Or can it ??? I can't be the only Moz member with this issue can I ??

Hi there !-) I´m helping a friend who has a e-commerce about nail polish in Brazil. I´m a little in doubt about the urls and folder structure. Two questions: 1. There are 10 products per category and 50 categories. Should I put them all in the root folder or creat 2 major categories ( 25 sub-categories each one)? 2. Whats the better product page url ( the store has around 500) nailpolish.com/IMPORT/BRAND/NAME-OF-THE-PRODUCT OR nailpolish.com/COMPLETE-NAME-OF-THE-PRODUCT Whats the best recomandation?

Best SEO extension or plugin for on-page optimization
I was wondering what you guys might recommend for a browser extension or plugin that would help developers optimize each page for specific keywords. I'm looking for a tool that will give me a grade on how well it's optimized with a recommendation checklist. I would use SEOMoz's onpage analysis tool but it doesn't have access to my private development environment (hence the need for a plugin.) Recommendations? Thanks!

Change in link structure due to Joomla
Hi, I have been using Joomla 1.5 until recently and the link structure would be something like - http://www.guru99.com/software-testing.html Now with Joomla 1.7 , ".html " automatically stripped and the URL become "http://www.guru99.com/software-testing" My site is due upgrade but ".html" part is a concern. Once I upgrade , Can I re-direct all ".hmtl" url like http://www.guru99.com/software-testing.html to non ".html" url like "http://www.guru99.com/software-testing" Will this ensure all the link juice is passed ? I have more than 350 URL in my site ... Please guide ... Cheers Krishna PS = the link http://www.guru99.com/software-testing will not work since the site is yet to be upgraded

Best title tag structure?
Hi, In the below example, which one do you think would work best if any. The website is called greatshoes.co.uk (fictitious) The category is 'work shoes' and a page under this cat is lets say 'Size 9 work shoes' I tend to build my title tags like this: size 9 work shoes, cheap size 9 work shoes | greatshoes.co.uk BUT I have read on here it should be more like this: size 9 work shoes < work shoes | greatshoes.co.uk Does anyone think it would make a difference when targeting for the term 'size 9 work shoes' which title tag I use. Cheers

Page title structure?
From an SEO and user perspective what structure do you recommend for page titles. For example (given that they shouldn't ideally be more than 70 characters) :- Keywords (maybe two or three) | Company Name | more keywords I understood the best place for the company name was about second place. Is this now the considered view taking into consideration 'branding' which has been flagged up as the way forward. Keywords are separated by the vertical bar | - any thoughts? For 'house keeping' pages such as Privacy Policy - should this be optmised or simply stated as 'privacy policy' Thanks
