Is the server or host a metric for SERPs? Amazon Webstore a plus?
-
Hello Friends,
I have been pondering a question that I bet Ben or some of the other clever folks this list will know.
Do the search engines give a preference to sites hosted and served from larger companies like Amazon?
With an Amazom Webstore, it would have our domain name but Amazon would supply much of the structure and back end like card processing and check out.
Could having amazon as the server be an indicator of better results in the SERPS similar to having a stronger Domain Authority?
Are there any draw backs for optimization when using an Amazon Webstore?
Thank you.

Ditto - I sell on Amazon too, but use my own site to sell as well. Amazon opens up a whole new market that I wouldn't otherwise have, so I deal with their fees, but you have to have multiple distribution points.
Going back to what i said earlier. Be sure you read all of the terms and conditions of using their Webstore. I love Amazon, but they have tricky lawyers just like anyone else

I do not believe that you will receive any benefit from using an Amazon Webstore. However, if you start listing items on Amazon.com you will have a great opportunity to get search engine traffic from the strength of the Amazon domain. I used to sell a lot via Amazon - but their high fees drove me to selling on my own site. It's really hard to beat Amazon.com in the SERPs.

I highly doubt search engines offer any kind of favoritism based on your host. If so, it would be an extremely small factor.
Where you would see an indirect benefit is with your user experience. Using a trusted, tried, and true checkout provider with a proven excellent level of user experience like Amazon will have inherent SEO benefits such as returning visitors, higher engagement, cross selling with your other items, higher revenue, etc.
Since you're using it on your domain you're not going to inherit any of their domain authority.
The drawbacks in my eyes would be the lack of complete customization and ownership that you have over the webstore. It's your stuff, but it's Amazon's service. You are bound by their rules. I'm not familiar enough with the platform to know if they have any SEO functionality built into the webstore such as custom URL rewriting and canonicalization tools, but I would imagine you are going to be limited to doing some of this type of advanced SEO stuff if you cannot access the web controls.
If anyone knows a definitive answer to this please chime in.

Will HTTPS Effect SERPS Depending on Different Page Content?
I know that HTTPS can have a positive influence on SERPS. Does anyone have any thoughts or evidence of this effect being different depending on the page content? For example, I would think that for e-commerce sites HTPS is a must, and I guess the change in rankings would be more significant. But what about other situations, AMP pages for example? Of if you run Adsense, or Affiliate links? Or if your page contains a form?

What are the downsides and/or challenges to putting page paths (www.example.com/pagepath) on a different server?
Hi, Our company is organized into three different segments and our development team recently needed to switch a portion of the business to subdomain because they wanted to move to a different server platform. We are now seeing the impact of moving this segment of the business to a subdomain on the main domain. SEO is hurting and our MOZ score has dropped significantly. One fix they are debating is moving everything back to one domain, but place segments of the business on different page paths and hosting specific paths on different servers. I.e. the main domain could be www.example.com hosted in one location and then www.example.com/segment1 would be hosted on a different server. They are hoping to accomplish this using some sort of proxy/caching redirection solution. The goal of this change would be to recapture our domain strength. Is this something that is a good option or no? If not, what are the challenges and issues you see arising from doing something like that as I don't know of any other site set up like this. Thanks in advance.

How much does on-site duplicated content affect SERPs?
Hi, We've recently gotten into Moz, with our E-commerce websites, and discovered that it's crawler takes note of about 2500 pages which it thinks are the same (duplicated). We've now begun to completely rewrite every description of every product (including Meta Title/Description) so that this number may be reduced. Since this is the biggest issue Moz spots I'm wondering what the effect of fixing it will be on our position in the SERP (mainly Google). Does anybody have some stories or experience about this topic? Thanks in Advance! 🙂 Alexander

New more "helpful" internal linking causing SERP & traffic drop?
Still dealing with the weird traffic drop on my website. I have removed a bunch of old links from a defunct blog, 301 thin pages, added text to remaining pages. I'm still stumped. So awhile ago I freshened up my website and thought I was "helping people" by making sure they could CONTACT the studio more easily... I added more links to the "contact page" I thought this would help conversions...This changed the number of links to my entire site....Would this be the problem with my ranking/traffic drop? http://bayareaboudoir.com/babinternal1.pdf

Intuit Website Hosting - Stand-Alone Webite?
Hi all! My name is Yehuda and I'm new to this community. There's an issue i'm having trouble with: My site is hosted by Intuit Websites, and I use their Website Builder. Though it has its own domain name, it seems my "site" may just be a subdomain of their intuitwebsites.com website. I'm trying to figure out if my site is actually a stand-alone website, and what ramifications/issues there be in terms of bot crawling & SEO. Does anyone have a thought on this?

Visits to Site and Serps?
Do google and bing factor in how many people visit your site per month to determine your serps rankings? If so, does it matter if they visit your site by searching a keyword phrase or by typing in the name in the search bar? My instinct tells me that if the search engine sees 1000 hits per month for a site by keyword phrase and that is high for the industry then they might rank that site higher in the serps. I was wondering if the same would be true if the site is designed and coded properly for a keyword phrase but receives the same 1000 hits per month from visitors typing in the sites name in the search field rather than the search phrase, would that then translate to higher rankings for the keyword phrase? Thanks for your help.

How to set up Wordpress on our Germany Host?
Correct me if I am wrong, but for SEO purposes, it is best to host your website in the correct country? I set up hosting in Germany for our new website, but now I am concerned on how to set up our wordpress website through our german host and setting up the database. Or would I be safe to host it in the US? Can I set it all up in English and then translate it to German and then upload it that way?
